Popular Spare Parts for ML10, Speed 10 and Diamond

10 Lathes
History
The ML10 lathe was launched in 1968 as an inexpensive but very serious machine tool. Its market place
was to be just above that occupied by a number of popular small lathes, which were suitable for modelling
and model engineering on a very miniature scale. The all important feature which put the ML10 well ahead of
its competitors was its capability. If you could physically fit a piece of material between centres, instead of
looking at it, you could actually machine it.

The first ML10 lathe left the production line on 14 October 1968, and featured a hardened steel spindle
which ran directly in the cast iron bore of the split headstock bearing.

The first major change came on 18 January 1978, when the headstock was converted to taper roller
bearings from machine No. V137261.

On 4 May 1979, the first Speed 10 lathe, featuring a two-speed countershaft, was launched from machine
No. VS143202M. This was followed a month later on 6 June 1979, by the first long bed machine No.
VSL144264.

The diameter of the threaded RH end of the leadscrew was increased from 5/16’’ BSF to ⅜’’ BSF. All
imperial machines from No. V144354 and all metric machines from No. V144464 had the new screw.

On 11 September 1985 at serial No. 159991, the lathe was fitted with two new raising blocks and a new
countershaft arm. The left hand raising block was extended rearwards to carry the new countershaft arm.
This meant for the first time that the lathe left the factory as a complete machine and no longer needed any
assembly.

From lathe No. V167714M on 25 March 1992, a long cross slide was fitted as standard on all machines.

The Diamond 10 was launched on 27 November 1993. This was the first time that Myford had offered a lathe
direct to the public. The ML10 and Speed 10 lathes were discontinued.

Please Note: When ordering, please state the Serial Number and Prefix Letter of your lathe. This can be
found on the front of the lathe bed at the tailstock end of the machine.

Therefore, we suggest you replace the ball handle assembly with A9846 Ball Handle Assembly and the
locknut with A7256/2 Nut.

Notes:

1. This conversion is only suitable for ML10 lathes fitted with taper roller bearings
in the headstock.
2. We normally recommend ½hp motors on single phase Speed 10 lathes. If your
ML10 is fitted with a 1/3hp motor, you may on occasions, experience a lack of
performance on the highest speed.
3. This conversion set assumes that lathes are already fitted with the current type
raising blocks underneath the bed. If your lathe does not have raising blocks,
please order the following additional items
Price Excl Price Incl
Part Number Description VAT VAT
A7202 Raising Block (1 off) £20.43 £24.01
11865 Left Hand Raising Block and Pivot Bracket (1 off) £78.69 £92.46
100039 Hex. Head Set Screw (4 off) £1.17 £1.37
100005 Washer (4 off) £0.06 £0.07

4. If your lathe is fitted with the old type raising block, i.e. the left hand raising
block does not extend behind the headstock and does not incorporate the cast
lugs on which the countershaft arm is mounted, then pleases add the following
items to your order.
