PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
GENERAL DYNAMICS LAND SYSTEMS, Sterling Heights, MI; 2007-Present
Manager, Reliability Engineering & Six Sigma Department
Directed 3 supervisors, 20 engineers and the overall implementation of reliabil
ity principles and Six Sigma Projects for the M1E1 Abrams (Abrams Expeditionary
Design), a complete revamping and redesign of the existing M1A2 Abrams Tank, and
a vehicle of the future for the year 2015.
Ensured the principles of Design for Reliability (DFR) were implemented in the
early design phases of key technical areas, such as vehicle communications, Ethe
rnet, electrical system architecture, Nuclear/Biological/Chemical (NBC) warfare
system, survivability, engine power, transmission power train, fire control and
ammunition, and upgrades to on-board computers.
Built Design for Reliability & Manufacturability (DRM) methods used/measured fo
r the key design strategy.
Mentored and trained subordinates in DFR/DRM principles and metrics, including
reliability scope of work, reliability assessment, block diagrams/allocations,
reliability target (Prediction of "R" and a set MTBF), parameter diagram, Design
Failure Modes/Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design-Development Prove Out (DDPO), an
d Design Validation Plan & Report (DVPR).
Measured Six Sigma Projects in terms of cost effectiveness and cost savings.
Reliability and Maintainability Engineer
Performed in a Reliability/Maintainability (RMA) role on the Abrams Tank Evolut
ionary design (Year 2015), Future Combat Systems, and Stryker programs.
Employed Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM); Field Failure Event/Malfunctio
n Reporting Systems (FFE/MRS); and Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective A
ction System (FRACAS) for reliability and logistics field support on the Abrams
Tank Evolutionary Design.
Implemented a Design For Reliability (DFR) strategy into early design stages of
product development, achieving program cost savings of 20%.
Delivered PowerPoint presentations, presenting reliability recommendations on h
igh failure, risk items and required design changes to design review teams.
Performed reliability predictions (MIL-HDBK-217E) and used RELEX to model subsy
stem reliability.
Coordinated and drafted DFMEA (Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis), determin
ing the highest risk failure modes and proposing corrective actions.
Implemented a Reliability and Maintainability Strategy, delivering plan phases,
assessments, block diagrams, and calculations of component (MTBF) and subsystem
s prediction rates/cumulative reliability.
Demonstrated the Operational Mission Reliability & Maintainability Profile coul
d be achieved with a given design; recommended reliability improvements within b
udget and computed product lifecycle costs.
GOODRICH PUMP & ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEMS, West Hartford, CT; 2006-2007
Mechanical Reliability/Safety Engineer
Performed FMECA, reliability predictions, system safety/functional hazard asses
sments, and fault tree analysis on hydro-mechanical products for fuel handling o
f gas turbine engine for helicopters, small engine aircraft, and for aircraft en
gine controls for Pratt-Whitney Canada.
Completed reliability initiatives, performing failure rate calculations from th
e MIL-HDBK-217E, Reliability Growth (MIL-HDBK-189), Failure Mode Analysis, and F
ailure Modes Effects Determination.
