The Sanctuary Lamp will burn this week In Thanksgiving for the Beatification of Pope John Paul II

Beatification of Pope John Paul II : In the Jubilee year of 2000, Pope John Paul II designated this 2nd Sunday
of Easter as ‘Divine Mercy Sunday’ recalling the revelations to St Faustina in the 1930’s that ‘the depths of the
Lord’s mercy for all be made known throughout the world’. It is fitting therefore, that Pope Benedict has chosen
this Sunday to preside at the Beatification of Pope John Paul II, who will from now on be called ‘Blessed’ and
we give thanks to God for the graces received by many during his long life and ministry among us.
Welcome We welcome into God’s family Holly Dawn Birchall who will be baptised after Mass on Sunday.
“The Christian Community welcomes you with great joy.”
‘Let us pray the Mass’ is a series of newsletters prepared by Fr John McLoughlin for use across the Diocese
to help us to prepare for the introduction in October 2011 of the new translation of the Roman Missal which
we use at Mass. As a result, some of the prayers and phrases we are used to hearing will change. This series
helps us to understand better why we do what we do during our celebration of Mass and why some things are
changing. Please take a copy each week to build up the series and use them as an important means of educating
ourselves in the faith.
Holy Hour : our regular hour of devotion before the Blessed Sacrament will start again on Friday from 7 - 8pm
and, being the first Friday of the month, will be a time of prayer for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious
Life. I encourage you all to set aside this short period of time to be with the Lord at the end of a busy week.
“Red, White and Blue Social” : If, after the events of last Friday, you are feeling sufficiently patriotic, we
celebrate on Monday of this week the feast of St George and on Friday 6 May have our ‘Red, White and Blue
Social’ in the Parish Centre starting at 8pm. Tickets (£3) are available after Mass.
Sponsored Walk : to raise funds for their Lourdes Pilgrimage, the young people of Coach 7, including Rosie
Whalley, are taking part in an 18 mile Sponsored Walk from Crosby to Southport on Monday 2 May. If you
would like to sponsor their efforts, please add your name to the list in the porch.
First Holy Communion : The next meeting for parents and children making their First Holy Communion takes
place on Wednesday 4 May at 6pm in Our Lady’s School.
Thanks to all who helped plan and organise the Car Boot Sale on Saturday morning. The amount raised will be
included in next week’s newsletter.
Last week’s collection ; Gift Aid : £342.30 Loose Plate : £324.56 Total : £666.86. Many thanks.
Question of the Week : We live our faith when we show courage in the face of difficulty. What can you do this
week to encourage someone who is sad or discouraged?
Your Parish Priest: Fr. John Gorman
