INVESTING FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES

Annual Report 2010

Welcome to Congo!
THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (DRC) is an ancient land, with a history of ethnically
diverse people, strong kingdoms, and the indigenous use of its abundant natural resources. The
past 125 years are a short period in that history, but a destructive one. First colonial “ownership,”
then rule by dictators, and finally civil war with locally continuing violence have devastated the
country. Six million dead in 12 years. Infrastructure in ruins. And people living in deep poverty.

A Word from the
Executive Director...
ON BEHALF OF OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS in the Democratic Republic of Congo, thank
you for your interest in the Paul Carlson Partnership.

“He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice,
and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). It is truly a privilege to work
together with our sisters and brothers in Congo. The Democratic Republic of Congo is an often
overlooked place of great need, filled with people who, in spite of that, have a great and generous
spirit. We assist people in Équateur province with medical care, economic development, and
leadership development.

As we help farmers in Congo reap the benefits of their natural resources and rebuild their
communities’ economic self-sustainability, and as we empower women to raise their voices and
be heard, we are pursuing justice. As we support hospitals and clinics, enabling children and their
parents to receive care when they are in need, we are extending mercy. And as we walk together
with these people of such poor circumstance and such rich faith, we begin to understand why it is
that God walks with the poor, in love. And we know that we receive far more than we give.

In this report you will learn some of the things we did together during 2010, along with some of
our goals for 2011. You will find financial reports here, as well as information about Congo and its
people. On the back you will see our web and email addresses, so you can learn more and contact
us.

From all of us, thank you.
