Vida Enterprise Group (VEG)

On Wednesday 9th March the first VEGie meeting took place . Some great
suggestion came out of the meeting. One was to hold a regular raffle and
another was to have life style, health and well being home parties such as Avon
or Pampered chef. On that same afternoon we had a Pamper Chef event which
raised funds for the centre. As a result of the Pampered Chef demo we realized
that we could earn even more money for our centre. A starter Pampered Chef
Consultant kit was purchased and donated to the centre,. We now need our
consultants. We also discussed having a directory of skills that for a small fee,
the public could buy services i.e. clothes alterations, cake making, party favour
making curtains or cushions making.
Every week in the Brixton area there are table top sales or local markets. Our
member like making cards, soft furnishing pickles and sauce. We could have a
market team that could sell these items.
The VEGie group are now looking for a person or people to run
a) The monthly raffle
b) Become a Pampered Chef or other product consultant.
c) Be part of the skills directory
d) Make and sell homemade products at a local market
If you would like to be part of any of the above please come to the next VEGie
meetings on 11th May 12.30pm and 8th June 2011 at The Vida Walsh Centre.

Make a good Eyewitness

Do you think you could make a good eyewitness? Are you interested in how the
public help the police with there enquires? The eyewitness group at Royal
Holloway, University of London is conducting research into various legal
psychology topics, such as the eyewitness performance of vulnerable people, such
as children, the elderly, and people with learning disabilities. Furthermore, the
group is interactively engaging with
the police by informing them how to
best deal with vulnerable witnesses.
On 18th May Julie Gawrylowicz
and Gary Dalton would like to come
to the centre to talk to us as a group
about what they do. Julia and Gary
would like to conduct some research
with some of the group at a future
date. For this work a small payment
will be made to participants. If you
are interested please attend the first
meeting on 18th May 2011 at 3pm

May and June begins the gardens' peek growing season when the days are
longer and the heat kicks in. June offers those gardeners late to the party an
ample opportunity to get things started especially if the gardener is interested
in planting for autumn colour

Vegetables growing at Vida’s

We plan to start some warm weather vegetables such as Corn,
We have planted Beans, Peppers, Tomatoes, Squash and Pumpkins
Vegetable seedlings are be thinned this month in order to provide ample room
for growth.
We plan to plant your Broccoli, Cabbage, Brussels sprouts and Cauliflower for
next winter's harvest.
We have been pinching our herbs to keep bushy and fresh with new growth

Gardening Poem
Oh what our Garden at Vida Walsh in
the gold days of May and June?
Basking in the haze of wonderful days,
It is a Brixton haven a secret that is in
tune,
With cars roaring past and traffic
wardens bays.
The passer by look on and we listen,
We hear The Saltoun murmur and we
see our garden glisten.
Every gardener task is a might,
Every Gardener helps build this paradise of elder’s powers
The Wisdom of Windrush Generation is light
Comes from this Diaspora in plants and flowers
