AIR QUALITY SENSOR AND CONTROLLER

SPECIFICATION DATA

LQR1

FEATURES
Sensor for measuring and controlling the air quality in air-conditioned rooms. Heated metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor which changes its electrical conductivity in the presence of / upon an increase in the concentration of air pollutants. Own power supply unit 24 Vac. Current consumption 200 mA Output a) sliding signal for minimum limitation of the CR controller b) 0...10 V Plastic housing for wall mounting

transmits a 0...10-volt signal. This signal is applied to one (or more) CRE 1s, so that (given an adjustable signal current of y) the CRE 1(s) switch(es) and (in conjunction with a two-point switch) can e.g. turn on a fan or activate an flap. Because the CRE 1 is connected to 24 AC current, no CR power supply unit is necessary. If time lags are necessary for stepped switches, the CRW 3 (three times two-point) output modules should be employed. In this case, a CRN 1 power supply unit is needed, or the CRW 3 must be supplied with electricity via a CR controller already in place. Maximum limitation of the output signal (y and/or y) As a rule, because of the air heater's design, given very low outdoor temperatures, the external air flap cannot open to the maximum extent insofar as the necessary temperature of the incoming air would then no longer be guaranteed. In order to guarantee the necessary temperature of the incoming air, the maximum permissible extent of opening of the external air flap can be adjusted using the P4 potentiometer. This maximum limitation will be in effect only if terminals 5 and 6 of the LQR 1 are connected with each other. This makes it possible to operate in the "normal" operational mode without maximum limitation and to shift to maximum limitation only when a certain limit value is attained (via an external switching signal e.g. from an outdoor thermostat).

USE AND FUNCTIONING

In the following, a distinction will be made between three different applications: "a", "b", and "c". a) When used as a sensor in conjunction with controllers belonging to the CENTRATHERM CR System. Suitable for use with all controllers equipped for minimum limitation of the controller output, i.e. in conjunction with the CRR 1, CRX 1, CRS 3, CRF 5, and CRR 2. In the case of the CRS 3, the BVK 3 bus cable is necessary. Prerequisite: "Normal" temperature control for the external air flap. All published CR installation systems for flaps (both sequences and separate flap regulators) are valid! The "min. limitation" potentiometer of the module controlling the external air flap is set to the lowest permissible value (to zero, if possible). As the concentration of air pollutants rises, the LQR 1 steadily shifts the min. limitation to higher values, thus increasing the proportion of external air (up to 100%).In order to achieve this, output 4 of the LQR 1 is to be connected with the appropriate input ymin(ext) of the corresponding CR module (see electrical connection). Suitable for use as a 0...10-volt sensor (e.g. in conjunction with a direct-current system). Suitable for use as a stand-alone air quality controller for simple applications in conjunction with two-point switches. As the concentration of air pollutants rises, the LQR 1

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
There is a three-prong connection in the controller.

ASSEMBLY
After unscrewing both screws "C1" and "C2", the upper portion "A" of the device can be removed from the base "B". The base "B" is then fastened to the wall with two screws ("D1" and "D2"). Complete the electrical connection. Insert the device onto the base "B". Select a suitable measuring site in the inside of the room. Do not install the device directly next to doors or windows and air vents or near radiators / heat sources. Height: approx. 1.50 to 2.00 meters.

Terminal 4 of the LQR 1 is to be connected with: terminal 14 in the case of the CRR 1 or CRX 1 terminal 2 in the case of the CRF 5 terminal 7 in the case of the CRR 2 the blue wire of the BVK 3 in the case of the CRS 3 Terminals 5 - 6: Necessary only if maximum limitation is to be used. When connecting 5 6 via an external switch (e.g. an outdoor thermostat), the maximum limitation comes into effect.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADJUSTING

Please note that whenever operating the device for the first time, interrupting operation, or correcting the potentiometer's setting the sensor will be fully operational and capable of delivering stable signals only after a certain waiting period. This waiting period is dependent upon the length of the interruption. But an initial comparative measurement can take place after just 5 to 10 minutes.

The potentiometer S can also be thought of as shifting the control range. Vary the basic setting (S = 2) only in small steps (one graduation at a time). When S has a small value, the influence on the proportion of outdoor air is low. When S has a high value, the same change in the concentration of pollutants has a stronger influence on the proportion of outdoor air.

Potentiometer P4 Maximum Limitation of the Output Signal y (or y, as the case may be)
Using the potentiometer P4, the desired permissible maximum proportion of outdoor air can be adjusted. This is necessary only in certain cases (see also above). When set at 100%, the external air flap can be opened to the maximum possible extent, if necessary.

ST 1 Plug-In Bridge Preselecting the Operating Range

The ST 1 is used to preselect the desired operating range. For ordinary applications, always choose position "10". Reinserting at "1" means that the sensor has the highest sensitivity for a somewhat different spectrum of pollutants and is all-in-all more sensitive. If necessary, request more detailed information from the factory.

ST 2 Plug-In Bridge Adapting to the CR Controller

Using the ST 2, the output signal ymin (at terminal 4 of the LQR 1) can be adapted to the most varied input circuits of the individual CR Controllers. Depending upon the CR module used, the plug-in bridge is to be inserted into the corresponding position. Adjustment is necessary only if the CENTRATHERM CR System is employed for controlling. In the case of other applications if only the 0...10-volt output signal (terminal 3 of the LQR 1) is used the ST 2 can be inserted in any desired position.

Potentiometer E Activation Point

Using the potentiometer E, it is possible to set the activation point, i.e. the concentration of pollutants which is still barely regarded as "clean." Because there are not yet any generally-accepted standards for "clean" or "pure" air, only reference values are given here. The actual setting is heavily dependent upon the given application and the subjective perception of the affected persons. NOTE: The lower the value set using E, the higher the concentration of pollutants can rise before the LQR 1 comes into effect. In other words, the lower the value set using E, the lower the proportion of outdoor air and the greater the energy savings. Vary the basic value of 6.5 upwards or downwards only in small steps (one graduation at a time).

Potentiometer S Steepness
The higher the value set using the potentiometer S, the faster y (or y, as the case may be) rises and the more the proportion of outdoor is elevated as the concentration of pollutants increases.
