laws, regulatory positions are now
available. According to Vijay Bhaskar
Reddy, head, R&D foods division,
Dabur India Limited, "Today there are
plenty of good opportunities in research
foundation, analytical testing, quality
control, dairies, production and mar-
keting." Other options include working
in hospitals, bakeries, confectioneries,
frozen food units, the food processing
division in catering units, distilleries and
packaging industry. For those who wish
to share their food knowledge, teach-
ing is an option.
SCOPE :The process of product de-
velopment does not just include the
packaging of raw material, but taste
and nutrition are also important. Many
institutes have started paying atten-
tion to this aspect besides chemistry,
microbiology and engineering. That is
why, students from food science and
nutrition are finding openings in the food
industry, especially in research and
development. "Newer aspects in the
industry such as patents, emerging
pathogens, special nutritional needs,
new food laws and a new quality sys-
tem are making an impact on the cur-
riculum," states Pai.
CHALLENGES : Although food tech-
nology is a versatile field, one has to
face challenges on a day to day ba-
sis. "Development of a new product,
which is pleasant to taste and is of
good quality while being cost effec-
tive. To this, Pai adds, "Maintaining a
good supply chain with decent manu-
facturing practises is also a task.
Consumers are now expecting ev-
ery food product to have excellent
taste and quality at a reasonable
cost. New food laws have allowed
the use of some ingredients in func-
tional foods that help reduce the risk
of certain ailments like heart dis-
ease, diabetes and cancer. These
advantages have to be included with-
out affecting the taste, which is a
big challenge." Another challenge is
that new global products are appear-
ing in the market, which is why local
products have to compete with qual-
ity, taste and cost. Overall, food
science is a growing field, what with
more aspirants entering the field,
and a wider scope of opportunities
available to them. Due to an in-
crease in health awareness and
more consumers looking into the
nutritional value of foods, buyers
are demanding more variety in food,
coupled with convenience. With a
fresh lot of companies entering the
field, there is a much wider scope
for careers and competition to-
gether.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
• Commission is granted in the rank of Lieutenant.
• Pay and Allowances and privileges will be same as regular Army Officers when embodied for
training and military service.
• Promotions upto Lt Col by time scale subject to fulfilling laid down criteria. Promotion to Colonel
and Brigadier by selection.
• Officers commissioned in TA Infantry may be called out for military service for longer duration
depending on requirement.

• One month basic training in the first year of commission.

RECRUITMENT FOR THE POST OF CONSTABLE (ANIMAL TRANSPORT)
Applications are invited from male Indian citizens for filling up the following vacancies on
temporary basis likely to be permanent, for the post of Constables (Animal Transport) in the
Indo Tibetan Border Police Force. The post has All India liability and selected candidates can be
posted anywhere in India and even abroad. On appointment, the candidate shall be governed by
the ITBPF Act and Rules. The last date of receipt of application is 23.06.2011 for all States.
2. PAY SCALE AND OTHER ALLOWANCES: -
a) PB-I, Pay Scale- Rs. 5200 – 20,200 + Grade Pay Rs. 2,000/- per month.
b) Other allowances: The post will carry Dearness Allowance, Ration Money, Washing Allow-
ance as admissible from time to time, Special Compensatory Allowance while posted in specified
border areas, free uniform, free accommodation or HRA, Transport Allowance, Free leave pass
and any other allowance as admissible in the Force from time to time under the rules/instructions.
These posts will be covered under Restructured Defined Contribution Pension
Scheme.
3. A candidate appearing for the test should mention/intimate if any criminal case(s) is/are pend-
ing/lodged against him in any police station/Hon’ble court.

5. ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS:
(i) AGE: – Between 18 to 25 Years (Cut off date for determining the age will be – 23.06.2011)
Note:- (a) Upper age limit is relaxable for SC/ST by 5 years and for OBC by 3 years.
(b) The upper age limit shall be relaxed by the length of military service increased by 3 years in
case of Ex-servicemen.
(c) Upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years to the children and dependent family members of
those killed in 1984 riots and riots of 2002 in Gujarat. SC/ST/OBC relexation as per Govt.
instructions will be in addition. Children and dependent family members should produce a certifi-
cate to that effect from the Collector of the concerned District where the victim was killed. (d)
Upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years to all persons who had ordinarily been domiciled in the
State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01st day of January 1980 to 31st day of
December 1989. (e) Upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years for Govt. servant in accordance with
the instructions issued by the Central Govt. Persons serving in Govt./semi Govt. Department may
send their applications through proper channel alongwith “No Objection Certificate” as per format
in Annexure-I.
(ii) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION: a) Matriculation or equivalent from recognized board. b) 8th
class pass from a recognized Institution for S.T. Category candidates belonging to Mizoram State.

high colour vision. They must be in good mental and bodily health and free from any physical
defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of the duties.
6. HOW TO APPLY AND BY WHICH DATE:- Eligible and interested candidates should send their
Applications (duly filled in Hindi or English only) complete in all respects and Candidate’s Admit
Card duly filled in, in the prescribed proforma as per Annexure ‘I’ and Annexure ‘II’. The
application should either be type written or neatly hand written on one side only on full size plain
paper with passport size photographs affixed & duly attested by Gazetted Officer along with
application fee, attested copies of the testimonials as in para-8 to the “Inspector General
(North West) Frontier, ITBP, PO-Seema Nagar, (Near Airport) Chandigarh (UT) -160003”,
on or before the prescribed last date i.e. 23.06.2011 for all States except for Assam, Meghalaya,
Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of Jammu and
Kashmir State, Lahaul-Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of HP, Andaman &
Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep for which last date is 30.06.2011.
7. APPLICATION FEE: The candidates belonging to General and OBC category will be required to
pay Rs. 50/- (Non refundable) as application fee in form of Central Recruitment Fee
Stamp(CRFS)/IPO/ Bank Draft in favour of “ Inspector General (North West) Frontier,
ITBP, PO-Seema Nagar, Chandigarh(UT) PAYABLE AT SBI, AFS Chandigarh, Code No-
1495. The candidates opting for CRFS should affix the CRFS at specified space in application
form and get cancelled as well.
8. ENCLOSURES REQUIRED TO BE ATTACHED WITH APPLICATION:-

than Tehsildar or SDM.

(iv) Domicile Certificate issued by local revenue authorities for verification of citizenship. (v)
Discharge certificate for Ex-Servicemen. (vi) Two latest passport size photographs. (one pasted
on application form and another on admit card duly attested) (vii) IPO/Bank Draft of Rs.50/- (for
General and OBC Candidates only). (viii) Two self addressed envelopes of 4”X9” size with
Rs. 5/- postage stamps affixed on each envelope. (ix) Certificate as per Annexure ‘V’ for claiming
relaxation in height & chest (if applicable) (x) Envelope containing Application must be super-
scribed in bold letters “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF CONSTABLE (AT) IN ITBP”.
Note:- All the above original documents/certificates are required to be brought at the time of
recruitment tests for verification by the Board.
9. SELECTION PROCESS: The eligible candidates shall be issued Admit cards to appear in recruit-
ment test. The date and place of recruitment test will be indicated in Admit card. The candidates will
have to undergo the following recruitment tests:-
(a) Height Bar – At the very beginning of recruitment process, candidates will be asked to go through
the height bar test. The candidates not meeting the prescribed height will be eliminated.
(b) Race - The candidates, who qualify the Height Bar Test, will be subjected to 5Km race to be
completed within 24 minutes to qualify for further tests. No marks will be awarded for this test and it

will be only qualifying in nature. (c) Checking of documents: The documents of candidates will be
checked by the board. Original documents will be returned on the spot after verification and photo-
copies will be retained with the application form. Those who clear this stage will go to PST. (d)
Physical Standard Test (PST): Candidates found eligible in documentation will be screened for
height, chest and weight measurements by the board. Those who do not meet the
required physical measurements will be eliminated at this stage. (e) Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
: The candidates who clear the PST event will be required to undergo PET which will consist of the
following:-
Long Jump 11 feet (03 chances to be given)
High Jump 3-1/2 feet (03 chances to be given)
Note - Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be qualifying in nature and it will not carry any marks.
Those who do not qualify in any of PET events will be discarded then and there and will not be
allowed to appear in further events. No Race or Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be held for Ex-
servicemen. However, Ex-servicemen will be required to pass the requisite PST, written
examination and medical examination. (f) Written Examination (100 Marks): The candidates
qualified in RACE, PST and PET will be required to pass the written examination consisting of
following:-
General English (objective type) 20 questions 20 Marks

General Awareness (objective type/bilingual 20 questions 20 Marks

Note: Qualifying marks shall be 35% for General Candidates & Ex-Servicemen and 33% for Sched-
uled Caste/Scheduled Tribes /Other Backward Class in the Written Examination i) The duration of
the Written Examination will be 2 hours. ii) Candidates will be required to answer in OMR sheet,
which will be signed both by the candidate and invigilator. iii) The candidates will be allowed to take
carbon copy of the answer sheet. Answer key to the question paper will be posted on the website and
displayed on the notice board after the written examination is completed. iv) The OMR answer sheet
of written test will be processed/scanned in an electronic machine. Any wrong entry of roll number,
name, question booklet number, question paper series etc will render the OMR sheet invalid and the
same will not be evaluated. The concerned candidates will be responsible for such mistake on their
part. (g) Interview: There will be no interview for this recruitment. (h) Merit List – Merit lists in each
category namely, Gen, SC, ST, OBC and Exservicemen will be drawn on the basis of marks obtained
by the candidates in the written examination. The candidates shall be called for Detailed Medical
Examination (DME) as per the category-wise vacancies and strictly on the basis of this merit. (j)
Detailed Medical Examination (DME): Candidates selected in order of merit will be put through
medical examination to assess their fitness as per the medical standards fixed for the post. (k) Appeal
against medical examination: i) A candidate declared unfit in detailed medical examination, if not
satisfied with the findings of the Medical Officer, can submit an appeal for his re-medical examina-
tion with a duly filled Medical certificate as per Form No. 6 (at Annexure-VI) as a proof of
evidence about the error of judgment on the part of Recruitment Medical Officer. ii) The medical
certificate will not be taken into consideration unless it contains a note by the medical practitioner
concerned to the effect that it has been given in full knowledge of the fact that the candidate has
already been rejected as unfit for appointment in ITBP by a Medical Officer.
iii) The appeal will also not be taken into consideration unless it contains Medical Re-Examination
Fee of Rs. 25/- in form of Indian Postal Order or Demand Draft in the name of Commandant, Base
Hospital, ITB Police, New Delhi and Rejection Slip (in original) issued by the Presiding Officer. iv)
The appeal complete in all respect should be submitted within 15 days from the date of issue of the
communication i.e. Rejection Slip, (ITBP will not be responsible for any postal delay) to the Nodal
Officer i.e. the authority to whom the initial application was submitted. The appeals received after
the prescribed 15 days, without relevant documents will not be entertained. v) The decision of the re-
medical board of ITBP shall be final and no 2nd appeal will be entertained as per Govt. instructions
and also no reply of the correspondence/2nd appeal will be given/ entertained. 10. Candidates who
are already in Central/State Govt. service including Departmental Candidates send their application
through proper channel with NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from their Employer. Application re-
ceived without proper channel and NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE will also be rejected.

Wrong answers given in the objective test will result in negative marks. The candidates securing a minimum of
40% marks in the written test shall qualify for interview. In the case of candidates belonging to the Scheduled
Caste or the Scheduled Tribes categories, the minimum marks in the written test shall be 35% to qualify for
interview. Marks obtained in the written test will be reckoned for merit ranking. Accordingly, candidates will be
called for interview. Depending upon the number of vacancies only those candidates who ranked sufficiently
high in the written test will be called for interview in the ratio of 1:3. Mere eligibility/ pass in the test
shall NOT vest any right for being called for interview. The detailed information regarding the

The language test both in English & Oriya shall be of qualifying
nature and all qualified candidates are to be called for typing
and stenography test both in Oriya and English and data entry
test in Computer separately.
A candidate securing less than 33 percent of marks in the
above language test shall be disqualified for appearing at the
Typewriting test.
(ii) Typewriting Test in English - 50 marks
The test shall be held for 10(ten) minutes at a speed of 40(forty)
words per minute from a printed matter containing 400 words.
While assessing the accuracy of re-production 5 marks will be
deducted for each mistake in the typed script. A candidate whose
script reveals more than 6 mistakes shall be disqualified to sit
for the Shorthand Test.
(iii) Shorthand Test in English - 50 marks
The test shall comprise dictation from a printed matter (240
words) for three minutes at the rate of 80 words per minute.
Time allowed for transcription shall be fifteen minutes. The ap-
portionment of marks for evaluation of answer scripts shall be
as follows:-
(a)Dictation in Shorthand Script - 25 marks
While assessing the ability to take down dictation in Shorthand
script, one mark will be deducted for each mistake.
(b) Transcription - 25 marks
While assessing the ability to transcribe, one mark shall be
deducted for each mistake. A candidate committing more than
24 mistakes shall be disqualified.
(iv)Typewriting Test in Oriya - 50 marks
The test shall be held for 10(ten) minutes at a speed of 20
(twenty) words per minute from a printed matter containing 200
words. While assessing the accuracy of reproduction 5 marks
will be deducted for each mistake in the typed script. A candidate
whose script reveals mistakes more than 6 shall be disqualified.
(v) Shorthand Test in Oriya - 50 marks
The test shall comprise dictation from a printed matter containing 240
words for three minutes at the rate of 80 words per minute. Time
allowed for transcription shall be 24 minutes. The apportionment of
marks for evaluation of answer scripts shall be as follows:
(a) Dictation in Shorthand Script - 25 marks While
assessing the ability to take down dictation in Shorthand script,
one mark shall be deducted for each mistake.
(b) Transcription - 25 marks While

be deducted for each mistake in the script. A candidate whose
script reveals more than 10 (ten) mistake shall be disqualified.
12. Select list: The final select list will be prepared on the
basis of marks secured by the qualified candidates in the recruit-
ment examination i.e. in the language test both in Oriya & English,
the typewriting and stenography test in English & Oriya and data
entry test taken together in order of merit category wise.
13. Important Note: Candidates are advised to read carefully
