GUIDELINES FOR BURSARY APPLICATIONS

Rila Institute of Health Sciences which co-ordinates Postgraduate Diploma programmes, would
like to offer potential candidates a bursary to part-fund their enrolment on one of Rila’s
Postgraduate Diploma courses.

RILA Institute of Health Sciences bursaries are available to those who satisfy the
following criteria:

• Applicants must be eligible for Rila’s courses (see Programme Handbook for full details)
• Must be in possession of an MBBS or equivalent medical degree
• Must be engaged in active clinical practice
• Must be GMC registered
• Must have the support of their PCT, surgery or PBC group
• Must have identified an agreement with a suitable mentor/clinical supervisor as detailed in
the programme handbook.

In addition applicants will be required to:

• Submit the bursary application by the deadline date of 30th August 2011
• Agree to represent the values of Rila, with integrity and respect
• Acknowledge all correspondence from Rila and return any forms as and when requested
• Agree to submit an audit and progress report no later than 10 months after the Diploma has
been completed, indicating precisely how their local community has benefitted over and
above the normal healthcare delivery. (NB: each bursary recipient will be asked to submit
proposals as to how they will use their newly acquired skills to benefit their local community)

6 bursaries are available in each of the following disciplines:

• PG Diploma in Cardiology • PG Diploma in ENT


• PG Diploma in Urology • PG Diploma in Ophthalmology
• PG Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine • PG Diploma in Diabetes & Endocrinology

Please note that bursaries will be awarded on merit and are not subject to income assessment.

DETAILS OF BURSARY

The usual fees for Rila PG Diploma courses are £6072.82. Successful recipients of a bursary will
be required to pay £1500 plus a registration fee of £120. (Please note that the registration fee is
non refundable and non-transferrable. The £1500 course fee is only refundable up to the course
start date and is not transferable).

Please complete the bursary request form below and return it together with the Course
Application form, Referees report and the registration fee of £120.

NB: All bursary applications must be received by no later than 30th August 2011.

3. PERSONAL STATEMENT

In no more than 200-250 words please explain why you should be considered for a Rila Institute of Health
Sciences Postgraduate Diploma Bursary. Please also suggest proposals for ways in which your new skills
can be implemented to the benefit of your local community in addition to your normal working practice. This
statement is mandatory for those wishing to be considered for a bursary.
