di scoprire nuovi posti e nuove culture
e di viaggiare, per noi è da sempre una
costante. Non riusciamo a stare fermi e
quando torniamo da un viaggio inizia-
mo già a pensare al prossimo.
Se anche voi vi sentite contagiati da
questa bizzarra e alquanto gratificante
"patologia", correte subito a leggere la
spiegazione del revenge travel che ci dà la
nostra psicologa (la trovate a pagina 20)
per capirne i sintomi, e poi abbandona-
tevi alle cure che vi proponiamo: sette
destinazioni dove fuggire subito, per-
fette per l'estate torrida appena comin-
ciata. Ce n'è per tutti i gusti, dagli atolli

I quest’anno! Le persone hanno ricomin-
ciato ad andare altrove nonostante la
crisi ancora in atto. Ma che cos’è questa
voglia quasi sfrenata di viaggiare, pal-
pabile nell’aria? Sembra che tutti siano afflitti
dalla sindrome di wanderlust anche conosciuta
come “malattia del viaggiatore”. Si chiama così
l’irresistibile brama di esplorare il mondo e di
vagabondare alla ricerca di luoghi nuovi e di
esperienze inconsuete. In realtà, tale disturbo
ha molte caratteristiche dai toni peculiari e biz-
zarri. Ciò che si sta diffondendo in questa sta-
gione estiva, a seguito della pandemia da Covid,
sembrerebbe a primo impatto una sindrome di
wanderlust, caratterizzata da una vera e propria
crisi di astinenza ma, a un’analisi più attenta e
approfondita, è una tendenza che sta contagian-

The desire for vacations has exploded
again this year! People have started going
elsewhere again despite the still ongoing
crisis. But what is this almost unbridled
desire to travel, palpable in the air?

“traveler’s disease.” It is called the irre-
sistible yearning to explore the world
and wander in search of new places and
unusual experiences. In fact, this disorder
has many characteristics with peculiar
and bizarre overtones.
What is spreading this summer season,
as a result of the Covid pandemic, would

syndrome, characterized by a full-blown
withdrawal, but upon closer and deeper
analysis, it is a trend that is infecting mil-
lions of people around the world and has
been termed “Revenge Tourism.” Over the
past two years, Covid has changed the hab-
its of many, including their travel habits.
For so long, too many people have been
traveling by imagination, through movies,
reading books, or searching for photos and
videos on social.
What is Revenge Travel?
The term “revenge” means return and,
in this definition, it has absolutely no
negative connotation. In the post-Covid
era, the idea of “revenge travel” seems to
be a trend that tourists like a lot; it rep-
resents a form of redemption against the
pandemic and isolation suffered.
Such a word reveals a desire to make up
for lost time.

detta. Negli ultimi due anni il Covid ha cambiato
le abitudini di molti, comprese quelle di viaggio.
Per tanto tempo troppe persone si sono spostate
con la fantasia, attraverso i film, leggendo libri o
cercando foto e video sul social.
Che cos’è il Revenge Travel?
Il termine “revenge” significa vendetta e, in questa
definizione, non ha assolutamente una connotazio-
ne negativa. Nell’era post-Covid l’idea del “viaggio
di rivalsa” sembra un trend che piace molto ai turi-
sti, rappresenta una forma di riscatto nei confronti
della pandemia e dell’isolamento subito. Tale parola

rivela la volontà di recuperare il tempo perso.
Lorenzo il Magnifico, già in una ballata del ‘400
esortava a godere pienamente delle gioie della vita
considerandone la fugacità:
Quant’è bella giovinezza
che si fugge tuttavia!
Chi vuol essere lieto, sia:
del domani non v’è certezza…
Il viaggiatore che intraprende un Revenge Travel
è animato soprattutto dal desiderio di libertà e di
esplorazione piuttosto che dalla voglia di raggiunge-
re una destinazione specifica.
Si definisce turista “wandermust” quello che si sposta
per ricercare una nuova visione della vita, per fare espe-
rienze che stimolino la gioia di vivere e forniscano la giu-
sta quota di dopamina. Ultimamente, tanti presentano
il desiderio di trascorrere più tempo con la famiglia, di
connettersi con gli altri e con la natura, di provare espe-
rienze che facciano sentire finalmente vivi e consentano
di gustare la vita, nell’ottica del “carpe diem”.
Le abitudini di viaggio sono mutate.
È cambiata enormemente la percezione del benes-
sere e la sua ricerca. Il viaggiatore per ritrovare l’e-
quilibrio psicofisico cerca esperienze di benessere
olistico, condizioni di relax e sport allo stesso tempo
(anche durante la vacanza), viaggi di gruppo che gli

frequenti oppure più lunghi, soggiornando
in vere e proprie case vacanze; si prenotano
viaggi online ma si ricercano mete che sono
all’insegna del digital detox; si viaggia mag-
giormente ma si chiede grande flessibilità nel
cancellare una prenotazione anche in prossi-
mità della partenza.
Il lungo periodo trascorso in casa ha consenti-
to una ridefinizione delle priorità di vita e con

lowed for a redefinition of life priorities
and with that also the ability to travel
and be together with others.
In short, the dominant words these days
seem to be “well-being,” “security,” and
“escape.” For a long time, because of the
restrictions, so many fell back on domes-
tic destinations that allowed for better
knowledge and enjoyment of their own

territory. However, after the restrictions
were changed, the desire to fly and the
search for distant destinations returned.
To allow oneself to be infected by “re-
venge travel” is to be overwhelmed by
the desire for discovery, to defeat, for
some, anxiety about flying and fear of
contagion, symptoms that appeared in
many people as a result of long confine-
ment that, as one can imagine, exacer-
bated some concerns and developed
others. Some were even infected with
the “hut syndrome,” which amplified the
fear of living in the outside world.
Man is by nature a social being who needs
to be among others and to travel; there-
fore, those who have not yet been infect-
ed by Revenge Toruism will soon be if

assieme agli altri. Insomma, le parole dominan-
ti in questo periodo sembrano essere “benesse-
re”, “sicurezza” ed “evasione”. Per molto tempo,
a causa delle limitazioni, tanti hanno ripiegato
su destinazioni nazionali che hanno permesso
una migliore conoscenza e un maggior godi-
mento del proprio territorio. Tuttavia, dopo
la modifica delle restrizioni è ritornata la voglia
di volare e la ricerca di mete lontane. Lasciarsi
contagiare dal “viaggio di rivalsa” vuol dire far-
si travolgere dal desiderio di scoperta, sconfig-
gere, per alcuni, l’ansia di volare e la paura del
contagio, sintomi comparsi in molte persone
a seguito di una lunga reclusione che, come si
può immaginare, ha esacerbato qualche preoc-
cupazione e ne ha sviluppate altre. Alcuni sono
stati persino contagiati dalla “sindrome della ca-
panna” che ha amplificato la paura di vivere nel
mondo esterno. L’uomo è per natura un essere
sociale che ha bisogno di stare in mezzo agli altri
e di viaggiare; pertanto, chi ancora non è stato
contagiato dal Revenge Toruism, lo sarà presto
se compirà lo sforzo sia di rivivere nel mondo
esterno sia di scoprire nuovi posti. T&S

I admit it: I have never been more
fascinated by the myth of the Mal-
dives vacation. Maybe it’s because
“I’m escaping to the Maldives” has
become almost a figure of speech, a
phantom escape to a faraway place
that is always seen only in photos:
sea, beach, sea, beach, sea.
Yet, in this life there is nothing bet-
ter than recanting.

l’entusiasmo generato su Insta-
gram dalle mie foto. È come se
ora, forse per una sorta di rivalsa
sulla vita e sulle circostanze di
questi ultimi due anni, si senta
più che mai il forte desiderio
di realizzare la fantomatica
“bucket list”, la lista dei posti da
visitare nella vita.
Di realizzare il sogno.
E le Maldive, il sogno, te lo rega-
lano davvero.
Ho scoperto che tutto ciò ha un
nome, lo chiamano il “revenge
travel”, il viaggio della rivincita,
la voglia incontenibile di fare
tutto ciò che non si era mai fatto
prima. Un altro aspetto inte-
ressante che ho scoperto è che,

piuttosto giovane - nasce nel
2013 - che ruota intorno a

nostro viaggio virtuale, una

of the Atmosphere Hotels
& Resorts Group, a rath-
er young Indo-Maldivian
chain-born in 2013-that re-
volves around a key concept:

One note that I jotted down
that I sug gest always remem-
bering: we tested resorts-even
super luxury-all inclusive,
and this is a feature that,
in the Maldives, is not to be
overlooked, because I learned
that extras can affect the
final bill in a dare I say
dramatic way!
I chose to try three Water
Villas, the famous water
villas, one for each atoll, in
ascending order of budget.
Before we begin our virtual
journey, a premise: in all
three atolls the hospitality,

Lobigili, the island of love
In Maldivian, Lobigili
means “Island of Love.”
And, on this little island
surrounded by coral reefs
you do, indeed, feel as if
wrapped in a little pink
cloud. Not least because pink

than 80 percent are women).
Lobigili is the youngest
island. It opened in March
2022 and is “adults only.” A
bridge connects it to its sister

Mentre per alcuni viaggi non lo trovo indispensabile, per le Maldive il consiglio è
quello di affidarsi a un fidato tour operator che vi affianchi e supporti in qualsi-
asi tipo di situazione. Noi siamo partiti con Carrèblu di Torino, un’istituzione nel
settore. Gabriella Piazza, la fondatrice, è un’ex archeologa appassionata di viaggi
che mi ha spiegato come il suo lavoro sia molto simile a quello dello psicologo:
in tanti anni di esperienza, bisogna essere in grado di capire i desideri e i biso-
gni dei viaggiatori per indirizzarli verso la scelta giusta, che spesso non riguarda

ber since 2003 and have enjoyed many incredible
stays in some of the world’s most fabulous proper-
ties across the world.
It’s usually the first website I will visit before I go
to any new location, and in Hawaii (joining as the
50th [last] state of the USA in 1959 along with
Alaska) there are two luxurious properties on the
island of O’ahu, both in the TripAdvisor top 10
lands in total, but the four most well-known
are Big Island, Maui, Kauai & O’ahu. If, like
me, you were a fan of the hit TV series ‘The
White Lotus’, then you might be interested to
know that this was filmed at the Four Seasons
Resort Maui at Wailea, one of the other main
islands. The (Hawaiian) state capital is Ho-
nolulu (also the largest city), situated on the
island of O’ahu and it’s here that I’m showcas-
ing two high-end properties, The Halekulani
in Waikiki and The Kahala Resort & Spa -

The first is the Halekulani (means the house befitting heaven) in the
Waikiki neighbourhood, set in five acres of lush garden. It has reigned
over this prime stretch of golden beach for more than a century but
has benefitted from a renovation in 2021. Synonymous with gracious
Hawaiian hospitality and history (the hotel was one of the first and
finest in Hawaii), the property features over 450 rooms & suites,
making the most of the breathtaking ocean views, spread across five
different buildings, connected by courtyards.

The second LHW property is set on a 800-foot private beach, a
secluded luxury hideaway in one of O’ahu’s most upscale residential
areas, but still only ten minutes away from the hustle and bustle of

baristi ‘buttadentro’ in ogni vicoletto.
Nessun giudizio potrebbe essere più
superficiale. Ibiza è, oggi, la destina-
zione perfetta anche per un turismo
adulto che cerca il divertimento ma,
allo stesso tempo, desidera godersi
una destinazione incantevole e super
cool, con mare e spiagge splendide.

due sono le location su cui
puntare. Potevamo non provarle
entrambe? Sono vicinissime - a
Playa D’En Bossa, una di fronte
all’altra, a soli 10 minuti d’auto
dall’aeroporto -, entrambe hanno
5 stelle e fanno parte di Palladium
Group, ma sono molto diverse nel
concept e nell’atmosfera ricreata.
Così come lo sono anche per il ge-
nere musicale che le caratterizza in
ogni dettaglio. Se fosse un test psico-
logico, ne emergerebbero profili ben
distinti. A noi è piaciuto dividerci
tra le due e nulla vi vieta di farlo, per
vivere due vacanze in una.

are the locations to focus on.
Could we not try them both?
They are very close - in Playa
D’En Bossa, across the street from
each other, just a 10-minute drive
from the airport -, both have 5
stars and are part of Palladium
Group, but they are very different
in concept and atmosphere recreat-
ed. So too are they different in the
genre of music that characterizes
them in every detail. If it were a
psychological test, distinct profiles
would emerge. We enjoyed split-
ting between the two and there is
nothing to stop you from doing so,
to experience two vacations in one.

Tips ...il mito di Es Vedrà

Di posti e calette da visitare a Ibiza ce ne sono tanti: noi sia-
mo stati colpiti da Es Vedrà, sulla costa sud-occidentale. Il
panorama al tramonto è davvero incantevole: dalla scogliera
all’orizzonte si staglia nel mare una roccia imponente in uno
scenario da cartolina. È un luogo moto spirituale, si dice che
sia il terzo punto più magnetico della Terra. Addirittura, alcuni
dicono che fosse l’isola della mitologia greca delle Sirene, cre-
ature che attiravano i marinai con il loro canto per farli nau-
fragare. Se sia vero non lo sappiamo, ma certo è che questo

di risvegliarsi in un’oasi
di lusso, benessere ed
esclusività dove assa-
porare atmosfere esotiche e il fascino
mediorientale di una terra come
l’Egitto con un tocco di stile italiano.
Eppure, al Domina Coral Bay di
Sharm El Sheik la prima sensazione
è proprio quella di essere trasportati
in altro mondo, in una piccola città

a realtà. Il Domina Coral Bay è l’essenza di Sharm...

milione di metri quadrati fra il deser-
to roccioso e il mar Rosso, di fronte

In fondo anche la genesi di questo
villaggio ha i contorni della leg-
genda. Iniziata come sogno e finita

fine degli anni ‘90 Ernesto Preatoni
acquistò un pezzo di deserto dal
governatore del Sud Sinai (incredu-
lo che qualcuno potesse avventarsi
in un’impresa così folle!), quello
dell’imprenditore milanese sembrò
ai più un volo verso l’ignoto.
“Fate quello che volete, tanto è deser-
to” disse a Preatoni il governatore,
pensando di trovarsi di fronte alla

richiesta balzana di un personaggio
eccentrico e sopra le righe. E invece
– ça va sans dire – quel sogno diven-
ne realtà: Preatoni diede vita a un
luogo unico e magico, creando a sua
immagine e somiglianza un villaggio
che sarebbe diventato negli anni irri-
petibile e iconico, nel quale vivere tra
relax, lusso e tanto divertimento.
Il primo opening risale al 1994.
Da allora il Domina Coral Bay ne ha
fatta di strada, affermandosi come
prestigioso resort e come uno dei
luoghi simbolo dell’intera zona.
Anzi, più propriamente come “il re-
sort”, quello che ha inventato Sharm
come meta turistica d’eccellenza.
E chiunque ne varchi la soglia
non può che subirne il fascino,
vivendo le sue tante anime.
Il termine “resort” in fondo, qui,
è davvero riduttivo: con 8 hotel,
6 ristoranti à la carte, 3 ristoranti
a buffet e 3 beach restaurant forse
dovremmo parlare di un vero e
proprio paese. D’altronde c’è una
medina, un supermercato, un
centro medico, una grande Spa,
una palestra, un Casinò, decine di
bar, persino una via dello shop-
ping… Ed è così grande che al suo

After all, the genesis of this village also has
the contours of legend. Started as a dream
and ended as a reality. From bet to inter-
national success. When in the late 1990s
Ernesto Preatoni bought a piece of desert
from the governor of South Sinai (incred-
ulous that anyone would venture into such
a crazy venture!), that of the Milanese
entrepreneur seemed to most a flight into
the unknown.
“Do whatever you want, it’s deserted any-
way,” the governor told Preatoni, thinking
he was faced with the whimsical request of
an eccentric and over-the-top character.
And instead - ça va sans dire - that dream
became reality: Preatoni gave life to a
unique and magical place, creating in his
image and likeness a village that would
become over the years unrepeatable and
iconic, in which to live among relaxation,
luxury and lots of fun.
The first opening was in 1994. Since then

è un paradiso per gli appassionati
