2.c. USES OF POR AND PARA

POR:
por + a= pela, por + o= pelo, por + as = pelas, por + os= pelos
- it is used in expressions like “por favor”, in question words (por que)
- it is used to indicate movement through or by a place: Passo pela biblioteca todos
os dias
- to indicate length of time or duration of an action: Vou estar no Rio por cinco
dias.

PARA:
- usually, para is equivalent of for, meaning intended, to be used for: Comprei um
livro para ele.
- para is used to refer to a destination: Ela vai para faculdade.

Adjectives:
Must agree in gender and number with the noun or pronoun it describes.
- Ending in -o, -a: masculine, feminine. To form the plural, just add an -s.
(Ex:simpático )

- Ending in -e, -z, -ar, -ista, -eta: use for both feminine and masculine. To form
plural, add -s or, if ending in -z, -ar add -es. (Ex: feliz, popular, pateta)

- Ending in -al, -el, -ul: can be used for masculine and feminine. In the plural form
-L becomes -IS. -IL becomes- IS or -EIS(if the word has an accent). (Ex: leal,
responsável, azul, gentil, difícil, espanhol)

- Ending in - or, -ês: add an -a to form feminine. Add -es to form plural to the
masculine, and -s to form plural to the feminine. (Ex: trabalhador, português)

- Ending in -es: have only one form regardless of genre or number. Ex: simples
