Eye-Opening Experience for Olympia College’s Hotel students at the High 5 Bread Town

Students of the Hotel Management programme of Olympia College, Ipoh campus recently went on an

excursion to Bread Town, Shah Alam. They departed from the college at 6.30 a.m. on a chartered bus.

The journey was pleasant and the excitement began when they entered Bread Town! Everything looked

very Egyptian and it was then that they learnt that bread-making was first started by the Egyptians. The

carvings on the wall depicting the Egyptians making bread were really awe-inspiring and interesting.

High 5 Bread Town is owned by the Silver Bird Group and is the manufacturer of Hi-5 breads. It is the

first of its kind in the world and was officially opened by the Minister of International Trade & Industry

on 25 May 2005. High 5 Bread Town is a truly unique attraction - it is an architectural masterpiece

showcase of the RM100 mil state-of-the-art plant of Silver Bird Group factory located on 6.07ha plant in

Shah Alam. High 5 Bread Town was certified in the Malaysia Book of Records as the “First Bread

Museum” in Malaysia.

At the plant, students were ushered into a cinema-like room with a projector and screen right in front.

Then, one of the employees showed them a short presentation on the 5000 years of history in bread-

making. The next part of the tour was even more interesting – students were shown around the factory

and experienced how the bread is made from scratch - baked, sliced, packaged and ready to be shipped.

After the tour, the students were led to the High 5 Bread Town Cafe and they were each given a goodie

bag containing various breads to take home. It was an eye-opening experience for the students.

Olympia College’s cutting edge and industry oriented Diploma in Business Studies programme will equip
students with the right professional skills required by the multi-national corporations. Students will be
expected to participate, debate, analyse and appreciate the thinking of the various business leaders and

developed in consultation with CEO’s, Senior Managers and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency
(MQA) to help fill the gap for competent middle managers in the industry.

The graduates from the Diploma in Business Management/Business Studies programmes will also be
recognized for exemptions and on completion of an integrated project will be awarded the prestigious
Higher National Diploma (HND) from Edexcel, UK.

This guarantees entry into 2nd year of an undergraduate degree locally or to over 200 universities in UK,
USA and Australia. Students who want an European exposure can also completed their degree through
the University of Information Technology and Management (UITM), Poland at very affordable fees.

Olympia’s Diploma in Hotel Management programme is a highly sought programme for those interested
in a successful hotel career. The hotel programme was developed with the assistance of partner
institutions and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to meet the demands of the hotel industry.
Olympia College is a member of the prestigious Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH). The graduates
from the Diploma in Hotel Management will :

1) receive an additional Diploma from the Business and Hotel Management School (BHMS)
(Switzerland)*

3) This will pave a way to the final year of Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Hospitality Management
