 PREFACE

Project presentation has helped us improve our communication and

presentation skills. “Mumbai” topic may although seem to be
common one, but we have tried to show the underbelly of Mumbai.

It is a well known fact that what is under our nose is easily overseen.
Mumbai – like any other city in the world has its own unique features,
culture, and lifestyle. It makes an important social and economic
contribution not just to Maharashtra or India – but also to the world as
a whole.

The enormous variety in culture and lifestyle is awe-inspiring and is

evident in the project. As citizens of Mumbai; we have certain
responsibilities towards it and the project points out a systematic path
towards it and the project points out a systematic path towards
development of Mumbai and conservation of its resources.

There are many points which we my not touched upon due to various
constraints. But we do hope that our readers would have an enriching
experience as we had while doing the project.

Any accomplishment requires the efforts of many people and this
work is no different. Grateful acknowledgement is made to our
teacher, Mrs. Shirley Mathew for her valuable guidance and

 SUMMARY

Mumbai is not just a metropolitan of India; it is a city of dreams

for many, a city that never sleeps and yet, not fully awake to its
cause.

The project includes the geological, economical and social

aspects of the city. The demographic data is quite an eye-opener of
the actual state of the city. Mumbai has excellent infrastructure,
which is a result of years of development.

The project serves as a face-off for the glamour world of

Mumbai. The city is also the hub of several criminal activities and
also of corruption, since it is the political capital of Maharashtra. The
readers of the project are made aware of the crime scene in Mumbai.

As Mumbaiite dream of converting Mumbai into shanghai, the

project takes a detail look into the city’s development and the hurdles
facing it. However, this is only a fraction of what Mumbai is all about.
The culture and heritage could only be depicted in brief and the
scope of development schemes is also limited.

Despite all this, we salute the city of Mumbai and its colourful
life. We thank the system for allowing us to work on this project.
