As the Director of Departments that include 250 employees and 17 cost centers, I
have thirteen direct reports in the Clinical Laboratory and the OP Pavilion Cen
ter, Family Practice, Regional Blood Center (serving 18 facilities throughout We
stern Colorado), Coagulation Clinic, Facility-based multi-modality Imaging depar
tment and OP Pavilion Imaging. The Clinical Laboratory is a full service Lab tha
t includes Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Service, Coagulation, Urinalysis,
Microbiology, Serology, Histology, Cytology, Specimen Procurement, POC, Send Out
s, Registration and a staff of Couriers to support our Outreach. Imaging modalit
ies include Interventional Radiology, MRI, CT, Wilma B. Bacon Mammography Pavili
on Imaging Center, PET, Nuc Med, Diagnostic, PACS, Outreach, and Radiology suppo
rt services.
The Laboratory is CAP, AABB, FDA, TJC accredited. The Imaging modalities either
are ACR accredited or are currently in the process of obtaining their accredita
tion. While at St. Mary's I have maintained the Budget with significant savings
in expenses and increases in revenue (averaging $ 100,000 plus per year) while i
ncreasing Productivity in all areas by 20-30 %. We have increased our Laboratory
volumes by 10 % in the last two years and are running about 2.3 million tests p
er year. Imaging has increased its volume by 6 %. Other accomplishments include
an enhanced Quality Management program and top Departmental Physician satisfacti
on scores that are at the top of the Physician survey throughout the hospital. O
ver the last three years, we have been number 1 & 2 for the Lab's Physician Sati
sfaction scores while Imaging has maintained a number 3 in its' Physician Satisf
action score ratings. These ratings span the 35 departments throughout the hospi
tal. Identified key Quality and Safety initiatives as well as LEAN savings oppor
tunities.

Direct a Clinical Laboratory and Anatomic Pathology service at a 376 bed "for pr
ofit" Tenet facility. Hialeah Hospital has 59 FTEs in the Clinical Laboratory.
The Clinical Laboratory consists of Microbiology, Serology, Chemistry, Immunohem
atology, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Phlebotomy, Clerical and Transcrip
tion sections. The Anatomic Pathology section includes the Histology Laboratory
along with transcriptionists and the secretarial section. While at Hialeah our
Laboratory has become a "College of American Pathologists-accredited Laboratory
with Distinction" along with accreditation by the "American Association of Bloo
d Banks." Over the past eight years, we had no deficiencies or recommendations
in our CAP, AABB, and AHCA, CLIA or The Joint Commission inspections. With 58 C
AP PT surveys the scores are averaging greater than or equal to 99.5 %
We have achieved our productivity standard while maintaining our budget and incr
easing our test volumes. This was achieved first in Chemistry, Special Chemistr
y and Microbiology. These analyzers were worth over $1.5 Million. In doing thi
s I was able to save our facility this expense while enhancing our technological
presence in the healthcare community. I have been the Emergency Management Gra
nt Coordinator since 2002 and have received $ 150,000 to $500,000 per year for e
quipment, training and exercises. I have facilitated and provided the training
for HEICS, HICS, HazMat, and CBRNE for our facility.
