Biomedical Technology Course #7200

Elizabeth Leu, Instructor

This survey course challenges students to investigate current and 21st century medical and health care
practices using computerized databases, the Internet, media, and visiting health team professionals. Topics
include the world of biomedical technology, the language of medicine, present and evolving biomedical
specialties, biomedical ethics: crisis and alternatives, and health career development. Work-based learning
strategies include service learning, field trips, and job shadowing. Skills in science, mathematics,
communications, health, and social studies are reinforced in this course.

Instructional materials include but are not limited to ,the Internet, instructional computer programs,
handouts, worksheets, magazines, and books.

Grading is designed to fairly assess the student in all aspects of learning and it is as follows:
Classwork 25%
Homework 25%
Tests 50%
Testing will include all of the formats (multiple choice, essay, true/false fill-in format. The final exam is an
exam issued by the State of North Carolina that is in multiple choice format. No student is exempt from the
exam and it will count for 25% of the final grade.
