Golden Gel Mediums & Molding Pastes offer artists many ways to build
texture. They range in consistency from pourable to mouldable with
varying degrees of sheen and transparency.
Use them to create glazes, extend paints, build texture, and change
finishes. Many are excellent glues for collage work.
Even though acrylic colors are offered in various different consistencies
and finishes, the use of gels and molding pastes in conjunction with such colors will broaden the working properties and
expand on the possible results.
Gels can be thought of as colorless paints, as they are composed of similar polymers as are the acrylic paints. They may be
considered the "glue" or binder that dry to form continuous, durable films. They are made of 100% acrylic polymers, which
have proven to have excellent flexibility and chemical, water and ultraviolet radiation resistance.
Pastes contain Marble Dust or Diatomatious Earth, clays or other fillers resulting in a white or clay-tone finish. Different
pastes have been formulated to contain specific properties. See each description for further information.
Self-Leveling Clear Gel
Designed to produce an even film with excellent clarity. This gel has a resinous consistency and offers excellent levelling.
This product dries to a flexible, high gloss film, which can increase transparency and sheen while imparting a levelling
quality to other Golden Acrylic products. Blends with Golden Acrylic colours to produce glazes without brush-strokes.
Soft Gel (Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte)
Thinner than Golden Heavy Body Acrylic colours, Soft Gels are moderately pourable and hold only slight peaks.
Soft Gel Gloss is ideal for glazing and other techniques where transparency is desired. Also, the recommended acrylic to
function as a glue for collaging. Useful as a non-removable isolation coat, applied over the painting before the varnish
layer (must be thinned with water - 2 parts Soft Gel Gloss to 1 parts water).
Fine Pumice Gel Coarse Pumice Gel Extra Coarse Pumice Gel
Clear Granular Gel
Made from clear acrylic granular solids it is excellent for making translucent, textural glazes.
Will not alter the colour of acrylic paints when blended together.
Glass Bead Gel
Made from genuine glass beads for unique visual effect - like that of condensation on cold glass..
Will not alter the colour of acrylic paints when blended together.
Clear Tar Gel
designed to yield a stringy, tar-like feel. Excellent for dripping, drizzling effects that no other product can produce.
Clear Tar Gel can be used to increase transparency and sheen while imparting a levelling quality to other acrylic products.
Fibre Paste
Paste that has the appeaance of rough handmade paper. When dry, surface is very absorbant and ideal for acrylic washes.
Crackle Paste
A thick, opaque cracking medium developing deep fissure-like cracks. Dries to create an absorbant surface.

.
of 25%. Any mixture within this range offers little risk of cracking or other adverse effects.
Flexibility
Generally, canvas coated with Golden Gesso may be rolled up without cracking.
.
Cracking may occur if a canvas is overly flexed or stretched.
Sanding
Sanding Golden Gesso is possible; however, due to the flexible acrylic emulsion, the sandpaper will "gum" up rather
quickly from the heat generated by sanding. For optimal sanding, use Golden Sandable Hard Gesso (This product should
.
only be used on rigid supports since it tends to crack when flexed).
Use with Oil Paints
Oil Paints can be applied over acrylic gesso. There is adequate adhesion due to the porosity of the acrylic. To control the
penetration of linseed oil into support fibres, a two coat-application of GAC 100 is recommended before applying Gesso.
Sandable Hard Gesso
Formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsion with high levels of titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate and talc to
produce an easily sanded, smooth and even surface.
Note: This product is designed for rigid substrates only and is NOT to be used on flexible materials, as cracking may occur.
Absorbant Ground
Golden Absorbent Ground is an acrylic liquid surfacing medium that can be used to create a porous, paper-like surface on
many different substrates. It is uniquely formulated for unsurpassed absorbent action when dry.
Absorbent Ground allows for watercolour application and raw canvas-like staining on a protected substrate.
Golden Absorbent Ground is not intended as a gesso alternative. It must be applied over a pre-primed surface due to its
fragile, paper-like nature. Once properly sealed, it is a permanent acrylic film that does not need to be kept under glass.
Acrylic Ground for Pastels
Golden Acrylic Ground for Pastels is a 100% acrylic medium designed to prepare surfaces for the application of pastels,
charcoal and other art media where a coarse tooth is desired. It contains finely ground silica in a pure acrylic emulsion.
Can be applied to paper, canvas, wood or any primed support.
GAC-100
Acrylic polymer emulsion useful for diluting and extending colours. Wets out solids
more readily than other polymers and is useful for creating homemade paints. The
best Support Induced Discoloration-blocker GOLDEN makes.
GAC-200
Acrylic polymer emulsion that is the hardest and least flexible of Golden acrylics.
Useful for increasing film hardness and reducing tack. Increases adhesion to non-
porous surfaces, such as glass. Great for increasing durability of Golden Acrylic Paints for mural use.
GAC-400
Acrylic polymer emulsion which dries to a hard, stiff film. If laundering stability is essential, the polymer can be heat-set.
GAC-500
Acrylic polymer emulsion with levelling ability, that forms a hard, glossy film. Useful for increasing film hardness and
reducing tack, while maintaining flexibility. The hardest polymer that is suitable for flexible supports.
GAC-700
Acrylic polymer emulsion that offers excellent film clarity and gloss. Excellent for sealing various supports to protect
against Support Induced Discoloration. Offers reduced shrinkage.
GAC-800
Acrylic polymer emulsion that does not craze in pours/puddles. That is to say that it dries with the same uniform surface
and dimensional integrity as when wet. Useful to increase adhesion to chalky surfaces.
GAC-900
Acrylic polymer emulsion which can be blended with various acrylic colours and when heat-set offers a very soft hand and
laundering stability.
