Subject Information, Communication and Technology (ICT)

Standards at end of Summer 2011

Using the Self-review framework (SRF) which provides a structure for reviewing the
school’s use of ICT and its impact on school improvement, it evince that across
the school progress is being made with most children achieving the average
grade for their age group. There are four aspects of attainment in ICT at key
stages 1 and 2:
1. finding things out
2. developing ideas and making things happen
3. exchanging and sharing information
4. reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses.
The majority of pupils are expected to work at:
• levels 1-3 in key stage 1 and attain level 2 at the end of the key stage
• levels 2-5 in key stage 2 and attain level 4 at the end of the key stage.

KS1 – Year 1 pupils are working at level 1, which is characterised by the use of ICT
to explore options and make choices to communicate meaning. Pupils
develop familiarity with simple ICT tools. As part of a topic, “Living things”, pupils
looked at information on plants and animals. They used books, magazines,
photographs and interactive whiteboard. They talked about where different
animals are found. During their ICT lesson, they used 2Simple software to “paint”
a plant (some painted a flower, some a tree or the beanstalk from “Jack and the
beanstalk” story. They made a class display and talked about the similarities and
differences between print-outs, photographs and drawings.

KS2 – Year 5 pupils are working at level 3, is characterised by the use of ICT to
develop ideas and solve problems. Pupils learnt to work on power point and
publisher, and they been introduced to spreadsheet. They learnt to navigate and
search a basic database. As part of their “Graphic Modelling” topic, pupils
designed their own classroom.
