the Association more visible to the community.
Some people see no benefit to membership.
Possibly packets would include older newsletters to

Committee. Six Triple Christmas Palms were
planted at the entrance along with 2 Robellini
Palms. The adjacent lot has been cut and
poisoned. Shrubs were replanted, and although
we had a recent cold-snap, all are healthy. Five
tons of rock went into the wall, as well.
Peter’s Lawn Service has been hired to
maintain the area once per month.
Five trees were planted along Isles Blvd. to
replace the Fox Tail palms. Single Christmas
Tree palms were planted on the corners.
For those in the community looking to replace
their Fox Tail palms, contact Ken Warner or
Carol Callowhill for a good price.
A huge thank you to all who have helped.
Volunteers are still needed to help maintain the
bridge areas.

Weather Was Great for Pizza Luau Party
Submitted by Carol Callowhill

How could anyone forget the 2010 Annual

Pizza Party? Well, if you attended, you’d
still remember the cold, the wind, and, oh
yes…the rain! Not the best of times.

This year, however, Mother Nature worked

with us and we spent a beautiful night
along the canal behind A Slice of Paradise.
Once again, Carol Callowhill, Alease Case,
and Judy Warner did an outstanding job.
The theme for the evening was “Pizza
Aloha,” complete with authentic Tiki
torches, crocodile candles and hibiscus
flowers.
The pizza was the best! Brandon, the
owner, did a great job with many varieties
of pizza…and plenty of it, too! Nobody
went home hungry that night!
We also celebrated Carl Dieckman’s birthday thanks to Bill and Charlotte Rudy. Charlotte
made the “Best Cake in the World” for Carl, Gwen and everyone in attendance to enjoy.
If you missed this one, you missed a great night out!

Holiday Party a Huge Success
Submitted by Carol Callowhill

The SCCA Holiday Party was a huge

success. Held at the Square Grouper Bar &
Grill on January 12th, more than 60 residents
attended this year. The “Cocktail Party” was
open to all members and residents of
Summerland Key.
As usual, resident and member Lynne Bell,
owner and Master Chef of the Square

Grouper, did an outstanding job. “The

crab cakes were my favorite,” said social
director Carol Callowhill. She went on to
say, “We tried to do something a little
different this year. I think it was well received by the membership.”
Rather than have a sit-down dinner, Callowhill decided to have a cocktail-appetizer party
with a cash bar. Everyone had the option to stay for dinner and order from the menu on a
self-pay basis.
Co-chairing the event with Callowhill were Alease Case and Judy Warner, who always do a
great job. What a team! Thanks, ladies!

Hello Neighbors,
Thank you for re-electing me as your Summerland Cove Civic Association Vice President. It is an honor to
