RC Holy Spirit members and prospective members were treated to an interesting, well-prepared presentation by AGD Mar Reyes on the practical experience & practices in dealing with foreign sister clubs. PP Mar expounded on the benefits that could be derived from sister club relations. He also shared experiences on how visits by foreign Rotarians could be made memorable for the local club. From AGD Mars insightful presentation, RCHS will now be better prepared for the forthcoming visit of officers of our prospective sister club, RC Seoul Onnuri in August. Among the 20 attendees were club friends PDG Danny Fausto and AG Rencie Padernal.

Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Message from Dodgie Osabel, RC Holy Spirit President 2010-11

Rotary Year 2010-11 has been another challenging year for our young Club. As my term ends, I wish to thank our members for keeping the flame of RCHS alive. Join me in saluting the following Rotarians for their significant contributions:

Ric and Marcia Salvador for selfless commitment and dedication, for keeping The Dove Newsletter alive, for ably managing our funds, for preparing our Club meetings, for firing up and motivating our Interactors and Rotaractors, and for major major sacrifices for the Club; Peth Rivera for modeling attendance, joyful presence, and readiness to help at all times; Dr. Rogelio Belleza for incredible stamina in doing more than 60 medical missions a year, and for rendering free medical consultations for our Parishioners and community members; while also serving as Acting President of the Don Antonio Heights Homeowners Association; Dr. Eui Jung Bong for numerous medical missions for the poor in our own barangay, in Payatas, and outside Metro-Manila; for portraying a good image of Koreans in the Philippines; Drs. Marylene Martinez and Jong Myeong Kim for rendering free dental services in all our medical missions; Linda Palattao for exemplifying outstanding and dedicated leadership, rendering humanitarian service with her own programs for the poor in our community and in Payatas; Fernando Delgra, Jr. for dedication and commitment to the Alternative Learning System, which enables the out-of-school youth to finish high school and pursue work or higher learning; Ped Condeno for willingness to assume the mantle of leadership, to sustain the Clubs programs and projects; Honorary Member Joe and wife Naty del Rosario for helping promote teamwork in the Club; and PDG Danny Fausto and AG Rencie Padernal for their ever-ready support in the Clubs times of need.

We also thank CP Nides Respicio and Rotarians David Kim, Ed Valbuena, Aida Lorenzo, Lowell Custodio, Kapitana Neneng Valmocina, Joy Flores, Winnie Leonor, Thelma Marcelo, Kent Valderrama, and Twinkie Kim. Thanks also to our partners and frequent hosts, including the DAHHA, the Parish and our Barangay. Let us continue to give of ourselves, to give a good name to Rotary and to RCHS in our own community, and to make a difference especially in the lives of our poor brothers and sisters. Each one is called to love and to give. And someday when we face the end, as the poet Michael Josephson wrote, Our days will be measured not by what we bought, but by what we built; not by what we got, but what we gave. What will matter is not what we learned, but what we taught. What will matter is every act of integrity,

Volunteers led by PP Dr Roger continue to reach within and embrace humanity as they spread health & wellness among poor families in Bgy Kaligayahan, Novaliches Fairview

RC Holy Spirit History in Progress

The Rotary Club of Holy Spirit was chartered by Rotary International on June 29, 2005 with 20 charter members. The then new club encountered serious organizational and leadership challenges to the point that only the Charter president was left as active member. Governor Danny Fausto and a number of district officers refused to let the club fade away. They made arrangements with clubs like RCSFDM to lend support to RC Holy Spirit. From 2008 Cong. Dodgie Osabel, Linda Palattao, PP Doc Roger Belleza, Ped Condeno and most of the current officers & members joined to help reinvigorate the club. At the end of RY 2009-2010, RC Holy Spirit was recognized by Governor Dulce dB. Coyukiat as one of the 15 most outstanding clubs among 97 clubs in District 3780. Last May 2011 RC Holy Spirit was selected by Rotary International to participate, with 200 other clubs of the worlds 33,000 Rotary clubs, in the innovative Associate Member Pilot Program for RY 2011-12 to 2013-14.. October 23. In response to the prevalence of diagnosed cases of diabetes in the community, RC Holy Spirit and the Don Antonio Heights Homeowners Association formed a Diabetics Club with sponsorship and support of Natrapharma Inc. Diabetes is a growing health problem and diabetics or diabetic-prone individuals cannot afford to ignore the dangers associated with the disease and put their lives at risk. The Diabetics Club has been envisioned by PP Dr Roger Belleza, Chair of Health & Wellness, to provide a forum where those already afflicted, and those who are at risk, could discuss and learn how to properly manage the disease. November 20. The 2nd free fasting-blood screening project last Nov 20th served 86 patients of which 33 persons were identified to be afflicted with diabetes. The next steps for these patients are being finalized by PP Dr Roger Belleza and partners DAHHA, Natrapharm and RCHS. Jan 15RCHS and Rotaract Club plant trees to arrest serious soil erosion in Antipolo City
Last Saturday, January 15, was both a fulfilling and fun-filled day for RCHS and its newly-organized partner, the Rotaract Club of Holy Spirit. With some 50 seedlings of fire tree, caballero, guijo, and other species with them, the two groups proceeded to Barangay Calawis at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountain range in Antipolo to plant trees in an area that has been experiencing soil erosion. It was the first service activity of the Rotaractors led by President James Lorenzo. RCHS is committed to fight global warming by planting more trees. In the near future, as Pres Dodgie says, with District support, we hope to start reforesting the badly eroded mountains of the Marikina watershed.

Feb 12RC Holy Spirit and partners bring free healthcare services to 1,600 members of the local community
The Gamot Para sa Kapwa medical/dental/diagnostic mission held at the Don Antonio Heights covered court and elderly center last February 12, 2011 drew a large crowd mostly from depressed areas within Barangay Holy Spirit. The health mission was a partnership project of RCHS with the SM Foundation as principal sponsor, the Don Antonio Heights Homeowners Association (DAHHA), Greater Don Antonio Heights Senior Citizens Association, and the St Benedicts Parish Pastoral Council (SBPPC). PP Dr Roger Belleza, Chair of RCHS Health & Wellness, spearheaded this project. He organized some 25 medical practitioners who provided free consultation services to 979 patients. Dr Roger stood as exemplar of Rotarys international motto Service Above Self. This day, although still tired from a medical mission the previous day, Dr Roger stayed on until the last patient had been served. RCHS Rotarians Dr Marlene Martinez and Dr Jong Myeong Kim and a volunteer SMF dentist provided tooth extraction and related services. PE Dr Terry Amado and IPP Dr Tessie Estrellado of our sister club, RC Marikina North of District 3800, came to share their time and expertise as well. Rtn Peth Rivera assisted the dentists while Rotaractor Kevin Laragan and SBPPC volunteers served as dental aides. A total of 254 dental patients were served. Rtn Dr Myeong brought three portable dental chairs and a complete array of dental tools and implements. It was an inspiring sight to see Dr Myeong, a Korean like Rtns Dr Bong and David Kim, providing free dental service to many patients, assisted by his wife and young relatives. Rtn Dr Eui Bong Jung administered acupuncture to 20 patients, some of whom were initially scared to be needlepricked, but the handsome, gentle acupuncturist put his patients at ease in no time.

Interact Club of Holy Spirit President-elect Harold Kim Maggay and Secretary Gretchen Berguera attended the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Training at the Phillips Sanctuary in Antipolo City last January 28-30, 2011. It was hosted by RC Paraiso QC and was the 23rd training seminar for the youth. Aside from meeting new friends from different Interact clubs, our Interactors were given valuable insights on how to be better persons and leaders and in organizing effective service projects. On the 2nd day, the participants planted trees as a sign of their commitment to care for the environment. Before the youngsters departed the camp site, Global President Carmen Chuas parting words were: The ones that dont have the new generation programs are missing a part of the great adventure of Rotary. To Harold and Gretchen, this great experience will linger for a lifetime and they intend to impart whatever they learned during the seminar to other young people.

Club Service & Development Activities

To recruit & retain members, Club needs enhanced image, relevant projects, member participation & fellowship PP Francis Rivera Sept 15 To be an effective leader in Rotary, one should imbed the philosophy of servant leadership in his mindset - PDG Danny Sept 22

Last Sept 15, PP Atty Francis Rivera, District 3780 Chair of the Membership Development Committee, shared valuable ideas on the recruitment and retention of members. He said that it is important to enhance the image of the club to attract prospective members. Service projects must be carefully planned and implemented where members can actively participate and find relevance. Members should be made to experience not only the opportunity to serve but, more importantly, the chance to fellowship with one another. PP Francis also said that RIs priority is the recruitment of women and young people into Rotary service. Lastly, PP Francis committed to help in the Clubs recruitment efforts.

Sept 30RCHS welcomed Governor Ambo and District officers; 5 new members, Interact officers and Club officers were formally inducted

In his talk before the officers , members and prospective members of RC Holy Spirit last September 22, 2010, PDG Danny Fausto very eloquently explained the leadership mindset that would best support the Object of Rotary. He inferred that in Rotary, the basis of leadership is not the unequal status of superior towards subordinates, but that of being first among friends and equals. PDG Danny further suggested that the foundation of leadership is not power nor authority, but love for friends which manifests itself in service, or ones readiness to serve. Then he wove into his presentation the philosophy of servant leadership, drawing from the thoughts of well-known expert John Maxwell. In his presentation, PDG Danny took occasion to explain Rotary and Rotary membership to the guests, and why it would be best for them to join Rotary via RC Holy Spirit in the neighbourhood. PDG Danny in effect reinforced the effort of District Membership Chair PP Francis Rivera who had actually persuaded three of his friends to attend the meeting and eventually join RC Holy Spirit.
