Glossary

Although there are countless manufacturers of BIOS, the truth is that we limit ourselves to three
cases, which are what most of us find our plates mounted on base: Award, AMI and Phoenix.

Most of these entries are structured BIOS the same way:

A

APM BIOS Select Enabled to enable energy saving settings in the BIOS.

Audio I/O Base Select the address input / output for audio port, where the
Address integrated motherboard sound card.

The BIOS detects the type of DIMMs and PCI device type and
Auto Detect
set the bus to the maximum frequency allowed by them.
DIMM/PCI Clock
DISABLED for over clocking enthusiasts.

Auto Suspend
After a selected period of inactivity, the computer
Timeout
automatically enters Suspend mode.

After the selected period of inactivity for each subsystem

BIOS PM Timers (video, hard drive, peripherals), the subsystem enters
Standby mode.

The original IBM PCs loaded the DOS operating system from
drive A (floppy disk), therefore compatible systems are
designed to find an operating system first on drive A, and then
Boot Sequence
on drive C (hard drive). However, modern PCs loaded the
operating system from the hard drive, and even a CD-ROM
drive from a ZIP drive, an LS-120 or SCSI disk.
When Enabled, the BIOS looks for and tests the floppy drive to
Boot Up Floppy Seek determine if they have 40 or 80 tracks. 360K disks only have
40 tracks. We recommend setting this field to Disabled.

Select High to boot at the default speed of the processor,

Boot Up System select LOW to start the AT bus speed. Some peripherals or old
Speed games may require a lower speed processor. The default
should be HIGH.

Burst Write When Enabled, the chipset sends large bursts of data from the
Combining buffers.

PIPELINING allows the system controller to signal the

CPU Addr. Pipelining processor to a new memory address before all data
transfers for the current cycle are complete, resulting in
higher data transfer.

CPU Fan on Temp When the processor reaches the set temperature heat sink fan
High starts.

The BIOS determines the day of the week from the date

information (for information).

When Enabled, the velocity values (timings) of memory are

DRAM Auto chosen according to the values preset by the manufacturer
Configuration according to the type of memory. When Disabled, you can set
the values manually in the fields below.

E
External Cache Cache memory is additional memory that is much faster than
conventional RAM. Most but not all modern computers have
external cache memory. When the processor requests data,
the system transfers data from RAM to cache memory for
faster access from the processor.

When Enabled, any floppy drive activity cancels the power

FDD Detection
saving mode and resets the inactivity timer.

The chipset maintains its own internal buffer for writing to the
memory of the graphics card. When this buffer is Enabled,
Graphic Posted Write
writes from the processor will buffer so the CPU can start
Buff
another write cycle before the end of its cycle graphics
memory.

Cuando está ENABLED, cualquier actividad del disco

HDD Detection duro anula el modo de ahorro de energía o pone a cero el
temporizador de inactividad.

Cuando está DISABLED, la actividad del teclado no

Keyboard Resume
hace despertar el equipo del modo ahorro.
O

Select Enabled to use the audio capabilities of the

motherboard.

Onboard FDC Select Enabled if your system has a floppy disk controller
Controller on the motherboard and want to use. If the team does not
want to use a floppy or external drive, select Disabled.
