We are exploration geologists and we are off for the field

season to look for valuable minerals.
2
Oh good! Here is our transportation - a Beaver
floatplane to take us to our base camp.

You might wonder what our base camp looks like. Well,
here it is! Sure glad the camp crew went ahead and set
it all up for us. This will be home for the summer!
4
I lost my rock hammer. Can you help me find it?
5
Sure glad we brought everything we need for a safe
work day. Can you help me pack my backpack? Circle
the things I need for the day.
6
When we explore for minerals we either walk on foot, go
by boat, or fly in a helicopter. Each day we explore a
little further away from camp.
7
As we work we stop and look at all the rocks along the
way. We break off samples with a rock hammer and look
at them with a hand lens. We write what we see in our
notebooks and mark the spot on our map.
8
Can you sort these rocks for me?

9
We make a map of all the different rocks we see. Help
me make my geologic map! Colour the rock types the
same as you did before!

10
When I find valuable minerals in a rock outcrop, my next
job is to find out how big the mineral deposit might be.
11
When our backpacks are full of samples and our lunch is
gone we head back to camp. We put our samples into
buckets and send them out to a lab. We put our field
notes into the computer.
12
After a long work day we are hungry. We all meet up in
the cook tent for dinner. We talk about our day.
13
After dinner we are off to bed. What a great day. I
wonder what we will find tomorrow?
