9. Solve any two numerical problems. [2x4=8]

a. In a copper plating experiment, 6.35g of copper is deposited in one and half hours. An ammeter
connected in series records a current of 3.5A. Calculate the error in ammeter reading.
(Given, F= 96500c/mol and gram atomic mass of copper= 63.5g.)

b. A circuit consists of a capacitor of 10µf and resistor of 1000Ω. An alternating emf of 12v (r.m.s.) and
frequency 50Hz is applied. Calculate the current flowing and voltage across the capacitor.

c. The armature of small generator consists of a flat, square coil with 120 turns and sides with length
of 1.6cm. The coil rotates in a magnetic field of 0.075T. What is the angular speed of the coil if the
maximum emf produced is 24.0mv?
10. Solve any two numerical problems [2x4=8]
a. Energy released per fission of uranium is 200 Mev. Calculate the total energy produced during the
process when 1gm uranium undergoes fission.

b. An X-rays tube works at a d.c. potential difference of 50kv. Only 0.4% of the energy of the cathode
rays is converted into X-radiation and heat is generated in the target at the rate of 600watt.
Estimate:
i. The current passed into the tube.
ii. The velocity of the electrons striking the target.

c. An electron beam after being accelerated from rest through a p.d. of 5000volt in a vacuum is
allowed to impinge normally on a fixed surface. If the incident current is 50 µA, determine the force
exerted on the surface assuming that it brings the electron to rest.

11. A train approaching a tunnel in a cliff faces at 30m/s is sounding a whistle of frequency of 1000Hz.
What will be the apparent frequencies of the echoes from the cliff face heard by the driver:
a. When train is approaching it?
b. When it is emerging from the tunnel (velocity of sound in air= 330m/s)? [4]

12. Two slits are 0.3mm apart and placed 50cm from a screen. What is the distance between the second
