Dear friends
AIMS India Foundation is an organization that seeks to bring about a social transformation in India through the collective efforts of
like-minded people and organizations. Our mission is to bring people together for the lofty purpose of bringing about a positive
transformation, to achieve a vision of an economically self-sufficient and a socially harmonious society.

In this issue, we have covered a few ongoing and recent projects that AIMS has supported.

AIMS India Foundation thanks Mr. Nat Kumar for his generous
donation to purchase 25 milking buffaloes.

Healthcare Equipment for Payir, an NGO in Thennur, Perambalur Dist

AIMS has donated medical equipment (Biochemistry Analyzer, ECG equipment and pulse oxymeter) for Payir’s Community Care
Center to address the first level curative health care needs of Thennur and its surrounding villages covering about 20,000 people.
This serves as a center for first Aid, Primary Health Care and a Referral center.

Nutrition Supplements for 100 children and 20 pregnant women is provided through Payir’s Anemia Intervention Program. The
total cost spent on the above is Rs 2.5 lakhs.

Microlending for Goat rearing: Rural Women Development


Trust, Tharamangalam, Salem Dist.

Micro loans to the tune of Rs. 2 lakhs for 100 goats have been given to 100 rural, poor wom-
en identified by the RWDT TRUST at Tharamangalam, Salem District. These goats help these
women get some income on a daily basis.

Micro lending for Milking Buffaloes: Rural Women Development


Trust, Tharamangalam, Salem Dist
AIMS has provided micro loan to 45 buffaloes for 45 women identified by RWDT TRUST at
Tharamangalam, Salem District. These milking buffaloes help the rural poor women get a
daily income. Income from each buffalo milk sales after all expenses is around Rs.3,000 per
month. The cost of one buffalo is about Rs.15,000. The money repaid is used to provide loans
to additional beneficiaries.
Loans have also been provided to 4 women for operating petty shops in the villages.

Goat rearing project: LAFTI Foundation, Kuthur, Thiruvarur Dist

AIMS has provided micro loans to the tune of Rs 2.4 lakhs to 120 families for goat rearing through the LAFTI Foundation. The repay-
ment is revolved within LAFTI to make additional loans.
AIMS has also donated 10 tailoring machines to LAFTI.

Vocational Training Center – Koodu Trust, Nilgiris Dist

A local NGO named, KOODU SERD TRUST is conducting a vocational training center consist-
ing of a free computer center and free tailoring center in Kolappally village, Nilgiris district
for the tribal community. AIMS supports by paying the teachers and coordinator salaries,
vocational training center's monthly rent, and advance for the building in which the training
center is functioning. Around 100 students are benefiting from this project.

Rahmania Primary School, Kayalpattinam, Thoothukudi Dist


10 pairs of wooden desks and benches, wooden partitions, book shelves and steel cupboards have been provided to this school. The
toilets have also been renovated to provide separate toilets for boys and girls. The total cost of this School face lift is Rs 1.2 lakhs.

Raghavendra Disabled Welfare Trust, Thiruthuraipoondi, Thiruvarur Dist

A building was constructed at a cost of Rs.1.5 lakhs to accommodate and do physical


therapy for 30 physically challenged women and children. This facility is under con-
struction and will be ready in the second quarter of 2011.

Student Development Centers (SDC), Kanyakumari Dist.


We have 10 student development centers in the district of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
These centers act as supplementary education centers in ten rural, coastal villages.
Our trained teachers conduct the evening student development centers from 5 PM to
7 PM on all week days. They assist the students do their home-work, clear their ques-
tions in all subjects. Around 50-60 students are enrolled in each center. These chil-
dren study in different schools and in different standards (1 st to 12th standards).
Around 750 rural children are benefiting each year through this project.

AIMS Govt School Teaching Assistance Project (ASTA) ,


Kanyakumari Dist

This project was started in 2007 to provide assistant teachers to eight Govt elemen-
tary/middle schools in the district of Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. An honorarium is
provided to each teacher. There are 16 teachers in 14 schools currently working in
this project. Around 2,000 Government school rural children are benefiting each year
through this project.

Arachalur Govt Higher Secondary School, Arachalur, Erode Dist


AIMS has approved the purchase of 2 Computers for the 6th – 8th grade students for Rs 46,000 and library books for Rs. 75,000.
Future proposals and requirements:
 There is a requirement from RWDT for loans to fund 10 petty shops, 2 scrap metal recycling units, 30 milking buffaloes and
250 goats for this year. The total cost for this is Rs. 6.5 lakhs ( Approx. $ 14,500)
 Ongoing recurring project payments for ASTA, SDC, Koodu for 1 year (Approx. $ 12,000)
 Request from Arachalur Govt Higher Secondary School, Erode Dist- Additional books for the library estimated at Rs 75000
(Approx. $ 1,700)
 A request for compound wall construction for an elementary School and an Anganwadi, Plumbing for drinking water,
re-flooring classrooms, renovation of urinals and toilets and desks and benches from NGO Payir estimated at Rs. 3.1 lakhs
(Approx. $ 7,000)
