Honoring Our Word

God was going to destroy the first born in every home of the Egyptians. The blood on the doors of the Israelites would save them because it was a sign for the angle to pass over the door. When the angle saw the blood, he would pass over. No one was to go outside until the next morning. The plague would not touch that house. Characters: Three narrators or puppets N1: Have you met the new neighbors who moved in across the road? N2: No, I but I did hear some animal sounds over there. N1: With all those large barns over there, I guess they have room for a lot of animals. N2: Did you notice those sheep? N1: Sheep? N2: Look like they were just sheared too! N1: Youd think that would hurt. N2: No way! It doesnt hurt to get a haircut does it?

N1: No, but thats not my whole body either. N2: Sheep are pretty dumb you know, N1: Whys that?

N2: They follow a leader and do not make decisions for themselves. Sometimes, they wander away from the group and get lost and a wolf comes along and harms them.

N3: Baa! Baa! I hear some sheep. Baaaaaaaaa!

N2: The new neighbors, who moved in recently, across the street have some sheep.

N3: Hmmm! Have you heard the story about the Israelites when they were preparing for the Passover?

N1: Pass over? My teacher does that to me every day. I never get my turn to go to the Sparty Mart store. She passes over me and I hold my hand up forever!

N2: Maybe you talk too much during announcements. N3: On the 10th day of the month the Israelites were to take a year old lamb or goat for their family.

N1 What for?

N3: They were to roast it and eat the meat and put the blood on the sides and top of their house doors.

N2: No way!

N3: They were to eat it with their cloak tucked in their belts, sandals on their feet, and a staff in their hand. They had to eat it fast, too. N1: Yuck! I cant stand to eat lamb. Im glad that Im not an Israelite for sure.

N2: What was the purpose of all that?

N3: God was going to destroy the first born in every home of the Egyptians. The blood on the doors of the Israelites would save them because it was a sign for the angle to pass over the door. When the angle saw the blood, he would pass over. No one was to go outside until the next morning. The plague would not touch that house.

N1: Did they do other stuff to prepare for this Passover?

N3: God did give some instructions for celebrating the feast of Unleavened Bread for future remembrance of how he brought them out of Egypt. They were to eat bread without yeast in it for seven days. On the first day and seventh day of the week no one could work. They had to prepare food. N2: Cool! I wouldnt have to do my homework.

N1: No chores! Yeah!

N3: God wanted them to remember all this to be able to tell to their children. He wanted them to k now how the Egyptians were struck down.

N2: I love the stories that my grandpa tells to me all the time.

N1: Me too! I remember the one when he had to walk a mile to school everyday. One day, he decided to skip school and went fishing with his friend. Did he ever get a whooping when his dad found out? He couldnt sit for a week.

M2: My mom would ground me for a whole week.

N3: God raised Pharaoh for this very purpose to show His power. God wanted His name proclaimed in all the earth.

N1: What did God send next?

N2: A BIG hurricane!

N3: God sent the worst hailstorm that had ever been in Egypt.

N2: Did it hurt anyone?

N3: The officials of Pharaoh who feared God hurried and brought their slaves and cattle inside to safety.

N1: Did Moses use his staff on this plague as well?

N3: When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky it rained hail on all the land of Egypt. However, it did not rain any in all the land of Goshen.

N2: That was where the children of Israel lived!

N3: Moses said that if Pharaohs asked him to pray for the Lord to stop the hail that he would spread his hands in prayer and there would be no more hail.

N1: Did Pharaoh ask him to?

N3: Yes, then Pharaoh broke his promise and would not let the people go to worship God. N2: Thats bad! My mom said I should keep my word even if it hurts.

N1: My dad says that is how people learn to trust us when we honor our word.

N3: Pharaoh was not a man of his word. Remember that God was using him to show His power.

N2: Yeah! God could have wiped them all out!

N1: But He chose to show His power!

All: Power! Power! Power! God has great power!

N3: See you all next time.
