Most Holy Trinity Sunday

June 19, 2011 Prayer for a New Bishop
Almighty God, send your Holy Spirit to guide those who will advise the Holy Father in the selection of the next Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno. May he have the zeal of Saint Paul, the priestly gifts of Saint John Vianney, the wisdom of a loving father and brother, and most of all, the heart of your Son, Jesus. We ask that the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, and Saint Therese, our patroness, join us in this prayer, which we make through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. -- John 3:16a

From the Pastors Desk

Dear parishioners, Thanks to all of you who participated in our Annual Pentecost Family Picnic last Sunday, especially to the families who brought all their children and even invited their extended families to join us for fellowship, food and fun. It is truly a joy to spend time together as brothers and sisters outside of the regular Sunday Mass to build up our friendship and to encourage one another in their faith journey. I would like to invite those who are have gone through our parishs marriage preparation retreat in the last 27 years to next Sundays 10:30 am Mass and the Marriage & Family Reunion Potluck afterwards to give thanks to the Lord for the gift of those who have been part of this ministry, especially Ralph & Jeri Esquer. I would also like to remind all parish groups, and those who celebrated their First Communion this past Easter Season and their families to the Corpus Christ procession which we will begin right after the 5:00 pm Mass also next Sunday. Let us never cease to praise the Lord for his Real Presence among us. Sincerely, Fr. Peter Quinto, RCJ

Reflexin

Gospel Reflection
GRACE AND ETERNAL LIFE Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven't we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people? Indeed, haven't we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining . . . impatient . . . quick to anger. How lucky for Moses--how lucky for all of us--that God is exactly the opposite! And we don't even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God's forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace--and in God's favor--the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ's grace on us along with God's love and the Holy Spirit's. "Rejoice," he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus.

Feast of Faith

Liturgy and the Holy Trinity

The Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. We believe that God is one, yet three: total unity and rich diversity. God is not a monolith, but a dynamic community of persons, a perfect, loving harmony of three. And the liturgy is the work of the Trinity. We begin all our liturgical celebrations with the sign of the cross, a reminder of our Trinitarian baptism, and the simplest of all professions of our faith. We believe that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we gather in the name of this triune God. Throughout the Mass, we address our prayers to God the Father, through Christ our Lord, in the Spirit's power. And the Father hears our prayer, transforming bread and wine into the Body and Blood of his Son by the Holy Spirit. The Church is "the sacrament of trinitarian communion" (Sacramentum Caritatis, 16). It is the Trinity who holds us together as well. In the words of Saint Cyprian, we are "a people made one by the unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (quoted in Sacramentum Caritatis, 16). --Corinna Laughlin Page 4

Stewardship/Co-Responsalibilidad
Jennifer went on her first retreat. Exhausted from looking after young children and her ailing mother-in-law, she counted on some rest! She hadn't counted on the silence of the retreat weekend, and uneasiness began to rise in her. She was used to constant noise. By mid-afternoon Jennifer was panicking and ready to leave. She shared her distress to the retreat director. "What are you running from, Jennifer?" he asked quietly. Jennifer blurted out, "God!" She startled herself, realizing there was no quiet for God's voice in her life. Jennifer relaxed into the silence. At the end of the retreat she listened carefully to the stories of Elijah, who heard God in a tiny breeze, and Peter, who let wind and waves distract him so that he sank in the water. Jennifer made two changes in her life. The TV was only turned on for certain programs, and she made time simply to be alone with God in weekly Eucharistic Adoration.

Sounds of Silence

Living Stewardship

Make room for a silent time and place in your life for God to speak to your heart. Start slowly--say fifteen minutes twice a week, then increase to fifteen minutes once a day. Let nothing else intrude on this special time.
