INDIAN COUNCIL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH (Ministry of Human Resource Development) Fellowships (Senior Fellowships and General Fellowships) ICSSR invites proposals for financial support through Fellowships General (Post Doctoral) & Senior (Senior Social Scientist) for the year 2011-12. The research proposals may belong to anyone of the social science disciplines or may be interdisciplinary in nature. The recognized disciplines are : (i) Economics / Commerce /Management / Business Administration (ii) Sociology and Social Anthropology / Social Work/Demography / Gender Studies / Criminology; (iii) Political Science / International Relations / Geography / Public Administration; (iv) Psychology / Education; Linguistics / Law & Other. Invitation of proposals for financial support under above disciplines includes for Northeast Region (NER) also. The applicants are requested to indicate under which clubbing of disciplines their proposals falls. ELIGIBILITY For Senior & General fellowships a scholar must have Ph.D. Degree and good number of publication and the CV must indicate capability of independent research; 2. Age: For General Fellowship-50 years, and for Senior Fellowship-there is no age bar; (v)

AFFILIATION The applicant shall be affiliated to Universities / P.G. Colleges / Institutions recognized and

funded by Central/State Government. In case of other institutions/NGOs/Registered Societies, the applicant will have to furnish additional details in accordance with Annexure V of the Research Project Booklet. Affiliation will be granted to only such institutions/NGOs which satisfy the conditions laid down in our format.

VALUE AND DURATION The value of the Senior Fellowship is Rs.20,000/- p.m. and Rs.50,000/- as contingency grant per annum. In case of employed scholar, salary will be protected. The value of the General Fellowship is Rs.18,000/- p.m. and Rs.30,000/- as contingency grant per annum. In case of employed scholar, salary will be protected. Maximum duration of a Senior and General Fellowships is two years. Fellowships with Salary Protection The applicants shall have put in at least two years continues service in the institution before they apply and the institution shall certify that it will maintain their lien on the post during the period of the fellowship and allow them to return to it after the period of fellowship is over. Only the employees of those institutes which follow UGC / Govt. norms will be considered. (Please enclosed latest pay slip) LAST DATE Last date for submitting research proposals for GENERAL AND SENIOR Fellowships is 30th June 2011. Applications, which are received after the deadline date or are incomplete in any respect will be rejected. The proposal which qualifies the first round of screening by experts will be recommended for a interaction with the subject experts. A communication in this regard shall be sent to the applicants whose proposals will qualify for interaction. We expect to communicate final decision to successful candidates by August/September 2011. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Complete application, as per the prescribed format, for all categories would include; (i) five copies of research proposal, (ii) five copies of bio-data in prescribed format, (iii) Letter of consent from the affiliating organization, and (vi) document containing the profile of the affiliating organization, only in case of NGO. In case of General fellowship, Consent letter and Bio-Data of the supervisor including his phone number, and short summary of Ph.D. thesis (only one copy) is also required. should apply through proper channel. The broad disciplines recognized for such support are; Economics, Commerce, Management, Business Administration, Education, Psychology, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology and Social Science aspects of Anthropology, Demography, Geography, Law and Linguistics. The priority areas for consideration are: (Health, Education, Environment and Sustainable Development, Information/Communication Technology, Gender Studies, Centre-State Relations and National Security). Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships are awarded by the ICSSR on the basis of selection through an interview to be held at the office of the ICSSR, New Delhi. North East category of fellowships is earmarked for candidates from North-East Region or who are registered in North Eastern Universities. Seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes as per Government of India Rules. B Institutional Doctoral Fellowships

Twenty-three ICSSR Institutes have Ph.D Programmes and ICSSR gives grants for fellowships. The total number of Institutional Doctoral fellowships are 76. These fellowships are awarded by the Institutes on the basis of selections made by the institute concerned. For details of the list of research institutes and the number of fellowships from ICSSR at each institutes, visit our website http://www.icssr.org/. Scholars are advised to directly contact the Institute for application procedure. Eligibility for Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships: 1. Postgraduate in Social Sciences with at least 55% marks. 2. The candidate should have cleared National Eligibility Test (NET for JRF/Lecturership)/M.Phil/ or two research articles published in reputed social sciences journals (reprints to be attached). 3. The applicant must be registered for Ph.D. Those who are not registered need not apply (Those scholars who are in the last year of research, need not apply).

Age: The upper age limit for a doctoral fellow is below 35 years as on 1st July 2011 (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST). For teachers and professional staff of research institutes holding regular posts the upper age limit would be 45 years. In exceptional cases, where a candidate is found to have outstanding ability, the age limit may be relaxed marginally at the discretion of ICSSR. Value: The selected candidates will be paid a fellowship amount of Rs.12,000/ per month for

In case of an employed scholar his/her salary will be protected. In addition, a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/ per annum will also be paid. Duration of a salaryprotected fellowship will, in no case, be more than two years. Only short listed candidates will be called for interview. Applicants not in receipt of call letters need not correspond unnecessarily. 8.Ph.D. registration particulars: Title of the work, Supervisors Name, Date of enrolment (certificate to be attached), Institutional Affiliation (Name, Address and Telephone details must be attached. Kindly note that the scholar will be allowed to join, in case of selection, in the university/institute, where they are actually registered). (a) Abstract in 150 words-This should spell out in precise terms the goals, method and expected outcomes of the research.. Description of the Proposed Study-Provide conceptual and empirical background and foundations of the work by situating it in contemporary research undertaken in the concerned field in not more than 3 pages. Research Questions-Provide the key issues/questions/objectives/hypotheses to be investigated in precise terms in not more than 1 page. Review of Literature- Provide one or two pages list on the topic of research, Research Strategy-Provide a clear outline of the plan of study and methodological details to respond to the research questions in 2 pages. This should be in terms of the phases with description of each phase and its link with the other phases. Current Status of Research-Provide a statement in 150 words about the progress made in the course of proposed research. Attach copies of your published/unpublished writing on the topic. Significance of the Proposed Research- Indicate the linkages of research with society, policy and discipline in 150 words. Schedule of Proposed Work-Describe the time frame with indication of activities to be undertaken in 1 page and specific difficulties envisaged and plan to handle them. Details on the above lines have to be prepared by all and attached with the application.
