from one dredging location to another, on call 24 hours per day, anchor
tow, set dredge on cut line, direct setting of anchors, talk to vessels
passing the dredge during set-up up and breaking up, to insure the safety

for dredge and attending plants, mandate work orders to first mate, pilot

supervises maintenance of suitable mess and quarters for the crew, performs
other administrative detail pertaining to the operation, maintenance, and
repair of the dredge and attendant plant, ensure that proper fire, life
saving, and first aid equipment is maintained aboard the dredge, personally
directs operations in case of fire or emergency, conducts fire, and man-
overboard drills, ensure EEO and union are know of all changes to the
contract, notify crew of changes, listen to EEO and union grievances,
ensure safety rules are followed, ensure all crew members have all safety
clothing, shoes/boots, life jackets, eye protection, hard hats and any
protection necessary to protect the crew. Work with marine design center on
new equipment projects, re-power of the dredge potter, replacement of two
dredge tenders and one derrick, working on a fixed dredging spill project,
help crew members to obtain a Coast Guard License, help with family
problems, personal problems and crew problems. Approve supplies and
material, training, e mail, progress reports to management, work with crew,
payroll, crew and safety issues, travel, CEFMS, CPOL, CPAC, HR, and EEO.

squared dig site, dug, set and pour footings, squared footing to set
concrete forms, poured walls to desired elevation, form and pour side walks
and patios, set shoe plates, set band boards, set floor joists, and
bridging, glue floor to joist, set and nail and or screw floor decking, lay-
out build and set walls, top plates, headers for doors and windows,
cripples for windows and doors, install fly rafters, soffits, install roof
trim, black paper and shingles, cap roof, siding wood and vinyl, set
interior doors, outside doors, windows, roof vents power and wind, sky
lights. Hang sheet rock tape and finish. Finish the whole house with base
and moldings, set cabinets, vanities, install sinks, garbage disposals,
dishwashers, washers and dryers, hot water heaters gas and electric, trash
compactors, caulk doors and windows. Set 1000 and 500 gallon septic tanks,
run four inch PVC pipe to it, run field drain lines, install 200 amp whole
house electric box, wire whole house, wire out buildings. Operate skid
steer, front end loader, tractor, dump truck, jack hammer, concrete saws,
worm saws, miter saws, table saws, saws all, concrete finisher, drills,
transit and red birds, all hand tools to perform the jobs above.
From April 1976 to August 2006 I built four houses and helped finished one
for my Father in Law, Gene Culbertson of Jackson, MO. From Drawing up plans
on one quarter inch to one half inch scale, Digging footings, pouring
footings, setting forms, bracing forms, inserting wall ties, pouring and
finishing nine inch concrete walls, shooting grades, setting band boards,
setting joists, decking floors, laying out wall, cutting cripples and
headers, framing walls, setting trusses, decking roof, laying tar paper,

shingling the roof, capping the roof, wiring the houses, insulating wall
and ceiling, hanging sheet rock, finishing and painting, hanging doors and
windows, installing kitchen appliances, laying floor coverings, all
plumbing, installing siding.
During layoff periods from the Dredge Potter I worked helping my Friend
David Cook (deceased) of Jackson, MO. Installing septic tanks and field
drain lines, installing water lines, used a red bird to set sewer drain
lines in a new subdivision, used a air drill and jack hammer to cut away
rock in the way on the sewer line, used commercial dynamite to blast rock
for sewer line. I also completed a thirty by thirty foot room add on to a
house to help save money for a fried, poured footings and floor, framed it,
roofed it, tore off old cedar siding, and nailed new cedar six inch boards
on the outside, installed new windows and doors, and ran
electric to the room addition, set through wall air and heat units.
Stick built a new thirty foot by forty foot garage, did all footings and
walls, all the flat work, framed the walls, set trusses, deck the roof,
shingled the roof, set main electric box, ran all the electric wire to
lights and plug in's, ran 220 electric for the air compressor, installed
garage doors with openers, laid the stove blocks for the flue for a wood
stove.
