Faith That Goes Beyond the
May 16, 2011 Limitations of Appearance
A nd Thomas answered and said
unto him, My Lord and my God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas,
because thou hast seen me, thou hast be-
lieved: blessed are they that have not seen,
and yet have believed. (John 20:28-29 KJVR)
In this particular portion of scripture Jesus is
speaking to Thomas, one of the twelve disci-
ples. Thomas after receiving the report of eleven
of his closes friends that Jesus had been resur-
rected said, “Except I shall see in his hands the
print of the nails, and put my finger into the
print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his

side, I will not believe.”
For many in the body of Christ this is the area

in which their faith dwells; unless I can see it I
want believe it. However, when Thomas sees
Jesus he is taught a timeless lesson that should
bring much clarity to all of us as it relates to our
faith.
When Thomas sees Jesus he speaks forth a great
truth by calling him, “My Lord and My God”.

Without going to deep into the theological rami-
fications of his statement, Thomas has now re-
ceived the full understanding of the Oneness,
that Jesus was truly the Emmanuel, God with
us, God manifested in flesh, & not a second
person of a trinity. The importance of this was
echoed by Jesus himself all through out scrip-
ture. Jesus claimed to be God, not a second per-
son of a triune deity.
John 14:8-9 MSG Philip said, "Master, show
us the Father; then we'll be content." (9)
"You've been with me all this time, Philip,
and you still don't understand? To see me is
to see the Father. So how can you ask, 'Where
is the Father?'
When Jesus hears Thomas declaration of truth
he says, “... Thomas, because thou hast seen
me, thou hast believed:…” One commentary
says that these were words of measured com-
mendation, but of indirect and doubtless pain-
fully - felt rebuke. Why would Jesus be dis-
pleased with Thomas acknowledgment of Him
being God manifested in flesh, his Lord and His
God?
Jesus was upset because Thomas new belief
was solely based on the evidence of his
senses. Mind you,
• Thomas had walked with Christ, seeing
him heal the sick and raise the dead.
• Thomas was on the boat in the storm
when Jesus came walking on the water.
• Thomas was one of the Maître d’s that
assisted in feeding the five thousand
with two fish and five loaves of bread.
• Thomas was there at the tomb of Lazarus
when Jesus called him that was DEAD
four days; and he came forth bound in
grave clothes. He may have even been
one of the ones that Jesus gave the com-
mand loose him and let him go.
Yet when the eleven men that walked with
Thomas, eat with Thomas, slept where Tho-
mas slept, saw what Thomas saw came and
told Thomas that Jesus has resurrected Just
like he said he would, what does Thomas’
do? He gets real deep and spiritual like many
in the church; “Except I shall see ... I will not
believe.”.
John 20:29 MSG Jesus said, "So, you be-
lieve because you've seen with your own
eyes. Even better blessings are in store for
those who believe without seeing."
What a great and precious promise to us!!
Jesus says that there is a far better blessing
coming to those that can believe on him as
the scripture has said and have not seen a
thing!
In the area of true biblical faith that produces
results, it will not be based on anything that
your five senses can perceive.
2 Corinthians 5:7 KJVR (For we walk by
faith, not by sight:)
One translations says it this way, “It's what
we trust in but don't yet see that keeps us
going”. If your going to truly be affective in
this walk with Christ it will not be about
what you can see. There will be times in your walk were by all
appearance God is not on the scene and you will feel like your all
alone. The thing you have to remember is your faith is not based
on a feeling, or what you can see. We have to allow our faith to
become our sight. In spite of what it looks like, in spite of what it
feels like you have to have it made up in your mind I am going to
trust what God has already said over what my circumstances are
showing me.
Always remember Satan is the father of lies and a master of illu-
sion. When you are going through difficulties you have two ene-
mies that you face. Those two enemies are Satan the accuser of
the brothering and your own carnal belief system. 90% of the
time what your going through is never as bad as it appears in the
natural. We have to guard our perception of the situation so that
we don’t project, in word thought and deed, more negativity into
an already bad situation.
Speaking
Secondly this verse deals with what we are speaking. Faith &
what you believe comes as a result of what you hearing. It is very
important that we understand this principle so that we see that
all doubt must be dealt with on a thought level so that it is never
verbalized.
What you speak is impotent if it is not spoken in perfect harmony
with what you believe.
Isaiah 55:11 MSG So will the words that come out of my
mouth not come back empty-handed. They'll do the work I
sent them to do, they'll complete the assignment I gave them.
This is a very important verse. We have to understand that God
has placed his word in our mouth and we become the mouth
pieces of God in the earth.

Thinking Then believe that which you are speaking and doing is not going
to return void!
First, the verse deals with our thinking. In our thinking we can

Your thoughts have to be directed toward and willing to hold to

and waver not from the good/God you are looking to show up in
your life.
