BE ALERT NOT ALARMED Last Friday afternoon on Gaskill Street a 10 year old boy was approached by a man who tried to lure him into the car. Thankfully the boy fled and told his mother who immediately contacted the police. It is dreadful to think that this could happen in our town, however it is the responsibility of the whole community to ensure the safety of our children. Although there are no details concerning this incident, it is a timely reminder that we need to maintain vigilance generally. Following on from the Stranger Danger program, NSW Police have developed 'Keeping Me Safe' program. This program is designed to provide children with simple strategies to help ensure their own personal safety. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss the Safe People, Safe Places messages with their children, including: Avoid walking on your own and instead walk with other family members, friends or an adult they know when going to and from school; Walk near busier roads and streets, or use paths where there are lots of other people; Make sure your parents or another adult you know knows where you are at all times; Always walk straight home or to the place you are walking to; Know where safe places are a shop, service station, police station, library or school. If you are ever frightened, you should go to one of these places and ask them to call the police; Learn about safe adults you can look for and talk to if you need help police officers, teachers at school, adults you know and trust; Dont talk to people you dont know and never get into a car with someone you dont know. If a car stops on the side of the road and you dont know the person inside, do not stop; and if you can, try to remember what the person looks like, what the car looks like, and what the number plate is. If you are scared and can use a phone, call 000 and tell them you are scared. Remember: contact the local police on 6344 1300 if you suspect ANY unusual behaviour, not necessarily just toward children. We need to send a message of zero tolerance to anyone who behaves in an anti-social or criminal manner, to actively create a peaceful and safe environment in which to live.

PYTHONS UPDATE
On Saturday the Canowindra Pythons travelled to Cudal to take on old rivals the Cobras. As this was the start of the second round both teams wanted the points. Though the Pythons seemed to be on the wrong end of the penalty count from the start, giving away 4 full arm penalties in a row. With the Cobras on the attack it was only the great defence from the likes of Tom Abbott, Toddy Wyburn and Dan Williamsthat stopped the Cudal team from scoring. The Pythons soon turned defence to attack and Alex Myres and Aaron Wooley combined well in the centres to give plenty of space to outside backs Lachie Noble, Luke Watt and the Knight boys to cut loose on their bigger opponents. Aaron was soon to go over for his first of 3 tries for the day. Jack Knight was next to cross the try line with a great run down the left wing and go over for another 5 pointer for the pythons. Tom's kicking boots were allowing him to convert the first 2 tries from out wide to give the pythons a 14-0 advantage. Though the Cudal boys soon fired up and got a meat pie for them selves under the sticks to keep them in range. However Luke Watt soon dampened their enthusiasm as he scored a great try down the left wing with his usual hard running that the opposition cant seem to rap him up. Aaron soon got on the score board again just on half time when he split the defence and placed the ball under the posts to give the pythons their bonus point and a 28-7 lead at half time. The game seemed to stay in the forwards for the majority of the second half and gave a chance for Adam Grant, Dan Bowd, Sam Barker and Brodie Friend to have some strong "pick and drives" down the centre of the field. Adam Nash was the first to cross in the second half with a push over try from out wide. tom was able to convert again. With the game all but won Tom was so impressed with his kicking for the day he decided to slot a field goal over also. Aaron finished the game of with style by again charging through the defence and scoring his hat-trick. The try was unconverted to leave the score at 42-7 convincing win to the pythons. Points for the day went to Hugh Wills got 3 for a great game all over the paddock, Dan Williams got a well deserved 2 and Tom Abbott and Adam Grant got one each. Players player also went to Hugh. This weekend see's the boys take on last years premiers Grenfell at Grenfell which should be a real test for the boys, especially with a few of the boys away this weekend. Don't forget you can still buy your tickets for hypnotist Roger Johnson performing 2 July at the Club House after our Sponsors' Day against Blayney. CLOTHES WITH A CONSCIENCE Saffi is a sweet little boutique on the eastern end of Canowindra offering a beautiful range of 42 Ferguson Street Canowindra clothing and accessories for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Saffi is definitely the place for some retail therapy for keen shoppers, but owner Liz Mitchell is especially excited about some therapy at the other end of the industry. Lately there has been a shift in the fashion industry towards ethically produced and Fairtrade garments, and away from those produced in sweatshops, Liz said. I also find myself drawn to the companies that use sustainable materials in the production of their garments. from Western Australia One such ethical clothing company is the appeared in Bran Nue Dae Victorian owned and operated 3Fish. 3Fish recently received two high-profile 3 course meal & show $75 accolades: the United Nations of Australia (Vic) award for Sustainability Leadership in Small Business; and the Victorian Premiers Sustainability Awards (Small Business category). tastecanowindra.com.au From inception in 2008, 3Fishs principle has been to do the right thing, making sure every for updates on acts & ticket info decision it makes is socially and environ- www.tastecanowindra.com.au mentally responsible, right down to the recycled packaging and organic farming or phone techniques. The cotton used is organic and Fairtrade, using organic dyes and inks. The 3Fish provides ethical clothing through a range of different channels including its own retail label, custom-made items and off-the shelf corporate wear. Liz says that other companies such as Pomegranate and Jimmy Jean now use Modal which is a natural cellulose fibre made from Beechwood. Melbourne-made Mesop also proudly make their light wool and 100% woollen garments from Australian non-mulesed Merino wool. Call into Saffi and ask about these labels and more, especially Silver Wing jewellery and their support of the Thai Teenage Project. Saffi is open 7 days at corner Ferguson and Belmore Streets Canowindra 02 6344 2888. This Sunday at 4-6pm, folk@canowindra will be held at taste Canowindra. This increasingly popular monthly event is a gathering for music and poetry lovers from the region both performers and listeners! Last month's event was very exciting with four new acts appearing, and an extremely high quality of music! Make sure you arrive on time - it's getting harder and harder to find a seat! The feature act this month, Adam Bell, is a guitar-slinging artist who usually fronts the raucous Canberra rockabilly band The King Hits. There is another side to Adam's guitar work though, he is a great admirer of the man Steve Earle once vowed to stand on Bob Dylan's coffee-table in his cowboy boots and call the greatest songwriter of all time: Townes Van Zandt. At the Canowindra Folk Club, Adam will be in acoustic mode and will be playing some Townes and whatever else takes his cotton-picking fancy. It will be his first ever solo gig but, trust me, he is not to be missed. NEXT month's folk@canowindra will be a poetry special. On 31 July, we will have four feature poets, and a poetry competition with prizes for both original and performed poetry. So please start preparing. All are welcome to folk@canowindra, it's a great way to while away the last Sunday of the month! Enquiries call Nerida 0429 048 603.

TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH This Sunday afternoon at Tom Clyburn oval sees the clash between second place Canowindra Tigers and first on the ladder Peak Hill Roosters, who remain undefeated. This Sunday should not be missed with First Grade kicking off at 2pm. Last Sunday the Tigers continued their winning run with a tough 38-16 win against old foes the Eugowra Golden Eagles. Big Brad Bowman crossed for the first try of the match, and Damian Kennedy was back to his best, with a great running game setting up first half tries for Rob Burn and Mat Kelly giving the Tigers the lead 16-6 at the break. Second half saw the Eugowra team constantly attack the Tigers, but great defence from youngsters Lachlan Watson and Aaron Earsman repelled the raids. Second half tries to Mat Kelly, Kenny Turnbull, Darren Nurcombe and Damian Kennedy saw the Tigers run out eventual winners 38-16. This was a tough game and the competition points well earned. Best for the Tigers Nick Willson, Damian Kennedy, Brad Bowman, Lachlan Watson and Mat Kelly Canowindra 38 (Mat Kelly 2, Ken Turnbull, Darren Nurcombe, Damian Kennedy, Brad Bowman, Rob Burn tries: Darren Nurcombe 2, Rob Burn 3 goals) defeated Eugowra 16 (Grant McMillan, David Tildsley, Nathan Skeers tries: David Tildsley 2 goals). LEAGUE TAG: It was team one versus team two as the Tigresses took on the Geagles. The game started at a frantic pace and it wasnt until the half way mark of the first half that the scoreboard moved with a try to the Tigresses Madi Vitnell. Shortly after the Geagles had no answers for the speed of Jess Dzerigas as she raced 60 metres to score. The second half started as quick as the first, with both sides going end to end, eventually though the Tigresses fitness showed through with further tries to Kathy Davis, Hannah Roth, Jess Dzerigas and Tara Grant and the Tigresses running out winners 6-1. The Tigresses now sit undefeated on top of the ladder. GO GIRLS!!! WOODBRIDGE CUP YOUTH LEAGUE: This was a physical match that could have been won by either side. The tigers werent quite on their game but still had an opportunity to win the match. Canowindra trailed 20-12 with 10 minutes to go before Eugowra put the
