SZABIST - Need based scholarship Policy

The scholarship committee has discussed the overall scholarship process at

SZABIST. In order to stream line the process and to facilitate the students
the committee has formed a general guide line which should be helpful to
students and SZABIST also. Committee after experiencing difficulties in
getting information / documentation about applicants and learning about
students problems with the announcement, submission of forms and
documentation requirements, recommends to setup SZABIST Scholarship
Secretariat.

Secretariat should guides students about different types of scholarships

available at SZABIST in addition to need based scholarships. Also committee
decided to simplify and revise the existing complicated form. The form is
also attached with this policy. Following are the important points of this
policy:

• SZABIST need based scholarships will be awarded to needy and

financially weak deserving students on semester basis.

• Committee will review new applications every regular semester.

• Need based Scholarship is for all regular programs except MS/ PhD and
EMBA programs. Only MS students can be considered on special case
based on the severity of need.

• There is no need based scholarships for external programs such as LLB

University of London, BSc Development Economics UoL, AIE, BABS
University of Wales.

• Committee in addition to awarding new scholarship will also review

academic performances of students who were awarded Need Based
Scholarship previously.

• Students failed to maintain the desired / required GPA will be warned in

writing to improve their performance failing to which the scholarship
will be withdrawn.

• SZABIST Need based scholarship will cover subsidy only Tuition fee.
Students can get waiver for 25% , 50%, 75% or 100% of tuition fee.

• If student gets scholarship from another source or scheme then

SZABIST need based scholarship will be withdrawn. In case of attaining
 Merit Scholarship of SZABIST, Scholarship for only that particular
semester will be withdrawn.

• Scholarships will be announced through student handbooks, egroups,

and SZABIST notice boards by SZABIST Scholarship Secretariat.

• Scholarship request can be made on prescribed forms available at

receptions and admission office / Scholarship secretariat. Forms may
also be provided SZABIST website to upload.

• Students to apply for need based scholarship latest by the end of

second week of every regular semester.

• Applications should be complete in all respect. Incomplete applications

will not be entertained.

• After submission of form students will be provided an

acknowledgement about their form submission.

• Documentation:

o Past semester results / records.

o Father’s / Mother’s / Guardian’s CNIC copy.

o Father’s / Mother’s / Guardian’s Pay slip / Income Certificate

certified employers / authorized persons.

o Pension documents of father / mother / guardian.

o Copies of recently paid utilities bills (Electric, Telephone, Mobile,

Gas).

o Bank Statement of Salary account / Business account of Father /

Guardian.

o Scholarship Committee reserves the right to ask for any other

document which they may feel is necessary in order to make any
decision.

• Interview:

o After deadline of submission of forms, Scholarship secretariat will

review all forms and verify that the application forms are
complete in all respect
 o After review and verification application forms, Scholarship
secretariat will provide the list of all applicants program wise and
forward all forms to Scholarship Committee.

o Scholarship interviews will be conducted by the Scholarship

Committee on 3rd Saturday of every regular semester.

o Interviews will start from 12.00 pm.

Interview Committee:

o One Representative from Fiancé

o Three program Coordinators.

• Criteria for Continuing Scholarship:

o Minimum 2.0 CGPA is required for the eligibility of SZABIST Need

Based Scholarship.

o However, after the award of scholarship, in order to continue the

scholarship, students should maintain or achieve minimum 2.5
CGPA.

o Student’s performance is subject to periodic review hence

continuation is not automatic.

• Results will be announced by the 4th Saturday of every regular

Semester.

• Academics and Records office to provide the academic results of Need

based Scholarship holders, as and when it is required. Result should
contain overall CGPA and last semester result. In some cases
committee may seek current semester progress of student.

• Terms and condition of Scholarship:

o The scholarship will be terminable (terminated) in the following
conditions:

 If the student fails to maintain minimum 80% attendance in class as

per rules.
 If the student is involved in malicious / undesirable activities.
 If student is punished because of his/her involvement in violation of
the institute rules, damage to institute property, misbehavior with
staff or colleagues or any other disciplinary action.
 Other sources may be used to verify the information provided by
the applicant. If the information provided by the student is found
incorrect at any time during his/her study period.
