Plan I. Objectives: At the end of the period, the students are expected to: A. tell whether they agree or disagree with a given statement; B. express their insights regarding the importance of reading in their lives; C. give the meaning of words using context clues; D. create a video campaign advertisement to promote reading; and E. show the value of reading by writing an essay. II. Subject Matter The Importance of Reading by Aurora H. Roldan Reference: Roldan, A.H. (2010). College Reading and Writing. Pasig City: Anvil Publishing, Inc. III.Value Statement Reading remains to be an indispensable and essential tool every person uses in order to cope with the demands of a progressive society (Curugan, 2007). We learn to read in order for us to read to learn. Indeed, reading paves the way to bigger and greater bodies of knowledge. IV. Procedure: A. Daily Routine 1. Checking of classroom condition 2. Then, the students will share their thoughts with a partner and later on, the professor asks some students to share with the class what transpired in the activity. C. Lesson Proper The teacher distributes the copy of the text entitled The Importance of Reading by Aurora H. Roldan. The students are given 5 minutes to read the text silently. Then, the professor facilitates a part-by-part discussion of the text. The students read a part orally and the professor asks questions about what was read. In the discussion, the professor highlights the importance of reading in the lives of students. Essay Writing After the discussion on the importance of reading, the professor asks the students to reflect on their own thoughts about the importance of reading in their own lives. The professor asks the students to write their reflection entry in their respective journals. V. Evaluation The professor asks the students to answer the discussion questions found in the hand-out. The students will submit their written output for evaluation purposes. VI. Assignment Video Campaign Advertisement After the discussion, the professor divides the class into 5 groups. Each group will be tasked to come up with a video campaign advertisement that will promote the value of reading to students and to the people in general. The groups will be asked to brainstorm on the project and prepare for the concept of the advertisement. The video output will be presented the following week.
