* Used CASE tools for requirements mapping and design specifications development
of a real-time embedded 68020 VME bus ARTX/Ada computer system for a threat sim
ulator radar system. A MicroVAX Workstation, VMS, Ready Systems CARD tools devel
opment environment was used for high-level software design of data acquisition (
DA), communication (COM), and beam steering unit (BSU) with documentation suppor
t. Object-oriented design techniques were adhered to during this process. At the
Electro-Optics Division (EOD) of the Electro Magnetic Laboratory (EML), made si
gnificant modifications to the FORTRAN coded VAX VMS based TAWS software, a proo
f-of-concept software package designed for the Engineering Topographic Laborator
y (ETL) at Ft. Belvior, VA to provide ground-level battlefield sight and radar i
ntervisibility modeling and vehicle traverse modeling. After new requirements we
re defined, enhanced the TAWS software, installed updates on a HP UNIX based sys
tem, and trained personnel in program usage. Developed software to translate Def
ense Mapping Agency (DMA) DFAD (feature) data into DTED (terrain) like data for
sight and radar intervisibility modeling. Developed Penetration Aids (PENAIDS) c
ontouring algorithms and mission route perspective analysis for the Air Force. P
ENAIDS is a C3I battlefield route planner that considers aircraft flight envelop
e, weapons load, radar visibility, theater terrain, target value, current threat
radar installation capabilities and status, local weather, and probability of k
ill (PK). The Software Requirements and Interface Specifications provided were u
sed to write Pascal routines to display real-time PK contours on a battlefield m
ap implemented on a UNIX-based graphics system.

DDI was a C3I solutions provider for the defense industry.
Graphics Engineer, Contract Position
* Performed the formulation of functional specifications detailing the integrati
on of existing DDI products into the C3I network at Hickam AFB. Hawaii. The obje
ctive was the display of AF Intelligence and Operations database information ove
r DMA background map separates for the theater on an interactive, real-time colo
r graphics workstation that allowed extensive zooming, panning, and display mani
pulation. A DeAnza (Gould) 8500 image processor was used together with optical d
isk player, time base corrector, video digitizers, and a DEC 11/44. Developed pl
ans for coordinating of the optical disk master production containing 54,000 DMA
map separates of the theater, together with interface specifications between DE
C 11/44 UNIX and DEC 11/70 IAS operating systems. Software development was in C
with technical and operator manuals provided. This project used optical disk tec
hnology to store both DMA and current Ops/Intel imagery related to a battlefield
database with information originating and managed by both AF Ops and AF Intel.
HONEYWELL MARINE SYSTEMS (HMS), Seattle, WA, Europe and Honolulu, HI 1976-1983
HMS provided engineering support to US Navy systems.
Program Analyst
* Maintained software and hardware for a shipboard PDP 11-05 system working with
an active sonar research program. Developed and implemented the acquisition pl
ans for software to provide automatic testing capabilities for submarine LRUs in
an operational environment. Work proceeded from a set of Software Specification
s and required the development of appropriate User Manuals. The software was wri
tten in FORTRAN on a Honeywell 6000 system and ported to an equipment test-bed.
Designed and coded a computer animation system used for personnel training. De
veloped a Workload Forecasting software application for the Pearl Harbor Naval S
hipyard.
