 Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate company headquartered in the Bombay House in Mumbai, India.

 In terms of market capitalization and revenues, Tata Group is the largest private corporate group in India.  It has interests in communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemicals.

 The Tata Group has operations in more than 80 countries across six continents and its companies export products and services to 80 nations employing 350,000 people.  The Tata Group comprises 114 companies and subsidiaries in eight business sectors, 27 of which are publicly listed. . TATA Group's 114 companies are held by its main company Tata Sons and the main owner of Tata Sons are various charitable organizations developed and run by Tata Group  65.8% of the ownership of Tata Group is held in charitable trusts.  Companies which form a major part of the group include Tata Steel (including Tata Steel Europe), Tata Motors (including Jaguar and Land Rover), Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Technologies, Tata Tea (including Tetley), Tata Chemicals, Titan Industries, Tata Power, Tata Communications, Tata Sons, Tata Teleservices and the Taj Hotels.  The group takes the name of its founder, Jamsedji Tata. The current chairman of the Tata group is Ratan Tata, who took over from J. R. D. Tata in 1991 and is one of the major international business figures in the age of globality.

 In June 2011, based on market value Tata Group has become the country's wealthiest group with $98.7 billion.

 According to its financial report 2011, the largest Indian steelmaker Tata Group increased its net profit by 72 percent year on year in the first quarter of the current year to $937 million, stating that rising steel prices contributed to its good performance.

 Tata gets more than 2/3 of its revenue from outside India.

 The total revenue of Tata companies, taken together, was $67.4 billion in 2009-10, with Compounded annual growth rate of 11.6% also With 57 per cent of this coming from business outside India.

 The total sales revenue of the group amounted to $7.59 billion in 2010, rising by 23 percent year on year.

 Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 499,492 vehicles, a growth of 31 per cent over 381,003 vehicles sold last year.

The company's sales from exports at 4,203 vehicles in November 2010 registered a growth of five per cent compared to 3,994 vehicles in November last year.

 The international brand consultancy Brand Finance has ranked the $68billion conglomerate, Tata Group, as 50th most valuable brand in the world.

 Tata Group's brand value has soared to $15.08 billion for the 2010 year compared to $11.2 billion last year in 2010.

 TCS alone accounts for more than half of the group's total market value with a market capitalisation of $52 billion (Rs. 232,194 crore).

 There are 28 publicly listed Tata enterprises and they have a combined market capitalisation of about $101.96 billion (as on June 30, 2011), and a shareholder base of 3.5 million

 The Tata Group has donated $50 million to the prestigious Harvard Business School (HBS) to build an academic and a residential building on the institutes campus in Boston, Massachusetts.

COMPETITIVE POSITION
 Ratan Tatas Tata Group is the most trustworthy business house in India.This was found in a poll conducted among domestic investors.  Two Indian corporate giants, Tata Group and Reliance Industries, have made to a new list of world's 50 most innovative companies.  Between them, Tata Group is better placed as the world's 17th most innovative compared to Mukesh Ambani-led RIL's 33rd position globally in this league.  The top Tata companies which have added market wealth over the past one year includes the name of TCS , Tata Motors , Tata Steel , Titan, Tata Coffee , Tata Chemicals and Rallis.

 The latest market valuation places the Tata Group at Rs 4,40,000 crore.  The Nano car is one example, as is the Eka supercomputer (developed by another Tata company), which in 2008 was ranked the worlds fourth fastest.
