Join us on our latest Blue Star Card hike to Manoa Falls, Tuesday,
May 10. Tucked in the back of the lush Manoa Valet is this
waterfall, which is commonly thought to be one of the most
beautiful sights in Oahu. Free transportation will be leaving from
the Schofield Barracks Bowling Center parking lot at 8:30 am
and returning around 1 pm. The trail is not stroller accessible.
Make sure to pack sunscreen and plenty of water! You definitely
don’t want to miss this hike! You will earn double punches on your
SUPERSTAR card!
Super Saturday Childcare, May 14 – Petersen CDC &
Schofield School Age Center
Super Saturday will be held on May 14, from 9 am – 2 pm at
Petersen CDC and Schofield Barracks School Age Center. To
participate in Super Saturday Childcare, patrons must be Blue Star
Card holders. Reservations may be made as early as 30 days prior
to the event. For more information on Super Saturday or to make a
reservation, call the Schofield Barracks CYS Services Registration
Office at 655-5314 or the AMR Registration Office at 833-5393.
Treat yourself to a night out on Friday, May 27, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm
at the Honolulu Academy of the Arts’ ARTafterDark. This monthly
art party is organized by a dynamic group of young volunteers
dedicated to exploring the arts. May’s theme is ‘Marrakech
Express’ and will feature festive activities and entertainment. Blue
Star Card holders will receive free admission and priority entrance.
Transportation from Schofield and childcare is available, but space
is limited. This is an adult only event and registration is required.

Star Recipe of the Month:
Parent’s Night Out will be held May 7 (AMR CDC and AMR Youth Center), and May 28 (Schofield
CDC and Schofield School Age Center). For more information on Parent’s Night Out or to make a

Health and Fitness Center Kids on Site Information:

The Kids on Site care for the Health and Fitness center will remain free for valid Blue Star Card holders,
Mon.-Fri., 8-11 a.m., at Kaala Community Activities Center, Bldg. 556. Registration is required. For

INGREDIENTS
CUPCAKES:
• 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• 4 ½ teaspoons baking powder
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup milk
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
• ¾ cup sugar
• 2 large eggs
FROSTING:
• ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature

• ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 drops red food coloring
CROWNS:

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line the cups of a standard
12-cup_ muffin tin with paper of foil liners. In a small bowl,
whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside. In a
liquid-measuring cup, mix milk and vanilla; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, with and electronic mixer, beat butter and
sugar until light and fluffy, 3 to 4 minutes. Add eggs one at a
time, beating well after each addition. With mixer on low
speed, add half dry ingredients, followed by milk-vanilla
mixture, then remaining dry ingredients. Do not over mix.
3. Divide batter evenly among prepared muffin cups (a 2-ounce or
¼ cup ice cream scoop is good for this).
4. Place tin on a rimmed baking sheet, bake until a toothpick
inserted in center of a cupcake comes out clean, 20 to 25
minutes. Cool cupcakes 5 minutes in tin, then remove and cool
completely on a rack before frosting.
5. Prepare frosting: in a medium bowl, with an electric mixer,
beat unsalted butter, confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla
extract and food coloring until smooth. Mix in up to ½ cup
more sugar or a few more teaspoons of milk as necessary to
achieve a spreadable consistency.
6. To make the crown, place a wrapped mini yellow Laffy Taffy
in a cup of warm water for 2 to 3 minutes to soften it. Unwrap
it, then flatten it with a rolling pin until its 1-1/4 by 3-3/4
inches. Use a knife to straighten the strip’s edges.
7. With the tip of a teaspoon, cut five arches along on edge, as
shown. Join the ends to form a crown and seal the seam with
a few drops of water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to harden
