MUMBAI PORT TRUST Project cargo manufactured at minor and intermediate ports located in Gujarat are moved to MbPT by barges for onward shipment by the mother vessels. Construction machinery, road rollers, machinery of turnkey projects, boilers, transformers, dredgers, over dimensional power equipment, etc are regularly transported through the MbPT either as exports or as imports. OEMs and heavy engineering industrial units located in the hinterland find Mumbai port to be the preferred port for shipment of goods such as windmill parts, transformers, etc. Also the location of MbPT, makes it Indias highest Project Cargo handling port. Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Gujrat based firms like Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd., Crompton Greaves Ltd, Suzlon Energy Ltd., Godrej & Boyce, etc. are the regular shipper in MbPT either importing or exporting to Western globe America, Europe for mainly importing and Africa towards Exports.

Gujrat Maritime Board Ports Vibrant Gujrat as well as successful SEZ nearby the gulf of kutcha, brought the GMB ports in demand for import and export of Project cargos and ODCs as well as Heavy Lift Cargo. GMB Ports have overseen the movement of project cargoes for companies such as Reliance Industries, Reliance Petroleum, ABG Infralogistics, Electotherm, Oman Refineries, BHEL, Cairn Energy, Sumitomo, Adani Power, Tata Power and Rajwest Power, etc. Upcoming EPC projects in Gujrat and Mumbai-Delhi belt are the prime reason and sector for Import of Project Cargo overseas mainly from western globe, US and Europe. Also the manufacturers in similar zone are exporting Cargos to Africa and Sothern Asia.

CHENNAI PORT For the April-December period of fiscal 2008, project cargo handled at the port more than doubled by 127 per cent to 1,85,000 tonnes from 81,000 tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The number of visiting vessels increased to 141 till December from 79 vessels earlier. Cargo from countries like China, Germany, Korea, Japan and Russia

increased to 1,58,791 tonnes in 2007-08 from 54,697 tonnes in 2006-07. Exports to countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Korea and the US increased to 27,109 tonnes from 26,865 tonnes. The port expected tremendous traffic growth over the next two years with import and export of project cargoes forecast to reach 200,000 tonnes and 75,000 tonnes respectively. By 2012, the import of project cargo will be six times what it is now while exports will be five times the present figure, as quoted by the senior official. Import of Sewing Machine from Chinese market has risen radically overthrowing the imports from European like Germany and Switzerland. The port, Chennai and Tuticorin are overseen for sewing machine import from China.

VISHAKHAPATNAM PORT Imports of Mining machineries as well as Equipments and Machineries used in extraction methods are in demand nearby vizag port, leading to rise in Imports of project cargo and ODCs. Also the metal extraction plants nearby ports exporting Heavy Lift cargos from port.
