1. Explain the difference between Muslims and Arabs?

Muslims follow the Monotheistic belief that there is only one God. Their religion is
Islam. They believe in Judaism and Christianity. They worship Allah and the Qu’ran
is their bible. The word from God revealed to the prophet Muhammad and worship
wisdom and morality. Arabs are a group of multiracial heterogeneous individuals.
They are cultural and linguistic. They are also are from the Middle East.

2. According to research and news reports within the past 2 years, what are
some of the changes the United States has made to policies concerning the
treatment of Muslim and Arabic members of society?

The CIA Director George Tenet said, the global Islamic movement was a national
security threat. According to what I have read it is not good because police
torture and murder detained Muslims. In 2015 political Islam will be forming and
the Islamists could have power in the states. Since Muslims get so angry a policy
will be developed for the Islamic world that will reduce the aggregate level of
tension. So to me I think that after the 911 attack on the US by the group the US
made a tougher policy and that was to screen the majority of Muslims and Arabs
coming to the states from a foreign country. Not saying all of them are bad, but
to protect the Americans after all that has happened. I think there could be a
better treatment of the groups because like I stated everyone is not out to get
the Americans.

3. List two to three characteristics of Orientalism. How may Orientalism and

prejudice contribute to hate crimes against these groups?

One of the characteristics is that it is outdated and people look at Arabs and
Muslims without taking into consideration the changes that have occurred over
the years. Also how they live on a daily basis. Orientalism is a blanket covering
concept that does not look at the cultures differently within the two groups. It
contributes to hate crimes because the ignorance that is being held and the
concepts and the people that believe in this so not want to learn anything new.

4. What may individuals do to promote tolerance and reduce prejudice in their

towns and cities?

I think a great way to promote tolerance and reduce prejudice in my town is to

have a city wide meeting. Have a fair with booths that contains information
about prejudice and how to avoid it and not to take part in it. Have interesting
information and fun at the same time. All races joined together as equals and
that is a good start on prejudice views and tolerance. I would like to have a city
wide prayer. Also it may be scary, but put together a black man and a white man
who has always hated black and just let him voice the reasons why. That may be
a long shot and not a good idea. I had a coworker who stated to me she was
raised racist and we talked about it like to calm adults. Sorry I jumped off of the
question.
