Overview: Developed and guided strategic corporate community relations and publi
c relations program including all aspects of external relations, community relat
ions, crisis and internal and external communications, corporate events planning
/sponsorships and media relations. Key activities include but are not limited to
:
* Chief Spokesperson & Crisis Communication Officer; member of the Mine Disaster
Management and Recovery Team encompassing (three states and five mine sites), d
eveloped press releases, directed and provided oversight to media relations thro
ughout the U.S., Europe and Australia, wrote, responded and strategically placed
media information regularly with trade magazines and responded to crisis situat
ions including the 2006 mine fatality.
* Led and implemented communications, community relations, re-branding, marketin
g, and media relations for merger/acquisition and related IPO process from Rio T
into Energy America to Cloud Peak Energy, developed target audience maps for emp
loyees, stakeholders, and community and media outlets. Oversaw alignment with co
mmunications and media relations across business units, geographies, and functio
nal groups.
* Implemented corporate contributions policy by designing and distributing compr
ehensive three-state, five-region Community Needs Assessment to adequately measu
re critical issues, challenges and opportunities present in each community.
* Coordinated CEO and Trade Magazine interviews, and oversaw all VIP tours inclu
ding three-day media tour of 16 journalists from Mongolia, Governor's and Senato
r's tour etc.
* Monitored and leveraged daily news cycles; responded with rapid response capab
ility.
* Provided strategic public relations programs to executives in order to secure
opportunities to enhance Cloud Peak Energy's reputation.
* Establish trusting relationships with various internal and external stakeholde
rs including executive management, business unit management, consumers, elected
officials, employees and media; including reporters and editors (Coal Age, Argus
Coal etc)
* Counseled the CEO and other executives on key messaging strategies, and issue
management for external and/or internal audiences.
* Monitored regulatory issues with government relations managers to asses the im
pact to our company.

(A boutique company that was awarded a license to operate by Department of Heal
th and the State of Wyoming; Supervised the compliance of all administrative fun
ctions and policies with applicable regulatory agencies. Providing contract nego
tiations, policy and procedures, upheld the American with Disabilities Act for a
ll clientele who received Medicaid Waiver benefits. The company was the largest
for- profit in six county regions built with a solid foundation for profitable g
rowth. The company was merged in 2008 and subsequently sold in 2010.)
Overview: Founded organization in 2000 after identifying a community need for he
alth care administrative services. Established policy and procedure and was awar
ded license to operate by the Department of Health and the State of Wyoming. Com
pany competed for contracts and clientele. I managed daily operations including
budget administration, program development, staffing, public relations, company
communications and policy oversight. I provided contract negotiations, policy ad
ministration, budgetary oversight and upheld all health care regulatory rules.
* Developed and expanded revenue performance; Grew business from the ground up t
o over $1M annually, Company was region's largest privately operated organizatio
n in six county region.
