Galvanized pipes
Galvanizing is done according to the EN 10240 standard which requires the pipes to meet various qualitative levels of use, being produced by hot-dipping in a completely automised plant. Galvanizing carried out by Dalmine conforms to the A.1 level, qualitatively the highest required by the European standards. The zinc used is an electrolytic type with 99.995 percent purity. Pipes galvanized in this manner are suitable for carrying drinkable water. TenarisDalmine galvanized tubes using the new lead-free galvanization technology are conform to the EN 10240-A1 norm and the Ministry of Health Decree 6 April 2004 N.174, affecting materials and objects used to distribute water for human consumption.

Thermo pipes
In civil and industrial installations, it is necessary for the color of the pipe to identify the fluid carried. Dalmine has created Thermo: steel pipe, coated with epoxy powder, which means no painting on site by the installer and even easier and safer identification of usage. The coating is applied by fusing epoxy powder onto the surface of the grit-blasted pipe, preheated to about 200C.
The coating, with a minimum thickness of 50 microns, gives a working temperature of between -10 to +110C, and has excellent adhesive properties and resistance to abrasion; allowing bending with a standard portable tool, with a mandrel having a minimum bending radius of 6 times the external diameter of the pipe.

Dalmine Polycoat
External coating in extruded polyethylene layers
according to the UNI 9099 standard
This particular type of coating is produced on a sheath extrusion line producing a coating with outstanding adherence and a perfectly uniform thickness. The product is able to satisfy the demands of the most particular users. The coating offers a maximum guarantee in terms of: - high resistance to corrosion - longer service life - long life insulation (the dielectric continuity test is conducted in the factory at 25.000Volts - for bitumen coated pipes the corresponding test is at 10.000Volts). - very high resistance to nearby metal structures - able to work in highly corrosive environments - easy cold bending at the construction site - easy to restore the coating at joints. The coating is applied on the hot finished surface, after blasting, when the pipes are used for carrying gas, or for water pipes on the galvanized surface, according to the EN 10240 A.1 standard, and if requested with certificates.

Use
In places where there is danger of fire or explosion, electric plant installations " for protection in case of explosion (AD-PE)" in accord with D.P.R. 27-4-1955 n.547 and law n.186 of 1-3-1968, that stipulates that electric plant must be built according to the benchmarks detailed in C.E.I 64-2, pamphlet no. 5964C
Certification
A "Certificate of compliance to the order" in accord with what indicated in point 2.1 of the EN 10204 standard.
18
Packaging
Pipes with external diameters up to 219 mm are packed in hexagonal bundles held by four 1 1/4" wide steel straps,
with a grey seal bearing the Dalmine logo. Each bundle is made up according to the following composition.
Lengths 6 m - The bundle weights are nominal, the actual weights being printed on a tag tied to each bundle. FM = FRETZ MOON - SS = SEAMLESS
Lengths 12 m - The bundle weights are nominal, the actual weights being printed on a tag tied to each bundle.

Installation hints
Final inspection
Before putting the pipes into use it is normal practise to carry out a hydraulic test at 1.5 times the nominally allowed pressure for the type of pipe chosen. Whenever this test proves negative, in the case of a leak which would indicate some defect in the pipe and not at the joint, contact the Sales Department. If there is any danger of freezing, empty the plant.
Threading
Manual screw-dies or threading machines can be used with equally good results. Machining requires the use of dies with sharp chasers, a good flow of cutting oil and very good alignment between the axis of the die and the pipe. Care should be taken in choosing the cutting depth per pass.
Pressure
The allowable pressures are determined by the constructor or end user, depending on the kind of fluid, on the safety coefficients, regulations, norms or calculation codes, which the installer must satisfy.
lint, and by using the correct amount of sealing product. Alternatively, by carefully wrapping a teflon band in the direction of the screw thread, taking care to maintain the tension. The steel couplings, or the cast iron fittings, should be reasonably tight when screwing.
Bending
Bending can be obtained by standard, portable tooling with mandrel having a
Threading coupling
Water or gas tightness is achieved by wrapping the threads with hemp or tow
20
Welding
An oxy-acetylene torch is recommended with the following settings. Torch: gas flow in l/hr between 65 and 80 times the wall thickness of the pipe in mm, welding speed of 3.5 m/h on average. Welding wire: diameter not less than half the pipe wall thickness, plus 1mm.. Preparatione of the pipe ends for wall thicknesses not greater than 3mm;square cut, deburred. for wall thicknesses greater than 3mm; 45 bevel with a grinder up to about half the wall thickness.
Lay down
- Avoid completely any contact with plaster and mixed porous or materials, e.g., mixtures of wood and concrete, tile, etc. - Prepare mortar and cement with good quality concrete, washed siliceous sand and gravel, and clear, pure water. Never use plaster or anti freezing mixtures, as the salts, such as chlorides and sulphates, are particularly corrosive agents. - Sink the pipe completely into the mortar or concrete mix, which should be thick and homogenous, that is of only one type, not mixed.
If there is any doubt whatsoever that the above suggestions have not been carried out, do not hesitate to wrap the pipe in tar paper, or a similar product before sinking the pipe into place.
Dalmine Thermo
Damage to the coating in the welded area, or any accidental damage occurring when moving or laying down the pipe can easily be repaired with cold setting epoxy resins of the same type in site with a spatula or brush.
21
Dalmine Polycoat
Pipes coated in extruded polyethylene can be threaded easily, without removing the coating. While using the threading machine use the appropriate pipe jaws, however, in case of emergency, the normal jaws can be used, taking care to hold the pipe firmly. - A bending radius of up tosix times the diameter of the pipe can readily be achieved using a chuck with jaws of a sufficient size. - In the area surrounding the joint the coating can be repaired with thermosetting bands, cold- or hot-setting tape.
Istallation procedure
Before welding slide the sleeve over the pipe end and position it about 30 cm from the weld area. After welding clean the surface well by sandblasting or brushing.
Preheat the metal surface to about 60 C and the place where the sleeve will go to about 40 C. Adjust the torch to produce a soft, steady, yellow flame.
Remove the sleeve's inner protective release paper and centre the sleeve over the joint, allowing at least an 80 cm overlap.
22
Beginning in the centre, heat the sleeve, working out towards the ends. Continue until you see the mastic beginning to come out of the sleeve ends.
The coating may also be restored using tape. There are both single and double types of tape available on the market. The double tape consists of tape for insulation and for physical protection. Other systems include using primer.
