Grammar and Punctuation: Direct and indirect speech - Tense agreement - Persons
- Punctuation - Imperative form.
Students will understand the difference between direct and reported speech by
finding and comparing examples from reading and transforming direct into
reported speech and vice versa, noting changes in punctuation and words. They
will continue to consider verb and subject agreement in sentences, with focus on

Students will explore spelling patterns of consonants and words which have
common letter strings but different pronunciation. They will distinguish between
the spelling and meanings of homophones. Students will learn the correct use and
spelling of possessive pronouns. They will collect, invent, and use words whose
meaning is represented in their sounds
Students will identify the features of myths, legends and fables. They will
distinguish between the author and the narrator, and investigate the treatment of
different characters. They will understand the difference between literal and
figurative language. They will learn to take notes for different purposes and to
build on these notes in their own writing or speaking. Students will make notes of a
story outline and discuss what is meant by "in your own words."

languages and how this might give clues to spelling. They will understand how
words can be formed from longer words through the omission of letters, prefixes,
or the use of acronyms. Students will use dictionaries to explore spellings,

how clauses are connected. They will use connectives to link clauses and sentences
