ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES FROM OTHER STATES

1. Candidates from other States should submit their applications at any one of the Study Centres of the Institute of Distance Education [IDE], University of Madras, of the State concerned for admission to various courses offered by IDE. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States will automatically be linked with the IDE Study Centre of the State concerned. Applications received by post from the candidates of other States where there is no Study Centre of this Institute will be linked with the nearby IDE Study Centre of the other State, and candidates should undergo the courses offered by this Institute through such allotted IDE Study Centre only.

ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES FROM OTHER COUNTRIES

Candidates from abroad, seeking admission to M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.Sc.(I.T.) Post-Graduate Professional Courses offered by the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, should submit their application along with two copies of the syllabus studied by them and also an EQUIVALENCE CERTIFICATE obtained from the University Grants Commission (UGC) / Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, in conformity with the course undergone by them as equivalent to the courses offered in the recognised Indian Universities. Besides, all Original Certificates with two sets of attested xerox copies of the relevant certificates should be enclosed along with the application form. Otherwise, the application submitted by the candidate is liable for cancellation without any intimation.

3. APPLICANTS TO NOTE
1. Before filling in the application, read the Prospectus carefully. Preserve the Prospectus till the completion of the course. 2. The Applicant has to detach and fill in the following : (1) Application Form, (2) Computer Coding Sheet, (3) Address Slip. 3. The Application must be accompanied by All the Original Certificates as stated in the Prospectus and the Registration Fee. Registration Fee for M.B.A., M.C.A., M.Sc.(I.T.) Courses : Rs.400/4. The Applicant has to state clearly the Course which he/she wants to study. 5. Photographs to be affixed : 1. One on the Application Form
[Attested by a Gazetted Officer/Faculty/Officials of the University with Seal].
2. One on the Address Slip. 3. One on the reverse side of the Coding Sheet.
IMPORTANT PA IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PAYMENT OF FEES

Students are advised to avail themselves of the facility offered by the BANKS designated by the Institute of Distance Education University of Madras, spread all over INDIA for payment of fees relating to remittance of Registration fee, Tuition fee, Examination fee and other fees as applicable without any additional charges. A challan in triplicate is appended to the Prospectus for the purpose of remittance of fees. The challan is also available in all branches of the designated BANKS. In places where there is no designated BANK, the students may make the payment by means of DEMAND DRAFT obtained from any Nationalised / Schedule Bank drawn in favour of THE DIRECTOR, IDE, UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS payable at Chennai.
ATTENTION AT TENTION
Students can seek admission only at those study / spot admission centres listed in the prospectus. Students are advised not to have any dealing with any other unauthorised Institutions / Agencies pertaining to admission to any of the courses offered by this Institute. They are cautioned that admission secured from unauthorised centres will be automatically cancelled.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
(A) M.B.A. - MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Master of Business Administration Degree Course in the Institute of Distance Education shall be required to have any one of the following qualifications : 1. A pass in any branch of study of a Bachelor Degree/Master Degree of the University of Madras or any other University recognised by the UGC/AIU or a qualification accepted by this University as equivalent thereto. 2. A Professional Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine/Architecture/Law. 3. Professional qualification in Accountancy, Cost & Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship.
(B) M.C.A. - MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Candidates who have passed the Degree Examinations of the University of Madras mentioned below or an examination of any other University recognised by UGC/AIU and accepted by this University as equivalent thereto provided they have undergone the course under 10 + 2 + 3 or 11 + 1 + 3 or 11 + 2 + 2 pattern or under the Open University System. 1) B.C.A./B.Com. Computer Applications/B.Sc. in Computer Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Physics / Applied Science / B.E.S. (or) 2) B.A. (Economics)/B.B.A./B.L.M./B.Com. (Commerce)/B.B.M. or B.Com. (Business Management)/ B.A. or B.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship)/any other Bachelors Degree in any discipline with Mathematics/Statistics or Business Mathematics/Business Statistics in Main/Allied level (or) 3) B.Sc. EXAMINATIONS 6. SCHEME OF EXAMINATIONS

(A) M.B.A. - MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
PROJECT REPORT Each student shall be required to prepare, on the basis of investigations carried out by him/her in a business or industrial organization, project report on possible solutions for a typical problem of current interest in the area of Management. The report should demonstrate the capability of the student for some creative potential and original approach to solve the practical problems in to-days business or industry. The report should include field studies, surveys, interpretation, planning and design of improved integrated management systems, presented in a comprehensive manner with recommendations for solutions based on scientifically worked out data. The Project Report must be submitted before the stipulated time, failing which the candidate will be treated as appearing on a second occasion and shall NOT BE ELIGIBLE for FIRST CLASS and RANKING. However, the students are given the option to take up two subjects in lieu of the project work in the second year. PASSING REQUIREMENTS (i) (ii) A candidate who secures not less than 50 percent marks in the Written Examination of each paper shall be declared to have passed the examination in that subject. a) A candidate shall be declared to have passed Project Work, and Viva Voce if he/she secures a minimum 50 percent marks in the Project Work and Viva Voce Evaluation. b) A candidate failing in any subject will be permitted to appear for the examinations again on a subsequent occasion without putting in any additional attendance. c) A candidate who fails in project work shall be permitted to redo the project work for evaluation, if so recommended by the examiners. (iii) A Candidate who successfully completes the course and passes the examinations of all TWO years prescribed as per Scheme of Examinations shall be declared to have qualified for the Degree provided the whole course has been completed within a maximum of 5 YEARS from the date of initial admission to the course.
CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES Successful candidates securing not less than 60 percent in the aggregate of the marks prescribed for the Course shall be declared to have qualified for the Degree in First Class provided they have passed the Project Work at the FIRST appearance and the Examination of all the other subjects within TWO YEARS after their admission. Successful candidates securing not less than 75 percent in the aggregate of the marks prescribed for the Course shall be declared to have qualified for the Degree with Distinction provided they pass all the examinations prescribed for the course in the first appearance. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the Second Class. RANKING Candidates who pass all the examinations prescribed for the course in the FIRST APPEARANCE ITSELF alone are eligible for Classification / Ranking / Distinction. TRANSITORY PROVISION Candidates who have undergone the course of study prior to the Calender Year Programme 2008 will be permitted to appear for the examinations under those regulations for a period of two years.

(B) M.C.A. - MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

The candidates performance in each paper is evaluated by a combination of continuous internal assessment and University Examination. The maximum mark for the continuous internal assessment is 25 and for the University Examination 75, for each paper. The marks for the continuous internal assessment for each theory paper shall be carried out by conducting the internal test and assignment or evaluation for continous internal assessment should be done by the faculty who is handling the paper. The performance of the candidates in the University examinations of the practical papers will be evaluated by two external examiners appointed by the University. The evaluation pattern for the University practical examination is : Record book Examination 10 marks 65 marks
For mini-project, the candidate should submit a report not exceeding 25 pages in the same format as prescribed for the final project report at the time of examination. The demonstration must be carried out in the presence of the examiners and the candidate should carry out the modifications suggested by the examiners during the examination. The final project work can be either carried out in the R & D Section of any Industry / University/ Institute or in the institute where the candidate is studying. The projects which are developed in study centres or training institutes will not be considered. For the final project work, the guide will evaluate (internal) the Project work for 25 marks based on the performance of the candidates during the development of the project and the two external examiners will evaluate the project work on the following basis : Project Report Viva Voce PASSING MINIMUM 1. A candidate shall be declared to have passed in each paper, if he/she secures not less than 40% of marks in the University examination and also not less than 50% in aggregate of the total maximum marks. 2. A candidate who has passed in all the papers and in the project work within the maximum period of five years reckoned from the date of admission to the course is declared to have qualified for the degree. Only those Candidates who have passed in all the papers including the practicals and project work in the first appearance are considered for ranking. PROCEDURE IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE 1. If the candidate fails in a particular paper (other than project work), he/she may reapear for the University examination in the paper in the subsequent years and obtain pass marks. 2. If the candidate fails in the project work, he/she should redo the project work and resubmit the same in the subsequent year with the suggested modifications for evaluation, if so recommended by the Examiners. The internal assessment marks shall be awarded afresh in this case.

RANKING Candidates who pass all examinations prescribed for the course in the First Appearance and within the period of Three Academic years from the year of Admission to the course alone are eligible for Ranking. 8. GENERAL INFORMATION
CERTIFICATES TO BE ENCLOSED WITH APPLICATION

All the Original Certificates mentioned, should be submitted or presented to The Director, IDE, University of Madras, Chennai - 600 005 / Co-ordinator of the Spot Admission Centres / Study Centres along with the application form for admission duly signed by the candidate with payment endorsed Bank Challan towards the Registration fee paid through any of the branches of the designated Banks. Failure to submit any of the above documents may entail rejection of their applications. In the case of candidates applying for M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.Sc.(I.T.), the Registration Fee of Rs. 400/- paid by means of challan endorsed by the designated Bank or a demand draft in favour of The Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, payable at Chennai, should be enclosed. This amount is not refundable under any circumstances. A Course Completion Certificate will be issued by the Institute on completion of the course, if the candidate has no arrears of fee. Candidates who have completed the course are permitted to take the examinations in which they have not passed even after the issue of the Course Completion Certificate till the regulation under which the candidate has undergone the course is in force. All the original certificates should be attached at the left hand top corner of the application form with a tag or string to prevent them from getting lost. Candidates are advised to make sufficient number of copies of their original certificates before sending them to the Institute.

10) Candidates pursuing any other course of study either in this Institute or elsewhere are eligible for admission only to Certificate or Diploma Courses offered by this Institute. They will not be permitted to join any other Degree Course offered by the Institute. 11) The filled in application form along with the necessary Certificates / Documents should be sent to the Director, IDE., by Registered Post with Acknowledgement due or presented in person at the Institute / Spot Admission Centres / Study Centres. 12) Admission to candidates who have qualified from other Universities / Bodies will be considered only on the condition that their previous qualifications are recognised by this University. However, action will be taken to recognise the examination of a recognised University, if the syllabus of the qualifying examination is produced by the candidate. IMPORTANT NOTE
Students who want to discontinue their courses after the completion of first/second year should inform the Director, IDE., before the 31st May of every year. Otherwise, full fees will be collected for the subsequent years. Only after receiving all the fees, his/her Course Completion Certificate will be issued. In the case of discontinuance this certificate will indicate only that part of the course completed. Legal dispute, if any, relating to Admission/Examinations of IDE., will be subject to Chennai Jurisdiction only. Visually and other Physically challenged candidates are advised not to apply for M.C.A./M.Sc. Information Technology Degree Courses and not to opt Elective Subject - Systems in M.B.A. Degree Course which involve operation of Computers.
METHOD OF PAYMENT OF FEES

1. No extension of time will be given under any circumstance for payment of fees. Fees may be paid by means of challan through any one of the branches of the designated Banks. In places where there is no designated Banks, the students may make the payment by Demand Draft (Nationalised / Scheduled Bank) drawn in favour of The Director, IDE, University of Madras, payable at Chennai. Postal Orders, Money Orders, Mail Transfers and cash payments will not be accepted. 2. Candidates are advised to send or present the designated Bank payment endorsed challan to the Institute or the Study Centre/Spot Admission Centre as soon as they get it from the Bank, so as to enable the Institute to send learning and other materials quickly or facilitate the collection of the learning materials from the Study Centre/Spot Admission Centre. 3. Students admitted through Study Centres are advised to submit the Bank payment endorsed Challan by the designated Bank to the Study Centre for onward transmission to the Director and for collecting the learning materials from the Study Centre. Fees once remitted will not be refunded or adjusted in any manner under any circumstances. 4. Prescribed text books are not supplied to the candidates by the Institute of Distance Education. Hence, they are advised to get them from the book-sellers. However, the syllabi and the learning materials will be sent to the candidates. 5. Learning materials will be supplied at the Personal Contact Programme Centres / Study Centres / Spot Admission Centres. CONDONATION OF BREAK IN STUDIES

Candidates who have discontinued courses from Colleges or from this Institute and seek admission in this Institute in the Second / Third Year of the course should pay a sum of Rs. 500/- or such fee as may be in force from time to time towards condoning the break in study and for permission to rejoin the course. If such students seek admission in some other branch of study, they will be permitted to join the II / III year subject to the condition that they should appear and pass all the subjects prescribed from I Year onwards on payment of the prescribed fee. Candidates from other Universities should pay Rs.750/- towards transfer fee in addition to condonation fee, if he/ she wants to join in the second / third year of the course.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
(1) The method of instruction comprises (a) distributing learning materials periodically, (b) personal contact programme. The learning materials can be collected by the students or his/her representative personally from the Institute/ P.C.P. Centres / Spot Admission Centres on production of the payment endorsed by the designated BANK Challan (IDE Copy) for the payment of tuition fees. (2) Attendance for the students relating to the Theory Classes / Practical Classes of M.B.A. / M.C.A. and M.Sc. (Information Technology) is compulsory. If a student does not attend the compulsory contact programme, he/she is not eligible for appearing for the University Examinations (Theory and Practical). If candidates appear for the University Examinations (Theory and Practical) without adequate attendance in the compulsory personal contact programme, they do so at their own risk and it leads to cancellation of their appearance in the Examinations. (3) Personal Contact Programme classes will be arranged for the benefit of students in selected centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and at the Study Centres in the other states of India. The number of P.C.P. Centres will depend on student enrolment. This programme is meant for class room lectures on important topics and clearing the doubts of the students. Students are advised to attend the classes in their own interest for effective learning. The venue and dates of these programmes will be intimated individually or notified from time to time in the leading dailies and in the Website (www.unom.ac.in). (4) The detailed schedule of the Personal Contact Programme will be intimated separately.

The applicants for admission are required to furnish their address in each of the six slots provided for the purpose on a separate sheet attached to the application form. The admission intimation, original certificates and learning materials will be sent to the address furnished in the Address Slip only. Write the address in capital letters and use ball pen only.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
All communications and learning materials in the case of those who opt to receive by post will be sent to the candidates to the address given in the application form. Any change in the address should be intimated to the Institute, Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre immediately with the enrolment number. Candidates are advised to make necessary arrangements in the post office for their mail to be redirected to their new address in the event of a despatch being sent before the change is effected. 32
IDENTITY CARD
The Identity Card will be issued after the First year tuition fee is paid. The Identity Card will be valid till the completion of the course. In the event of a student discontinuing a course, the card shall become invalid for the year / years yet to be completed. Candidates are instructed to preserve their identity cards. They should note that the examination Hall Ticket will be issued by the Chief Superintendent of the Examination Centre, only on production of the identity card. The arrear candidates can use the Identity Card for obtaining Hall Tickets even though the duration of the course of study is over. If the original card is lost, a duplicate will be issued on payment of Rs.100/-. The payment endorsed by the designated Bank challan (IDE. Copy) is to be sent for this purpose together with a passport size photograph.
ENROLMENT NUMBER
An Enrolment Number will be assigned to the candidate on admission. This enrolment number will hold good for the entire duration of the course of study. In every communication addressed to the Institute, this number should be quoted. Letters received without the enrolment number will not be entertained. The Enrolment Number is a twelve digit unique code (alpha-numeric). The first two digits indicate the year of admission. The third, fourth and the fifth the centre, the sixth, seventh and the eighth the subject and last four the actual enrolment number.
SCHOLARSHIP
A) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who pursue their studies through this Institute under the Regular Stream alone are eligible for reimbursement of the fees. They are also eligible for an annual allowance of Rs.500/- towards purchase of essential/prescribed books. This prescribed scholarship form and other particulars in this connection can be obtained from the Director, Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai - 600 005 after Payment of Tuition Fees. Visually or other physically challenged candidates, can avail themselves of the State Government Scholarship for the disabled. The prescribed form may be obtained from the District Rehabilitation Officer in the districts concerned for reimbursement of non-refundable fees. Eligible SC/ST students are directed to submit the SC/ST scholarship form during their study at IDE only and no SC/ST scholarship application form will be accepted after the period of study at IDE on any circumstances.

FEE CONCESSION
The Institute of Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras offers fee concession to differentially abled persons and prisoners subject to the following norms. : (i) Differently abled candidates with 75% physical disability will be considered for exemption from tuition fee provided they submit a Disability Certificate obtained from The Director, Institute of Physical Disability and Rehabilitation, K.K. Nagar, Chennai. Prisoners in Tamil Nadu are also be considered for exemption from tuition fee provided they submit their application for admission with a No Objection Certificate issued by the competent authority. Women Students of the IDE., are eligible for 20% concession in tuition fee. Graduates of the University of Madras pursuing a Postgraduate Course in the IDE., are eligible for 20% concession in tutition fee. Undergraduate students of the IDE., can do one additional Certificate Course (excepting French, German and Sanskrit) for which tuition fee is waived. Postgraduate students of the IDE., can do one additional Diploma Course (excepting French, German and Sanskrit) for which tuition fee is waived. Defence Service Personnel are eligible for 20% concession in tuition fee.

SPOT ADMISSION
1) Spot Admission for the first year will be given to those who come to the Institute / Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre in person with the required Certificates / Documents. Eligible candidates who seek spot admission can collect their first-year learning materials at the Institute / Spot Admission Centre / Study Centre itself, by producing the IDE copy of the fee paid designated Bank challan towards Registration Fee plus Tuition Fee and other fees prescribed for the first year. Candidates seeking lateral admission into the Second Year M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.Sc.(I.T.), and Third Year M.C.A. Postgraduate Professional Degree Courses in the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras should enclose two copies of the relevant syllabus of the course they have undergone in the First / Second year through the Colleges including Autonomous Colleges affiliated to recognised Indian Universities for perusal and approval by the University authorities pertaining to exemption of papers in which they have already passed. Besides, the original certificates pertaining to 10th and 12th [+ 1 & + 2] School Education Mark Statement / 3 Year Degree Statement of Marks, First Year/Second Year Postgraduate Professional Degree Course Statement of Marks Passed / Failed and Transfer Certificate from the Institution where the candidates have undergone and discontinued their First Year/Second Year M.B.A./M.C.A./M.Sc. (I.T.) Courses, and one set of attested xerox copies of the relevant original certificates should be enclosed along with the application form. Students seeking lateral admission to Second / Third Year Postgraduate Courses with exemption of papers should attach two copies of syllabus of the subject for which exemption is sought
Candidates from abroad, seeking admission/lateral admission to the M.B.A./M.C.A./M.Sc.(I.T.) Post-Graduate Professional Degree Courses in the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras should submit their application along with two copies of the authenticated syllabus studied by them and also an EQUIVALENCE CERTIFICATE obtained from the University Grants Commission (UGC)/Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, in conformity with the course undergone by them as equivalent to the courses offered in recognised Indian Universities. Besides, Original Certificates with two sets of xerox copies of the relevant certificates as specified above should be enclosed along with the application form. Initially provisional admission will be given with exemption for the year completed on condition that the candidates have to appear and pass all the papers from the First year onwards irrespective of the lateral admission given to the Second Year [M.B.A. / M.C.A. / M.Sc.(I.T.)] Courses / Third Year [M.C.A.] Course. However, exemption for papers in which the candidate has already passed may be considered after perusal of the authenticated syllabus submitted by the candidates by the authorities of the University of Madras. On approval by the University authorities, candidates will be informed individually. Candidates from other Universities/Autonomous Colleges, seeking lateral admission to the Second Year M.B.A./M.C.A./M.Sc.(I.T.)/ThirdYear M.C.A. CANDIDATES WITH ARREARS

Students with arrears, after the completion of the duration of the course of study, have to seek and obtain on their own initiative, with a requisition letter and with self-addressed envelope, the particulars of change of syllabus, provision for completion of course, practical classes, practical examinations, Examination Application Forms, from the Director, IDE., University of Madras. Co-ordinators of PCP Centres/Spot Admission Centres/Study Centres may provide the above particulars. In all the communications to the Institute, these candidates should quote the Enrolment Number and Address.
PROVISIONAL CERTIFICATE AND DEGREE

Provisional Certificate will be issued to those who have qualified for the degree after the publication of results. For obtaining Provisional Certificate and Degree / Diploma, a Fee of Rs.300/- or such fees as may be in force from time to time, should be paid along with the Final Year Examination Fee. Prescribed forms for obtaining Provisional Certificate and Degree/Diploma are also available with the Institute/P.C.P. Centres/Spot Admission Centres/Study Centres. PAYMENT OF FEES
Students are advised to avail themselves of the facility offered by the BANKS designated by the Institute of Distance Education University of Madras, spread all over INDIA for payment of fees relating to remittance of Registration fee, Tuition fee, Examination fee and other fees as applicable without any additional charges. A challan in triplicate is appended to the Prospectus for the purpose of remittance of fees. The challan is also available in all the designated BANK branches. In places where there is no designated BANK, the students may make the payment by means of DEMAND DRAFT obtained from any Nationalised / Schedule Bank drawn in favour of THE DIRECTOR, IDE, UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS payable at Chennai.

13. ADMISSION TO CERTIFICATE & DIPLOMA COURSES INFORMATION TO CANDIDATES

Along with the course selected, if an applicant wishes to join any one of the Certificate or Diploma courses simultaneously, he/she should obtain separate Prospectus prescribed for the Certificate/Diploma Courses on payment of Rs. 100/- in person or Rs. 150/- by post towards the cost of Application and Prospectus and to submit the application together with bonafide certificate of the Institution where he/she is studying the Postgraduate Degree Course.

CERTIFICATE (A) CERTIFICATE COURSES
a) Candidates undergoing any Degree Course (Regular Stream) of the University of Madras or any other University recognised by UGC/AIU accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission to the Certificate Courses other than Sanskrit, French & German. Candidates who have passed any Degree Course (Regular Stream / Open University System) of the University of Madras or any other University recognised by UGC/AIU accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission to the Certificate Courses in Sanskrit, French & German. A student can additionally enrol for one Certificate Course only at a time.

DIPLOMA (B) DIPLOMA COURSES

a) Candidates undergoing any Post-Graduate Degree Course (Regular Stream) of the University of Madras or any other University recognised by UGC/AIU accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission to the Diploma Courses other than Sanskrit, French & German. Candidates who have passed any Degree Course (Regular Stream / Open University System) and Certificate Course in Sanskrit, French & German of the University of Madras or any other University recognised by UGC/AIU accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are eligible for admission to the Diploma Courses in Sanskrit, French & German. Graduates who have done French, German as a second language in the First Year and Second Year of the Degree Course/Certificate from Alliance Franchaise/Max Muller Bhavan are also eligible for admission to the respective Diploma Courses. Candidates who have passed +2 Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu (or) Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by the CBSE (or) Government Board Examinations of the Other States (or) Union Territories (or) an Examination as equivalent thereof by the authorities, University of Madras are eligible for admission to the Diploma Course in Rain Water Harvesting only. A student can additionally enrol for one Diploma Course only at a time.
