NCPA Legends gives you an evening with the King of Rock n Roll

Relive the Elvis magic with three Elvis movies from 6th to 8th June 2011 followed by a tribute concert by Gary Lawyer on 11th June, only at the NCPA

For Immediate Release Mumbai, May 2011: To celebrate the King of Rock n Rolls 76th birth anniversary this year, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Mumbai, Indias premiere arts and culture institution, in collaboration with BSPCA & Tata Sons, presents NCPA Legends A tribute to the king of Rock N Roll, in a four-day event featuring a tribute by none other than Gary Lawyer, on June 11, at the NCPA and documentaries on the ultimate rock n roll legend Elvis Presley, from June 6-8.

Discover the enigmatic personality that was Elvis Presley up-close in four phases of his life: the 1950s, 1960s, during his movie career and his concert years. Die hard Elvis fans are in for a treat in the city on 11th June, 2011, as Gary Lawyer the man with a golden voice, pays a tribute to the King, rendering some of the best known Elvis hits. Mathew and Filipe Keyboard, Clarry Devisser Bass, Adrian DSouza Drums. The NCPA will also present an Elvis Film Festival titled The King in Cinemascope from 6th to 8th June 2011 respectively. NCPA Legends (details below) is the new NCPA annual programme that will focus on tributes presenting legendary artistes every year. The King in Cinemascope from 6th to 8th June 2011, at 6:30 pm, at Little Theatre, will feature three short film documentaries viz. The King at the Movies Jailhouse Rock, The King in Concert This Is Elvis and The King Revealed! for free, as entry is reserved on first-come-first-serve basis (NCPA

members get preferential seating). Ups and downs in Elvis career, his kindness and generosity, his human frailties are all brought to light in these documentaries. On 11th June 2011, at 7:00 pm at Tata Theatre, Gary Lawyer will perform some iconic Elvis songs. With an admirable career path, performing concerts all over India and abroad to packed houses and five albums to his credit, Gary really needs no introduction! He is regarded as finest Indian artiste in the field of western popular music. A bass baritone, who sings just as easily in the tenor range, Gary is equally comfortable with every genre of music - be it rock, pop, jazz, country or folk. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khushroo Suntook, Chairman, NCPA, said, 34 years may have passed since Elvis Presley passed away but his music still continues to be very popular. The NCPA is honored to pay tribute to this legend through documentaries and a performance by a popular musician like Gary Lawyer. It is through festivals like these that we aim to highlight NCPAs initiative to give impulsion to a variety of performances that appeal to different audiences.

Two exciting contests for the audiences form another exciting aspect of this festival. The first one being for the best dressed Elvis and the second, a quiz on the great performer. This contest has been organised in association with the Elvis India Fan Club that has also partnered with the NCPA to bring these films to you. Lucky people from the audience will win exciting surprise gifts. Adding a special touch to the festival, NCPA will serve an Americana menu on the day of the concert.

Elvis Movies 6th June, 2011 The King at the Movies Jailhouse Rock, Filmed in black-and-white, its the first movie that comes to mind when Elvis and movies are mentioned in the same sentence. Elvis plays bad boy Vince Everett whos in jail and turns his life over to become a rock n roll superstar. This 1957 flick became one of the most successful films of The Kings career thanks to classic songs like Jailhouse Rock, Treat Me Nice and (Youre So Square) Baby I Dont Care. 7th June, 2011 The King in Concert This Is Elvis Fantastic and dazzling this biography concert movie and rare behind-the-scenes footage finds Elvis at the peak of his powers. Fans get to see him perform live all the essential hits from the early rock n roll (Hound Dog, Dont Be Cruel) to the ballads (Love Me Tender, Cant Help Falling In Love) to his personal favourites (Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes). 8th June, 2011 The King Revealed! Elvis by the Presleys For the first time, The Kings wife Priscilla and daughter Lisa Marie offer an intimate look at Elvis life in this riveting documentary. Different aspects of Elviss life, including his tours, his time in Hollywood and his home life, are depicted with the insight that only his family can bring. His career ups and downs, his kindness and generosity and his human frailties are all brought to light as well as a reflection on his place in entertainment history and his enduring legacy as the worlds greatest entertainer. About NCPA Legends NCPA Legends will focus on presenting the Rock N Roll, Pop, Rock, Jazz and other forms of contemporary music of great Legends in the world of western music. This annual concert, held in June every year, will put the spotlight on one great musician. A contemporary musician (or musical group) will perform the music of the chosen Legend, with flair, and panache. A series of satellite events around the principal musical event will be held, which could take the form of film shows, discussions, Listening Sessions, and these will be held, both at the NCPA and at other appropriate locations such as colleges, workshops, clubs etc.
