8:30 am Rounds Meet attending, residents after Morning Report in


Physicians Dining Room

12:00-1:00 pm Noon Conference- Mon-Wed , 4th Floor Children’s Harbor, (lunch)


Grand Rounds on Thursday (lunch)
No conference on Fridays (no lunch) – Student Lecture

Afternoons Post Call – Leave by 2pm (after lecture)


On Call – Admit patients with resident/intern team
Other days – Follow up labs, consults, imaging
Tuesday
2:00-3:00 pm Palmisano Rounds with Chief Residents

Thursdays
2:00-3:00 pm Case simulations in Simulation Lab on Third Floor

Expectations

Vital Part of Team

• These are your patients ► spend time with them


► review their chart/electronic record
► track down outside records

• It’s ok to say “I don’t know” if families ask you questions you can’t answer. Tell
them you will ask one of the doctors on the team and get back with them.

Daily Responsibilities

1. Daily Note: SOAP Format


Come up with own assessment plan

Note important things to know:


▪ Daily weight (change from previous day)
▪ Vitals – including temp/fever, was it persistent fever or just one time
▪ UOP – cc/kg/hour
▪ Infant Feedings – kilocalories/kg/day
▪ Fluid Intake – Less than 10 kg More than 10kg
cc/kg/d cc/m2
(M2 formula)
▪ Review old orders (first thing)
▪ Look for cross cover notes/consult notes (surg/subspec/nutrition/OT/PT/social)
▪ Nurse comments on back of flow sheet

2. Examine Your Patient Each Day

Pertinent Systems and Gen/CVS/Resp/Abdomen – at minimum

Presentations

▪ Be thorough but efficient, have everything in front of you


▪ Talk to Intern/Resident prior to morning rounds
▪ Assessment/Plan – Problem Based vs. System Based
▪ COME UP WITH OWN PLAN
▪ Present most important problems first

Duties on call

H & Ps, following up new admit labs


Helping to get outside records
Turning in H & Ps
