The European Tour The 200th birthday of the United States was in 1976, and we decided to celebrate by going to Europe and singing American music. We flew out of Montreal to Copenhagen the day after SU's graduation. Our first concert was in the little Danish town of Frederikshavn. We took the train to Germany, where we were guests of the Bremen town choir and had a joint concert with them. Then we had a bus for the rest of the tour. In Holland we sang in Amsterdam. In France we sang in Paris, Chartres, and Strasbourg. When we got to Italy we sang in Florence and Rome. We also got to sing for Vatican Radio. Our last concert was in Geneva, Switzerland. But it wasn't all singing. We got to have fun too. We went to Tivoli Gardens in Denmark, toured the canals of Amsterdam, got to see the Eiffel Tower, and climbed the leaning tower of Pisa. We all had a great time.

She didn't lose all her clothes. Just the ones she needed for concerts. Joanie had left her concert clothes at the hotel in Belgium. The hotel people told us they'd send the clothes to our next stop, but we never saw them again. It wasn't a big problem at first. For the next few concerts there was always a girl who was sick, so Joanie would wear that girl's clothes. But in Italy we had a problem. No girls were sick. Fortunately Dennis was. So for the rest of the concerts she wore his clothes. It was funny trying to pass her off as a guy because her hair was down to her waist, but a lot of guys had really long hair back then. It didn't fool the Italian audiences. When the concerts were over, they'd immediately run up to check her out. I guess they knew a girl when they saw one.

I didn't have that problem at all. My problem was food lag. We had breakfast in Syracuse at 7:00 our time. Then on the drive to Montreal we stopped for lunch around noon. At 6:00 we had dinner at the airport. That seems just fine, but when we got on the plane we started crossing different time zones and getting their meals. They served us breakfast about an hour before we landed in Amsterdam. Then on the flight from Amsterdam to Copenhagen we got breakfast again. Once we got to our hotel and unpacked, it was noon Danish time and lunch was waiting for us at a nearby restaurant. Denmark is six hours ahead was 6:00 in the morning by time. This meant that we'd full meals in less than 24 of us, so it Syracuse eaten six hours.

That's just too much food. Even for me.
