00 Installationguide and FAQ

1. Installation: For installing the software you must have administrative rights. 1.1. Installation of GFS-Light: Be sure, that older versions of GFS-Light are uninstalled! Unzip the downloaded archive in any folder you want to (apart from C:\GFSLight). You can delete this folder after the installation. Start the VASsetup.exe from the folder SetupDir and follow the further instructions. Reboot your PC Choose the language With Start Programs VAS GFSLight VAS Language you can choose the language you want to work with. However you will need a base-CD of a VAS 5051B in the corresponding language.

2. Startup without diagnostic communications:

2.1. Starting the GFS-Light: The GFS-Light can be started with its link in the startmenu: Start Programs VAS GFSLight Programmstart. Installation of the Brand-CD(s): Brand-CDs can be installed using Jump CD-Update/Installation, as in older versions.

3. Startup with diagnostic communication:

3.1. General notes: For a working diagnostic communication the base-system of the VAS 5163 has to be installed to the following folder: C:\Softing\DBaseSys. Starting the GFS-Light: Check first, if the ECU-files in the folder C:\Softing\DBaseSys\EDIABAS\ECU\ are newer as the ones of the GFS-Light (C:\GFSLight\home\dat.ger\diagbus\sgdaten\). If they are newer, delete all files of the folder C:\GFSLight\home\dat.ger\diagbus\sgdaten\ before starting the GFSLight! Otherwise the newer files of the VAS 5163 will be overwritten. Installation of the Brand-CD(s): Brand-CDs can be installed using Jump CD-Update/Installation, as in older versions.

5. Notes, Troubleshooting:
5.1. 5.2. The order in which GFS-Light and VAS 5163 are installed doesnt matter. The following files might not have been uninstalled, if you get the message Error Update/Installation while installing a brand-CD.

Please delete those files manually. 5.3. Starting the GFS-Light and getting the error 800.65 although the VAS 5163 is installed properly, could be caused by the following circumstances: The installation path of the VAS 5163 base-system is not the same as described under 3.1. The vehicle is not connected or ignition is turned off. More than one EDIC-device is configured (see 3.1). The registry key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\VAG\ENV\ECU hasnt been updated automatically. Please change the value to: C:\Softing\DBaseSys\EDIABAS\ECU Known Issues: With activated diagnostic communication on a car with ASAM-ECUs it could be, that the gfs-light crashes by ending it. The trouble codes will not be deleted. We will try to fix this issue with version 11.01. On operating systems with another language as English, the gfs-light will not recognize an USB-Stick to save the diagnostic protocol. This issue will be fixed with version 11.01. Measurement values are not shown correctly in some languages (e. g. Japanese). This issue is caused by non English or German operating systems. Siemens is still working to solve this issue.
