Dear Program Director,

It is with the greatest pleasure that I write this letter in support of Dr. Ahmed Abdelmagid for a position in your residency program. This letter is based on review of his previous evaluations and on my personal acquaintance. He waived his rights to see this recommendation letter. Dr. Abdelmagid was an outstanding undergraduate student at the University of Khartoum, the leading institution in Sudan and the Middle East area. He maintained an excellent academic record throughout medical school until his graduation in 2007. Beside academics, he was a vibrant member of the medical students society; he participated in the yearly medical missions to underprivileged rural areas. He also helped organize educational seminars and workshops. During his postgraduate training as a house physician, his responsibilities spanned to cover a wide array of diverse and complicated medical problems, including assessment and management of patients in the emergency rooms, surgical operations as well as ambulatory and hospital care. Dr. Abdelmagid did not limit his abilities to the clinical aspect of medicine, he also proved to be an excellent researcher and scholar. This was clearly reflected in his work as a research fellow at Khartoum Fertility Center, Sudan. He successfully conducted an outcome study about women with polycystic ovary syndrome undergoing laparoscopic ovary drilling. He is not without familiarity and experience in regards to the American health care system. He recently finished, with praise and credit from his supervising attending, an externship at Detroit Medical Center, Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Abdelmagid distinguished himself as a young, enthusiastic individual who works very hard to achieve his goals; this was clearly reflected upon passing USMLE examinations with high scores from first attempt. On a personal note, Ahmed is an amiable, keen, considerate, and easy to get along with individual. It is my expectation that he will contribute significantly to the residency program with which he matches. I believe he will be a great resident, academician and exemplary future-practicing physician. In summary, I consider Dr. Abdelmagid an excellent candidate and I would give him my highest recommendation for training at your program.
