Assessment Task #2
Developing a Multimedia Product

Date Due: Tuesday 31st May 2011

Weighting: 25%

OUTCOMES ASSESSED:

Semester Report Outcome #2

• Demonstrates competence in selecting, using and maintaining sophisticated hardware and
software while composing multimedia products.

Semester Report Outcome #3

• Describes and applies problem-solving processes when creating a range of multimedia
solutions, and, demonstrates an ability to critically analyse decision-making processes involved
in making said solutions.

Semester Report Outcome #5

• That given a specified problem and with respect to ethical computing practices a student
designs and produces an appropriate multimedia solution.
IN SHORT
In consultation with your teacher develop an idea for a multimedia product.
• Model the idea for a multimedia product in the form of a storyboard.
• Implement this idea using Flash.
• Write 500 words explaining and analysing how you went about completing
your project.

MORE SPECIFICALLY
Consult with your teacher until you have developed a good, mutually acceptable idea for a multimedia
project.

Part A: Model your idea as a storyboard (25 Marks)

You must model you solution prior to starting its implementation. The model you complete must be a
storyboard. The storyboard must be completed on A1 cardboard (or similar). It should detail:
• significant screens in your presentation and their content..
• changes that might occur to the screen while it is being viewed and details of any triggers to
these changes.
• flow between screens and how this is controlled.
• any/all multimedia elements to be included in the presentation
• brief annotations explaining the presentation.

The storyboard is to be submitted in class to your class teacher on the day the task is due.

Part B: Make your multimedia product using Flash (50 Marks)

You must make the actual product using Flash (i.e. Flash should be your primary authoring tool).

Your product, together with all resource files, must be physically handed to your teacher (i.e. it cannot
be emailed or submitted via SACSnet). You can submit your product on CD/DVD or USB drive.

You are wholly responsible for ensuring that the complete, final, version of the project, together with
all resource files are submitted; and that your files are organized into a logical and coherent system of
folders.

As part of your product you must include a bibliography. The bibliography must be typed in Word
and it should details the origins of any files/resources you have used. Refer to page 37 of your school
diary for details on referencing files from websites. Do not print your bibliography, just include a
copy in the same folder as your product.

Part C: Write a 500 word analysis of how you made you project and the project’s key design
features (25 Marks)
Write a 500 word explanation and analysis of how you made your project. Things to detail here
include the reasoning behind including important design features. You should also explain and
analyse things like the difficulties you had, decisions you made and moments of inspiration (or any
other matters that you feel are noteworthy).

This component must be well written. Punctuation must be used correctly and this means good
sentence and paragraph structure. It must be apparent that your writing went through a cycle of
drafting, editing and proofing.
