ASSIGNMENT – PROJECT
Objectives
 To encourage students to practise their
- reading comprehension skills
- writing skills
- speaking and presentation skills
 To assess the students performance
Guidelines
1. Students should form teams of up to four (4)
persons and inform the instructors of the team members and team
leader who will coordinate the team, make sure tasks are equally
allocated and each member equally contributes, will communicate with
the teacher (via e-mail - sonialyt@hotmail.co.uk and
v.kapralou@teilar.gr - or at an arranged time) and report on progress
made or any other assignment related issues: questions, difficulties etc.
2. Each team will produce a written Report on a well-known
global company, based on the analysis of the following five aspects of
the company:
 Mission & vision
 Organizational structure
 CRM (Customer Relationship Management) policies
 Learning opportunities within the company
 E-Business
3. Each team will notify the instructors of the company they plan to
analyse, after searching the internet for a suitable enterprise with a well-
organised website in English that can provide the necessary data for the
analysis.
4. Your Report must be a complete text organised in paragraphs, with
headings, etc., and no less than 6 pages long.
5. Each team will present the Report to the whole class with the use of IT
tools (PowerPoint).
6. Please use Microsoft Word, save your work electronically and provide a
printed version along with an electronic one.
7. Your assignment must be submitted and will be presented by your team
in the last session of the spring semester 2010 -2011, i.e. 14th – 19th June
2011.

8. Your assignment will comprise 40% of your final mark and your
performance will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:
content, language use, speaking skills and presentation skills.

Practical Instructions
The final written Report should contain the following information:
1. Brief historical overview of the company (success or failure?)
2. Mission & Vision (see Business English for Future Managers -
unit 1)
• What do they reveal about the company?
• Are the mission and vision statements successful? Why?
• What can you learn about the company by reading these statements?
• What is their business strategy? Strategic planning? Etc.
3. What is the organizational structure? (unit 2)
• How did they develop their organizational structure?
• Leadership style/management style/administrative systems/
informal or bureaucratic organization? Is it a holding company? If it
has subsidiaries, how do they cope?
• Progress of their life cycles- how did they grow larger and more
complex? Or the opposite.
• Stages of evolution
• If so, how did they stay at the top for many decades?
• Did their growth begin to decline at any point? What action did
they take?
• How do their strategists keep up with the demands of their
customers?
• How do they handle competition?
4. What is the company’s CRM (Customer Relationship
Management) policy? (unit 3)
• What tactics do they apply?
• How do they acquire and retain customers? /what marketing
strategies do they apply? (see p.54)
• Policy implementation and problems.
• Which customer segments do they target? (as most profitable to
them)
5. Learning opportunities within the company (unit 4)
• Is the company a Learning Organization?
• How is learning distributed to all the members of the company?
• How are changes confronted or applied?
• What is the position of the employees? Is learning encouraged to
acquire new skills?

• What is the learning culture? Does it promote acquisition of new
skills, teamwork, individual effort, objectivity, continuous personal
development etc.
• How do they motivate their employees to learn? (see p.62)
6. E-Business (unit 7)
• Do they do e-business? How do they use e-commerce?
• What e-business strategy do they implement?
• How successful are they?
• What are the benefits/drawbacks?
