What is Formula Student?
Formula student is an international engineering
design and business competition open to all uni-
versity students regardless of course and previ-
ous experience. Universities will design, build
and race a Formula style car from scratch, devel-
oping design, manufacturing and business skills
which support their course. The teams also
quickly learn how to network and get the chance
to work with other firms around the country.
There is also a strong business element to the
competition, with team members required to
source their own sponsorship as well as provid-
ing a cost report on the car and a detailed busi-
ness plan and presentation for a fictional car
manufacturer. Teams from over 30 different
countries compete 5 continents each trying to
top the world ranking. Full Blue Racing will typi-
cally compete in the UK and German competi-
tions, each running over 5 days, against ~90
other universities.

What can I do on the team?
The team members require no prior knowledge for
working on any part of the programme, with the
team’s emphasis firmly on learning new skills.
Team members are free to choose any of the engi-
neering areas; Powertrain, Vehicle Dynamics, Elec-
trical, Simulations or they can choose to be part of
the Business team. The time commitment is fairly
flexible, some members taking on many jobs and
