General presentation
Advanced applications and efficient information management onboard and on the ground
FlySmart with Airbus provides a comprehensive EFB solution. It comprises a common set of applications with a homogeneous look and feel, and a common set of ground tools for the management of information onboard Airbus aircraft. Airbus EFB is supported by a modular and flexible airborne infrastructure based on fully integrated hardware (Class 3*). It can also be hosted on partially integrated platforms (Class 1 or 2*).

The Less Paper in the Cockpit applications suite was the initial step towards a paperless cockpit. An updated LPC will now become a key application for your EFB, allowing:

e-documentation modules
G These
permit onboard consultation, in electronic format, of the required regulatory operational documentation
G The continuously upgraded HMI allows efficient Electronic dispatch, update and consultation access to information of operating manuals, through e-documentation G Inter-module communication permits automatic modules (FCOM, MEL and airline designed consideration of the impact of inoperative MEL documents) items in the performance modules calculations. G Optimized performance computation through e-performance modules (takeoff, landing, weight & balance and in-flight).
e-performance modules
A fast, easy and accurate way of performance computation:

Maximize takeoff weight or flex temperature Facilitate aircraft trimming A specific user-friendly screen has been developed for each performance calculation module (takeoff, landing, weight & balance and in-flight).
FCOM consultation with filtering of the documentation on ECAM warning, advanced bookmark management, three layers of information, etc...

Reduce revision and update dispatch times Improve technical data accuracy Reduce the documentation dispatch and management costs
An LPC administrator uses ground tools to prepare the information used in the cockpit by the flight crew. Flight crews use airborne tools to access to the information dispatched by the EFB administrator and relevant to each specific aircraft (tailored for each registration number).
Fast integration of last-minute changes (e.g. runway length reduction, meteorological events), which could otherwise cause delays Accurate calculation of performance, which eliminates the conservatism which has to be built into traditional TOW tables, and can increase maximum takeoff weight by as much as 1,000 kg which increases revenue opportunities Significant engine life extension by the use of the optimal flex takeoff temperature thereby significantly reducing engine maintenance costs.
Regulation status The Airbus LPC applications suite installed on a laptop has already been approved by several Aviation Authorities (JAA, FAA, TCCA) as an EFB Class 1* compliant solution.

eLogbook
Efficient and cost effective management of maintenance and pilot reports
Compared to the traditional paper technical logbook, the eLogbook delivers: data entry, eliminating errors in manual transcription and reducing techlog management costs
G Standardized reports improving data accuracy with faster access and enabling quicker fault identification G Simplified
Application scope
The eLogbook serves two main groups within an airline :
G G
Flight operations (standard defect reporting) Line maintenance and maintenance control centre (aircraft status management and recording of maintenance tasks)
Seamless and efficient communication in real time between pilots and maintenance mechanics Combined with AIRMAN, the eLogbook provides the following uniquenesses: Single central repository and easy history tracking for all reports and maintenance tasks using existing AIRMAN database
G G G
Main functions
G G G
Capture of standardized logbook entries Follow-up of aircraft technical status Full integration and data synchronization with AIRMAN taking advantage of its troubleshooting recommendations High level of customization for operating mode and basic reports Link to Airbus Minimum Equipment List viewer to evaluate impacts on dispatch Electronic signature management Scheduled maintenance through work orders
G G G G
Full benefit of AIRMANs correlations and recommendations to troubleshoot the aircraft Integration with maintenance management processes
The eLogbook offers the opportunity to make savings by eliminating the cost of managing a paper techlog, reducing delays and cancellations and contributing to an improved dispatch process. It is compliant with the operational approval requirements of the local authorities. The eLogbook is part of the FlySmart with Airbus offer.

Airborne infrastructure
A modular architecture designed to meet your current and future needs
Aircraft/ground communication channels Server units Each onboard integrated terminal consists of: One display unit with touch screen and G One processing unit G In addition, one keyboard unit and integrated pointing device are installed in the cockpit The Airbus EFB applications can also be hosted on partially integrated platforms (Class 1 or 2*).
G
The onboard network architecture comprise: Electronic displays G Network access socket G Aircraft/ground communication link G Server units Flexible, FlySmart with Airbus architecture enables you to configure and select the part you need.
G
Electronic displays
Airbus developed a fully integrated (Class 3*) terminal for pilots, in accordance with the Airbus cockpit environment. It is designed not to hide and not to attract the eyes versus the other cockpit instruments when the pilot is seated at the reference pilot eye position.
Network access
The Network access provides pilots with wired and wireless connection to access the EFB servers on the aircraft. These access points are:
G
USB ports to allow pilots to upload and download data to and from their EFB. This also allows the connection of a printer or any other device (DVD, CD drivers,). These ports are located on the Airbus Class 3* display unit.

RJ45 plugs to connect computers to the EFB on board network (pilot or airline laptop, DVD,). These connectors are located on the Captains and First Officers lateral panels. Other connectors are located close to the third occupant station, and cabin door 1. Cabin Wireless LAN Unit (CWLU) to connect wireless-enabled mobile computers to the EFB on board network during flight and on the ground (pilots, cabin and maintenance crews laptop). Three CWLUs are provided to cover the communication within the aircraft
Server units
The airborne network is comprised of several servers compliant with ARINC standards in order to:
G
Secure the interface between the aircraft avionics systems and the FlySmart with Airbus platform the communication channels
G Access G G G
Perform data updates and software loads from the ground Read and store the real-time data acquired from the avionics Host FlySmart with Airbus applications (Flight Operations, Maintenance & Engineering, Cabin, Passengers)...
Aircraft/ground communication
Airbus EFB solutions can communicate with your ground-based airline information system in order to allow the easy transfer of data for flight operations and EFB update and maintenance purposes. For on ground communication, the Terminal Wireless LAN Unit (TWLU) provides wireless communication in accordance with ARINC 763 and based on 802.11 standard between the aircraft and the airport wireless terminal (Gatelink). In-flight communications are supported by SATCOM in narrow band (2.4 / 9.6 Kbps) and wider band (64 Kbps and future evolutions), via the L-band INMARSAT satellite network. Airbus is also developing solutions based on mobile telecommunications technology (GSM/GPRS/UMTS).
