ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS SECRETBEHIND Garden

NAME : NURUL AFIFA BT ISHAK CLASS : 5 IBNU RUSYD (502) TEACHER : AINON BT TAMBY CHIK

Preface
First and foremost, I praises god for His kindness and blessing I was able to finish this interesting additional mathematics project. A full of thanks to all additional mathematics panels and teachers especially my additional mathematics teacher, Mrs. Ainon Thamby Chik because all of them had help me a lot in compiling this project. Also not to-beforget, thanks to my parents and family that had sacrifice their money and precious time to help me and encourage along the way in the making of this project. Also to all my friends thank you for helping me out in solving the mathematics problems that was given in the questions. This project has help me to realize and figure the beauty and essential of additional mathematics to be apply in everyday life. Additional mathematics is really exciting to be learn and it is important for us to appreciate the existence of this knowledge. Garden is the topic I choose to answer from the questions given as it hold many applications secret of additional mathematics in it.

Objective
The objective of making this project are to enable students to:
y Apply mathematics to everyday situations and appreciates the importance and the beauty of mathematics in everyday lives. y Improve problem-solving skills, thinking skills, reasoning and mathematical communications. y Develop positive attitude and personalities and intrinsic mathematical values such as accuracy, confidence and systematic reasoning. y Stimulate learning environment that enhances effective learning, inquiry-based and team work. y Develop mathematical knowledge in a way which increases students interest and confidence.

The History of Cartesian Coordinates

The Solutions of The Problems

Malaysia with its warm tropical climate is rich in flora and fauna. Beautiful gardens are found all over Malaysia.SMK Permata decided to beautify the school compound by getting the students involved in the planting and maintenance of the greenery in the school compound as shown in Diagram 1.Each society is allocated a plot of land in various shapes and sizes to nurture throughout the year. The Mathematics Society,English Language Society and Malay Language Society are allocated the region P,Q and R respectively as shown in Diagram 1 .

a) Determine the area of region P,Q and R by using at least three different methods including the use of calculus.Verify the answers obtained by using

computer software . The methods that I choose to apply in the finding of the area of region P,Q and R are : Rectangle, trapezium and triangle formula. Coordinate formula. Geometrical sketchpad.

b) Suppose there is a hedge along AB.The M athematics Society wishes to fences up the remaining sides of region P.Determine the length of fence required. The length of fence required are :

c) If a metre of fence costs RM 25.00, what is the total cost required by the Mathematics Society to fence up region P? Is it possible for the society to carry out the fencing with an allocation of RM 250.00? Explain your answer. The costs for one metre fences =

d) During the Mathematics Week, the society was given a single flag chain of length 9.20 meters to be used completely. The President of the society wishes to tie the flag continuously from A to E and then to another point along the hedge AB to create a triangular- shaped area. i. Make a conjecture about the number of points the flag chain can be tied along AB.

The distance from A to E is 5 meters. So there is 4.20 meters extra flag chain. The 4.2 meters flags chain can be tied onto two points( P and Q) along the hedge AB as shown in the diagram below.

The diagram above show that PM = MQ= m. So the flag chain can be tie on P which is 1.36 m(3.00+1.64) from point A.

Calculate the maximum area of the triangle obtained.Discuss.

Part 3
The Mathematics society decided to build a pond in region P as shown in diagram 2.The pond is in the shape of a sector with centre E, radius ED and a depth of one meter.

a) Calculate the angle AED, in radians, by using at least two different methods. For this calculation I would like to use two different methods that are: Trigonometry Calculation. Geometrical Sketchpad.

By using Trigonometry Calculation.

From the diagram above we can calculate :

By using Geometrical Sketchpad.

b) Determine the volume of water that has to be pumped in to fill up 80% of the pond. The volume of the pond =

The water that has to be pumped in to fill up 80% of the pond =

c) If the water is pumped into the pond at a constant rate of 0.001 m s. Calculate: I. The rate of change of depth of the water. The rate of change can be equate as below :

II.

The depth of water after 10 minutes.
