Present Simple Present Continuous

Facts which are always true:
Water boils at 100 degrees.
Fatti sempre veri:
L’acqua bolle a 100 gradi.
Permanent situations (or nearly
permanent; true for a few years at least):
Julie lives in London.
Situazioni permanenti (o quasi tali, vere
per un periodo esteso di tempo):
Julie vive a Londra.
Actions which are happening at the
moment of speaking:
The water is boiling now, so you
can put in the pasta.
Azioni che si stanno verificando nel
momento in cui stiamo parlando.
L’acqua sta bollendo, ora, quindi puoi
buttare la pasta.
Temporary situations:
Julie is living in Paris for a few
months (usually she lives in
London).
Situazioni temporanee:

Habits or actions we do regularly: Situations which are slowly changing:

I drink coffee every morning.

Il Present Continuous, inoltre, ha anche un ulteriore uso, meno frequente nello scritto
ma usato nel parlato: esprime Annoying habits (usually with 'always'), ossia abitudini
irritanti (di solito con sempre, nella frase).
My flatmate is always leaving the kitchen in a mess!

Il mio coinquilino lascia/sta sempre a lasciare la cucina nel caos.
